This is sooo cool. I’m gonna graduate high school soon and I wanna become a clinical psychologist. I literally do tons of research already just because I love it. And I also like the maths part of psychology (people overlook that part lol). I’m super lucky because my parents can afford to pay for my bachelors degree and then my doctorate straight after that. So your videos really motivate me to finish off high school strong, even though it has a bunch of subjects I don’t care about haha. So thanks for these videos! You seem like such a warm and kind psychologist! I’m sure your clients looooove you 🥺❤️

I'm graduating from my bachelor this year and I had a moment where I didn't know if I wanted to continue with the psych path after this year because all of the stress I've been under. It kind of put me off of it for a little bit but after finding your channel and specifically the videos where you talk about the advantages/disadvantages and the pathway in aus, I've found my passion for psych again and will definitely move into 4th year (after a year off cause wow I need a break haha). Thank you, a 3rd year psych student from melbourne :)

Hi I’m currently considering psychology and was wondering whether psychology is emotionally draining. You’re listening to people talk about deep issues and I’ve heard people drop out of psychology because it was too traumatic to listen. I was wondering if the job affects your personal life in any way. Also when you aren’t having a great day, maybe feeling upset or had a breakup, how do you put on a happy face and treat others?
@mikesquare
@mikesquare 11 ай бұрын
Most therapists are actually in therapy themselves. As a matter of fact it’s almost considered mandatory. This is to ensure that the therapist’s past traumas/issues are not being triggered during sessions with their own patients.

Love your videos! I’m trying to decide between pursing a degree as a clinical psychologist vs an mental health counselor. Aside from schooling, do you know what the difference is between the two careers as far a day to day perspective? Do both careers asses clients and come up with treatments plans of so how are they different? I’m really confused.

Hey Ro! Watching your videos always make me happy and I have binged through all your videos again haha sorry! I have been holding off on submitting my application for the psych bridging program because I am so nervous. I’m in my mid 20s, my previous discipline degree grades are between credit and distinction. I just wanted to know if would I be at an disadvantage if I take the bridging program when I apply for honours and masters later on? Is it alright for me to be afraid of failure? I already feel like that. Sorry for typing so much.
@thepsychdiaries
@thepsychdiaries 2 жыл бұрын
oh gosh of course it's okay to fear failure (I definitely do!), it sounds like while it's the tough thing to do it also sounds very important to you. I'm not sure about the bridging program tbh but I think usually as long as your marks and interview are good how you got there isn't quite as important! best of luck :)

I think I will always stand on the side of studying something you're interested in, it is a tough course however if you're passionate it will give you more motivation! I do strongly recommend reaching out to some of your lecturers or the uni counselling centre for a little more support though! good luck :)

I am studying Psych at the Canberra Uni at the moment, but I'm struggling to get a real understanding of how Clinical Psych and Counselling Psych differ. I've been doing a major in counselling but I also am concerned that there isn't much career growth potential in therapy. How did you choose your direction, and how do you understand the difference between Clinical and Counselling Psych?
@thepsychdiaries
@thepsychdiaries 2 жыл бұрын
I'm going to be honest- I'm also a bit confused! If you check out the APS website they do walk through the two but the only difference I can kind of see is that clin psychs have a wider scope (so potentially more able to see more complex or severe presentations) and also take on supervisory roles. Aside from that counselling psych describes many of the day to day things I do too! (psychology.org.au/for-the-public/about-psychology/types-of-psychologists/counselling-psychology)

Thanks for your response. I suppose the safest route is to go full clinical and then specialise down from there if it feels better.

Hello there! I am an aspiring Psychologist, currently taking my MA in Clinical PSY in the PH. I would like to ask because I kept hearing it a lot in your videos but, what exactly happens in "Supervision"...? I am unfamiliar with the term you see. PS: I love your videos, you always keep me inspired. Your videos actually helped me decide to truly push through with being a Psychologist. Keep up the good work!!!
@thepsychdiaries
@thepsychdiaries 2 жыл бұрын
Ah yes! So basically every psych in training needs a supervisor who is a senior clinical psychologist (usually quite experienced and they need to do extensive training to meet "supervisor" status). They are essentially the person you go to with all your questions/ difficult clients/ reflections on self care and become your mentor :)

Hiii I really want to major in psychology but I’m not sure how to demonstrate my passion to universities Bc I can’t find psych internships as a high schooler and I think I’m running out of time since I’m graduating in 2024 :/ do you have any advice you would give to a junior that wants to major in psychology??
@thepsychdiaries
@thepsychdiaries Жыл бұрын
Hey! Well actually I did nothing much, in Australia it's purely marks to get into university. However I would recommend any type of volunteering which puts you in contact with diverse groups of people (even things like summer camps or sports teams) as you can say you helped support people. Ideally you can conenct with a clinical population (so people who are actually going through a rough time like anxiety or depression and need support)

Hey depaki I'm sorry to hear you had an unhelpful experience, it's so frustrating to invest effort and money and come away feeling unsupported. On the other hand I hope it doesn't discourage you from ever reaching out or giving another therapist a go. I understand CBT (where thought awareness and monitoring is one of the foundation tasks) isn't for everyone and only helpful for some concerns. An alternative might be ACT or Schema. Wishing you all the best 🙏
