BIOLOGY LESSON TIME carbs are carbohydrates carbohydrates are one of four biomacromolecules (don't need to remember that) in other words, the 4 things which make up ALL OF YOU (ignoring chemical impurities) carbohydrates (Surgars and grains are in this category. All carbohydrates are broken down into the simplest form (glucose) during digestion. Glucose is the main energy source for all cells in the body) Lipids (fats). (there are two types. phospholipids (used as a rain coat to keep parts of cells separate from each other and make good membranes) and triglycerides (long term energy storage - fat)). Can be used as energy too but only once all readily available carbohydrates are gone. Proteins. Meat and milk and soy beans and stuff are broken down into amino acids (the building blocks which make proteins) to then be made into NEW proteins in the body. Everything that is done in a cell (and therefore the body) is the work of a protein. They take energy (in the form of an ATP (don't need to remember that) which is made from glucose) and DO SOMETHING. move a molecule into a cell, stretch or compact (muscles), hold an oxygen for a while (red blood cells). etc. Nucleic acids. They're specially used to make DNA and DNA variants. Bit of a unique topic. ignore them for the most part. When it comes to digestion, fats and carbohydrates are broken down into glucose which is immediate energy for most proteins. Some carbohydrates are SIMPLE, like sugars. Sucrose (standard white sugar) and Fructose (sugar in fruits) is very easy to get at and yields immediate large sources of energy. If it isn't used up immediately, there is too much in the body and so its stored away as long term fat deposits. COMPLEX carbohydrates such as starch (potatoes and bread and most grains) are much larger, and harder to get at the energy inside. It takes a lot of energy TO GET AT the energy inside, and it takes a long time, which means it sits there for a long time slowly releasing energy for a while. THAT IS WHY THEY'RE GOOD TO EAT. I could go into their chemical makeup and structure. but you can also get stupidly technical about a 6 gate. I just simplified it like you did a 6 pool. hoped it helped. =)

I've seen this twice I'm sure by now and I'm back going on a day9 story binge 🤣🤣 I have some personal experience to share. I'm turning 34 in Dec and I want to say that between 2022 and 2024 I had lost almost exactly 50lbs from 177 to now around 127. I'm 5'6 It sounds crazy but I really believe I did it in a healthy way 👀 Eat whatever(and I mean whatever) I wanted and as much as I wanted during waking hours not close to bedtime. Don't overeat for the last meal. Last meal must be 4-5 hours before bedtime. And have an active lifestyle. When I say active, I don't mean must do sports or go to the gym or even exercise. I stand at my desk for no longer than 30 mins and sit for at least 30 minutes and repeat when possible, usually getting in 4-5 hours of standing per day. Go on walks, etc. Stretch before bed. Basically don't be lethargic. Every waking moment is an opportunity to be active. I don't think I could have done this if I wasn't indulging in food that makes me happy "DAILY" Good luck everyone trying to be more fit and healthy!

I feel you on this Day9. I knew almost nothing about health through out my youth. And didn't even catch on till about 20-21. Even now I am still trying new things because of the different health plans out there. I think I am on the right one with what I do with my work outs. I think even now though with what I am doing which is healthy and keeps me full, and helps me build my body, that if someone or school would've told me about these things 10 years ago. It would've save me so much more time. The difference between good carbs and bad carbs, when to eat when not to eat. I hope youth can catch onto this more quickly in the future so they don't have to face problems we had to face.

I 100% agree with tips 1-3. I also think that a big part of staying fit is maintaining the idea that it's all about/for the sake of freedom. I stay in shape so that i have the freedom to go on a hike up a mountain if i want. Or go swimming with friends, biking in a park, or even learn a new sport. To always be ready and able, whenever opportunity presents itself, to participate in something fun and social. But i also do it for the sake of maybe needing it for self defense or preservation. And it's for that reason that i've also studied combat sports and self defense.

Ironically, I also ran 5k races around a lake at 8:00 AM (I live in Las Vegas so we went to Boulder City at Vet.'s Memorial Park for the race; was an invitational we went to 2-3 times each season, my favorite course too.). _____________________________________________________________________ I joined Cross-Country not knowing a single thing on what it was about or how to play or anything other than it was a sport in high school. Well turned out it was running, running, & then some more running, plus a little running on the side. I ended up loving Cross-Country. Most people never will. I never ate/eat what a runner is suppose to eat, never have, never will, yet I still did/do well. That "Runner's Diet" is something both my coaches always tried to instill in me, but I never followed it. I never used, still never do, & probably never will use that diet. I did, do, & probably will do fine while running without using it. _____________________________________________________________________ I love running. I run for fun. I run for no reason. I run cuz I'm bored. I'm probably a true runner. If you hate walking/jogging/running anywhere that's quite a distance away, you are most likely not a true runner. If you'd never run unless you absolutely have to, you are most likely not a true runner. If running for no reason just baffles you, you are most likely not a true runner. If you hate running, PERIOD, you are most likely not a true runner. ************************************************************************************************* km = Kilometer(s) m = Meter(s) mi. = Mile(s) yd = Yard(s) ft = Foot/Feet _____________________________________________________________________ 1 mi. = 1,760 yd = 5,281 ft 1 km = 1,000 m _____________________________________________________________________ 1 mi. = 1.609 km = 1,609 m 1 km = 3,281 ft = 0.621 mi. 1 m = 3.28 ft = 1.1 yd _____________________________________________________________________ A 5K race = 5 km = 5000 m = 3.1 mi. I may just watch this often Day9 to keep myself on track. I am to constantly trying to get healthy and more fit. I love rock climbing but I got to a point my weight was dragging me down. So now I plan to eat right and work out till my fat falls off. I made great progress a while ago back in 2011 after getting a job from college. I wen't from 270lbs to 230lbs roughly. Now I'm up around 250lbs after doing a lot of rock climbing gaining muscle but not trimming down. My goal is 190, fairly low but over 200 seems too much for my 5' 6" height. Thank you for your inspiration and ability to motivate. See you on the other side of having a gut that can save a family of 4.

22 really seems like the prime of one's life. i too was at my physical peak around that age (little earlier). only got worse after that ... the worst thing is losing the will to be healthy. being unhealthy is so convenient and will generally not cause you much trouble for a long time. and then it's too late to turn it around easily.
@Polydueces10 жыл бұрын
The physical prime for guys is apparently 30-45. I'm 25, so I've yet to find out if that's true though hehe. People just tend to become more thoughtful about every little action as they get older, and then procrastination overwhelms everyone's life.
@sheds10 жыл бұрын
This was a great watch. I was a fat kid drinking about 3-4 sodas a day and eating tons of fast food. Then about midway through being 27, decided to start lifting weights and stop eating trash. I lost 50 pounds in 3 months and stayed healthy during that time. I lost 10 pounds the first week after I quit drinking all soda and eating fast food. Ate nothing but salad and chicken and broccoli for 2 months and added carbs back in at 8 weeks to deal with issues of being too tired to get out of bed and too sore to lift. Eating was the biggest difference. Basically stop eating fast food and you'll lose weight regardless of what you eat.

Still, it's a fair trade. ;)

I love your story times. They're awesome to listen to. I agree about health awareness in young adults. At least in my experience most of the people around me are indifferent or apathetic and eat whatever they please and it shows. I realized my own health in decline when I was only 18 and from then on I lived pretty cleanly not eating any fast food, drinking gallons of water, fruits and veggies and lots of exercise. I think after a long time of sticking to a certain lifestyle or food choice, cravings like burgers and fries don't have much of an impact as they did if you had only just stopped eating them. Ultimately, the results of my unhealthy lifestyle reflecting at me in the mirror kept me in check. Shallow, but in the end I felt good inside and that was something I didn't expect!
@jemag10 жыл бұрын
really great story! Losing weight shouldn't feel complicated though. You basically just have to slowly lower your calories until start losing 1-2 pounds per week (either by your nutrition and/or exercice). So it's simply calories in vs calories out...

The way I explain it to little kids (of all ages) is this: carbs are sugar, which you use as fuel. Proteins are building blocks for your body. You need some fat as well, to help with the building, but not a lot. If you eat too much sugar, your body stores it as fat. If you eat too much protein, you can't poop. If you want to eat healthy, stick to 3 meals a day. No snacking (except for apples), no soda, no alcohol. If you do snack, enjoy it.

I'd say buy a new bike and save some gas, lose some ass. Also p90x is pretty fun once you get past the first month. Good luck!

i think i've commented on this before, but i dont see it anymore so i'll say it again. my source is that i am a chemist. carbohydrates (in terms of foods) are simple sugars. and the process for naming them is incredibly simplistic according to the rules of the iupac. if you want the broader ranger of carbohydrates, then it gets much more complex, but still simple in that they follow a common naming structure.
@WhatAmThatDude7 жыл бұрын
it's simple shit sean. you have a valid point, but it's couched in such nonsensical hyperbole that i think it detracts from the narrative you're trying to convey
