Congratulations!! I'm so impressed by the dedication and discipline that it takes to get that far. Just remember, love your patients. Be obsessed with them. Take fewer appointments in order to make human connections with people. It will all come back and be so rewarding for everyone.
@danielsparks1848 Жыл бұрын
@@Sentient_Goose Taking fewer appointments is not necessarily a good thing. People need care and the fewer appointments we take, the longer individuals have to wait to receive the care that they need. It is important to establish a connection with your patients whilst making certain people are seen and taken care of.

I think it would have been good to share the fact that most people who want to get into derm have to be about 10-15% at the top of the class. So even though you’re in Med school, it doesn’t always mean you will match into the specialty of your choice. It’s a really tough field to get into. I think it’s wonderful to have direction and things you love to do but to have Derm be your be all end all… it’s hard. Don’t be discouraged if you can’t get in.
@jacklebeaver54423 жыл бұрын
I agree with ur o[inion. But I also think having a second option means that your aren't really definite with your first and aren't as determined as you would be with only one option. Just my opinion.

This match system really stinks :/ I’m not even in med school yet but I already fear not matching lol
@mranderson16353 жыл бұрын
@@mke_gal if you go to an American Med school you’re almost guaranteed a match so I wouldn’t worry about not matching. You may not match where or into the field you’re ant depending on scores primarily but you will match. If you’re from Caribbean school… we’ll just hope you killed your boards and you have a lot of connections otherwise it’s just a gamble
@gloshiv23813 жыл бұрын
@@mranderson1635 you seem like a great Person to ask this, I’m from Africa and will be attending a Caribbean med school (SGU). What Advice can you give on matching into a competitive specialty, everyone so far is telling me to rather retry for an American med school and that I’ll have no chance to match what I want with a Caribbean med school. And what did you mean connections, do you mean during med school or only after. Thank you...
@mranderson16353 жыл бұрын
@@gloshiv2381 SGU is the top Caribbean school, they even have some grads who got into neurosurgery that I personally have met which is amazing IMO. But they scored over 265 on their boards plus they had a lot of research and took some time off for that. The same person would not have needed to try as hard to get into neurosurgery had they got into American Med school. Also their family was all doctor, a lot of connections. If you’re from Africa the biggest factor next to your scores will be are you a US citizen or at least green card holder? If so, you can do generally pretty well from SGU and should match into any primary care specialty without problems. If you’re not US citizen or GC holder than you will be applying to visa accepting programs only, which makes things a lot harder as there are way more smart people applying for just those few spots compared to those who don’t require visas. Hope that helps
