I’m going through the same thing! Busy planning season, seeing my colleagues work on weekends, learning product feature impact, building roadmap slide decks. I also go to the office on Fridays since it’s actually possible to book a room

I like how you’re so self aware and transparent pointing out that it seems like some tech workers make it seem like they spend little time working and most of the time chilling, but that it’s not like that for every office worker. I met a guy at a party that works at capital one as a SWE that says he works from 10 am to 3 pm usually and he makes high 6 figs and he’s only a year out of college 🥲
@matthuang216 ай бұрын
Hey Shivani! Hope you're doing well, and thanks for sharing that story. I've also met people like that - rest assured that's not the case for everybody in tech!

Talking about the hours of work and weekend / OOO working… if you’re not doing it, someone else is. Make yourself known as a reliable pair of hands and as Barack Obama advised, “to get ahead in your career, just get s**t done”. Decent vid as always 👍🏼

Hey Matt, great video! I'm curious about how your working hours at Google compare to those in Consulting. Generally, Consulting can often be described with a 10-8-6 schedule (or worse) and typically averages around 60-70 hours a week. How is it at Google?
@matthuang216 ай бұрын
60-70 hours a week is pretty accurate for consulting. So far at Google it's been 40-50 hrs on average, with the infrequent busy week in the 50-60 hr range (usually if you work on a weekend day) - WLB is 100% better over here. I also travel around once a quarter at Google (vs traveling frequently while in consulting) and have far more control over my schedule because now I'm on the client side.

Hello Matt, I am currently in a bit of a struggle in my life and career as I want to make a career pivot into Finance, mainly into Investment Banking or consulting, but I graduated majoring in Law in 2023. I have interest in finance and want to make a career in it but I am not sure how can I get into such roles. It would be really helpful and insightful if you can make a video dedicated for people who are or might be in a similar situation in the future and they can come to your channel to get a roadmap and guidance. TIA
