I think every nurse and doctor should team up like this every once in a while. A lot of the time people get so caught up in their own point of view that they forget that other people might have different responsibilities than them. Pairing up like this is such a great way to build understanding and perspective. Really hope more doctors and nurses do this, seems like it would really benefit the work environment (and hopefully patient care)

This is such a good idea, letting healthcare professionals follow each other to get a sense of each other’s day/workload/what they do in general! That way we can be more considerate with each other e.g. when drs get annoyed if they get interrupted on a note when the pharmacist calls for an intervention, I can be like oh yeah it’s normal to be annoyed. So much of healthcare can be improved by learning about each other, so I’m so grateful that you let others see behind the curtain and what a day as a dr looks like ❤️ wishing you the best, just a pharmacist in training x

I have shadowed doctors a number of times. It profoundly changed how I relate to them. It helped to understand and move away from from that generalized term “busy” and appreciate their steps in the day. I believe it promotes teamwork as you showed in the video. Awesome teaching and learning from you! 💡

This doctor seems soooo nice! I hope she takes the nurse’s advice and never loses her bedside manner AND her interactions with her colleagues! The way she is so open to what the nurses and other medical team members have to say is amazing. A lot of doctors don’t want to hear what us nurses have to say, or they treat us rudely or are short with us. So I really appreciate this in a doctor!!

I totally agree. I'm a medical coder and I frequently have to ask doctors questions and follow up on patient visits for any issues we run across. A mutual respect is extremely important. Some doctors are rude or don't want to deal with us coders, and some are super nice and helpful. People are much more motivated to do their job well when everyone treats each other better.

This is such an amazing interaction. As a nurse, I feel like relationship between medical and nursing teams is never encouraged and it's not really something very important. I also love how you are building bridges between nurses and doctors - when I did an internship as a nurse in a hospital for paralyzed people, it happened so often that doctors or residents didn't even greet us when we walked past!

Ive enjoyed these posts. My wife and I have a daughter and son inlaw who both are 2nd year residents. She in family, and he is internal. They are in the same large city but in different programs. You have added some great background that i can add to the brief phone calls we get at all hours as she is heading to or from work. Her life has been so busy. I like that you have shown some light hearted chance to enjoy everything while dealing with it all.. gives me hope she can also. Thanks for these posts.

It's great to see the teamwork between the doctors and nurses! Nurses are the back bones of hospitals, ashlee is very committed and i can see she enjoys her job even through the stressful times. I'm going in for surgery next month but know in very good hands. Your videos are very informative and gives me an idea what goes on behind closed doors between staff which we the patients don't see. I think what happens, as with any job, people get jaded and over time may lose compassion or empathy as the years pass and excitement may fade.. I sure hope she never loses her awesome bedside manner, I’d be so happy to have her as my doctor!

Hi Siobhan from Ireland, this was a great video showing how hard doctors and nurses work, you both made a great team and were so natural u, friendly and open plus like the nurse knew what needed to be done for the patient, in the past was in hospital 5 months, so seen it all, and learned a lot through the whole experience, from being in ICU and everywhere in between, its an education in itself.

It's so exciting how medicine has evolved in the past 30 years I have been a nurse. Starting in med/surg and working in urgent care and emergency medicine, it changes so fast, so many new medications and technology. I’ve heard and experienced doctors’ attitude over years of work. This is due to work overload and numerous consults making some doctors testy and impatient. Never forget to have good bedside manners of compassion and empathy.

I'm a nurse and I loved this video! I love how open-minded are kind both of them are. So refreshing to see. It was great when the doctor enjoyed working as a team with the nurse who had shortness of breath! I wish all nurses got to shadow doctors and all doctors got to shadow nurses. I know as a nightshift med/surg nurse I would love to shadow one of the nightshift hospitalists for a day. We only have 2 hospitalists for the whole hospital at night and it'd be so interesting to see what they're doing all night long!

Yes, I agree😊 don't lose bed side manner. I've had my share of experience when the physician walks in and out where their mind is preoccupied to just get through checking the patient's.

I couldn't agree more with Ashley on her comments about what a great doctor-to-be you are as you show you care through your attitude and hard work. Ashley seems the exact same way, she's a nurse and you're a doctor?/doctor-to-be? because you care about helping people and happen to also enjoy biology and the science behind the human body so this field couldn't be more suited for you. Love the video.
