👆Remember to like the video to support the channel This video was recorded before the mass layoffs 😔 How are you feeling about the state of the tech industry rn?
@AmsNl2BcnEs2 жыл бұрын
All respect and best wishes to those effected first and foremost. No disrespect is meant in saying that it’s my impression the industry has grown too big, too fast in what is now seeming to be an unsustainable way. Businesses like Uber and twitter who weren’t making solid profits and ranking up debts, and meta who has yet to find a sustaining ‘next thing’ to give it a revenue stream once Facebook dies off (as it inevitably will) and takes its ad revenue with it. Apple, Google, Microsoft and Amazon have at least diversified their income streams so are likely to be less effected in their mainstream operations. Netflix, LinkedIn, PayPal and Airbnb are secondary and all greatly struggling as tech users rather than primary tech creators.

hey my friend , we talked few months ago on one of your videos where you were talking about opportunity apprenticeship program at google. I also told you few months ago , I got a job at booz allen hamilton and have been working as full stack engineer focused on spring, java , ReactJs , aws s3 and some internal tools. it has been amazing and I love what I am doing. I am currently practicing my algo and datastructure for my dream company google. hopefully , I will be able to ace it next year. I am positive. I gave myself a year taking time to understand concept and practice as much as I can now rush. thanks for your support here on youtube.

BIG UP MY GUYANESE PEOPLE IN TECH

Hi Jon! I have a lot to say about the interview process in the tech industry. Before my current dev job, I've been interviewing on and off the past couple of years. Last April, I was in the crossfire of 6 interviews in one week. It was a combination of behavioral and technical interviews. I was interviewing with 2 companies at the time. One company's process was to ask me technical questions about the current languages and frameworks, pair programming, and then behavioral with the team. The other had pair programming and behavioral as well. Other companies required me to go through the white boarding process. In which I would pass one or two rounds, make it to the final and I couldn't make it pass the last stage(bummer!) this included Google, who reached out to me even though I didn't apply LOL But it was a good experience to see what Google had in store for me during the interview process. I personally am not a fan of white board coding interviews. As much as you got to find out a certain pattern with these problems and communicate step by step your thought process, anxiety can get the best of anyone and sometimes you just have bad luck with that. I am a fan of pair programming interviews. I feel like its a good opportunity to see what its like to collab with someone on your potential future team and see what its like to build something together, considering thats what your work day will look like. I've done better with pair programming interviews compared to whiteboard coding interviews. Someone I know(his name is Jon, too!) actually founded a site called No Whiteboard, which is a job board consisting of tech industry roles that require no whiteboard coding at all and is 100% transparent with the interview process upfront!
@yourfriendintech2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jessica, thank you for sharing your experiences! I agree that pair programming can be such a better experience than whiteboard interviews for a lot of people, it would be awesome if more companies offered it. I'm surprised (in a good way) that there are a lot of companies on your friend's job board - that's very cool to hear! Definitely will share that around 😄.

@@yourfriendintech Yeah I landed a couple of interviews off No Whiteboard! Jon was also extremely helpful in giving me advice when it comes situations such as receiving multiple offers and good interview practices. All around good stuff on that site!

With the rise of remote working and colleagues across different countries, and even different continents With very different time zones and start/end times to their working days, lots of software company seem to be moving much more to asynchronous communication and an expectation that people aren’t available rather promptly to answer each other’s queries. Is there anything in Google has promoted or help with this? I appreciate things like slack as well as more mainstream things like Microsoft teams enable you to leave messages for later, but that’s not really an asynchronous approach. I’d be really interested to know your view on that this.
@yourfriendintech2 жыл бұрын
I work with people on the east coast / London timezones and depending on the situation we'll defer to different async methods like chat/group threads, emails, and tagging each other on docs. It works out pretty well for us

YT is changing monetization for shorts in Feb 2023
@AmsNl2BcnEs2 жыл бұрын
@@yourfriendintech oh ok. It’s a shame that this is where the focus seems to be, on competing with TikTok abet with subscribers rather than streams of unknown content creators. The depth of these short videos is near nonexistent - a funny moment, a mini tour, a quip or short saying. It’s not what many many people watch KZbin for. I wonder at what point do videos become effectively content-free 🤔
@yourfriendintech2 жыл бұрын
Short and long form content have different targeted audiences which is why I think it's a great move that YT is separating the two on KZbin channels now. As as a creator, I like the appeal of creating short form content because it's less effort to produce and so there's more opportunity to be more creative and experiment with different topics/formats
