Amazing routine. Dude, I am doing Bioinformatics as an undergrad and I am glad to see that there are others that share my passion for the Gym as well... We even have the same monthly/weekly planner hahaha!

Hey, great video! I was so happy to stumble upon it. Your daily routine seems like a dream for me. I have one question and it would appreciate it very much if you could answer it. So, I have a BSc degree in Biology and currently doing an MSc in Molecular Medicine. I am very fascinated, however, by bioinformatics and want in the future to follow a more computational path. Do you think it is possible to transition from a typical wet lab researcher to bioinformatics and learn to code on your own? What is your opinion? Thank you in advance
@oggyinformatics
@oggyinformatics 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Georgios! Yes, it is possible to transition from a wet lab researcher to bioinformatics and learn to code on your own. In fact, I have worked with people who have done exactly that. It will take time and effort to acquire the skills and knowledge needed... but it will be worth it if that's the career path you want to follow. My advice to you would be to first learn the fundamentals of coding. Start with R or Python. Then I would apply these coding skills to bioinformatics projects to boost your resume. Check out www.bioresnet.org/. You can work on bioinformatics projects and get training for free. You also may be able to get co-authorship on projects you help with. Hope this helps!

I feel like I am doing the same thing. I got my BSc degree in Microbiology and got some experience as a lab analyst. I am 26 yo and I just decided to start a diploma in Bioinformatics. I hope to learn a lot of HTML, python, and R and then see what happens, I think your experience "in the field" as a biologist with an MSc in Molecular med will be more valued when you're applying for a job. Good look!

Hey! Good job on the masters. Some things I can think of: - Know what youre looking for - Make sure you have a good resume that highlights your strengths - Create cover letter templates you can reuse across applicaitons - Turn on email notifications on different job sites so you can apply early to new jobs - Apply for lots of jobs (play the numbers game) - Use a spreadsheet to track every job you apply for - Practice interview questions - Always ask for feedback if you get turned down - Keep learning new skills alongside applications (if you have time) - Network on LinkedIn/ other sites. - Be patient, it may take some time

damn amazing video ! currently in 12th grade, with start studying bioengineering in college in a few months and probably bioinformatics in masters abroad (i'm from india) do you think its better for me to major in bioengineering or biotech in undergrad rather than cs or ai or data science as an international student who will be apply for masters in us or canada after undergrad ?
@oggyinformatics
@oggyinformatics Жыл бұрын
Hi! Your current plan sounds great, but both options are viable. I think majoring in bioengineering/biotechnology and then taking some other classes in CS/AI/data science to supplement your knowledge will put you in a great position for applying to master's programs and beyond.

Kindly guide me regarding this. And is it a surefire way to get a job after doing MSc or PhD?

With a Bachelors in Bioinformatics you can get hired into some entry level jobs. That being said, having a Masters or PhD will make you more competitive and broaden your opportunities for higher-level positions.

Hey! Great video! I am in search of a new laptop to start my bioinformatics masters. I am looking for lenovo thinkpads, From the video I can tell you also have a thinkpad. Is it your main machine or just for the office and how it performs. I found the t480. It is not manufactured any more but I can find it refurbished in a very reasonable price. The only complain is the old processor i5 8gen. M2 ssd and two unshutterd slots for up to 64gb ram sounds good. Any suggestion? Thank you very much!!!
@oggyinformatics
@oggyinformatics Жыл бұрын
Hi, Thanks! Yes I do like Lenovo ThinkPad's. In this video I was using the T470 model and it was very reliable. I did use it as my main machine at the time but I did not do any of my bioinformatics work locally (I would always connect to a remote server). I think the t480 will be a good option, especially if they give you remote server space during your masters (as was the case in my masters program).

Hi Varun! You will have to do some research yourself when picking a university. Here are some things I would look into: The university's reputation, course offerings and opportunities for personal and professional development, preparedness for your future career, the faculty's experience and credentials, and the location and available resources. I would recommend visiting the campus if possible to get a feel for the culture and community. You can also read student reviews and testimonials online to gain additional insights. :)
