In my district, we have a weird system. Here, bus numbers beginning with 6 are regulars, while those with wheelchair lifts have numbers starting with 7. Format is as follows: DYYNN. D is designation number, 6 or 7. YY is of course year, and NN is which bus it was of that year. Here’s an example. Bus 60912. It is a regular, from 2009, and is the 12th bus from that year.

Resolving this issue is easy. When you buy a bus, you can renumber the bus to fit your fleet. for example, you buy bus 4484 from New Dawn. You renumber it to your fleet bus 14-03. Or you buy 4494, it would be bus 14-04. Or 4485 14-05. You get the point. Bus 3185, 13-06, 1545, 11-07. Just you can renumber the bus. It doesn't have to be in order from where you got the bus, you can give it a random number that matches the rest of the fleet.

Our numbers are hyphenated. For instance currently I drive bus 11-5. The 11 is the model year (for 2011) and the 5 would be the 5th in the fleet for that year. So when the dispatcher calls me on the radio he'll refer to me as "Eleven dash five"

The new IC busses also have a differant floor and for our buses they have blue seats and the window latches are on the side of the window rather then on the bottom of them. I like the driving in it. Feels like its got better suspension then the other buses.

Lol Huntington Coach has a weirder numbering system than you, and they are in Long Island. Well, its somewhat organized. Our bus 1 is a 2007 CE, 2 - 9 are 2009's. 10 - 12 are 2011 CE's. 14 - 21 are 2004 CE's. 22 - 27 are 2013 CE's, 28 - 30 are 2009 CE's, 31 - 49 are 1999 Amtrans, 50 - 61 are 2010's, 62 - 75 are 2014's, 76 - 81 are 2017's, 82 and 83 are 2020's, 84 - 91 are 99's and so on.

For our districts buses, our numbers used to run up the scale first two are the year. Last two just go up the range. 98-55 to 98-57 then next year we get more and it continues 99-58 to 99-62 and so on. Keeps buses in order and its easier to know what bus is what. when we got to 100 they stopped going up the scale and started 08-01 to 08-04 and keeps starting over. I hate it. I liked the old way. Also, Pink diesel is not designed for engines made after 2007. That is offroad diesel for tractors and logging type equipment. that offroad diesel can really mess up a motor. Thats why the filters stay dirty. they aren't designed to be used with offroad diesel.

I live in a suburban school district just north of Syracuse, NY. They use 3 digit numbers all in order. They purchase 12 new buses every summer and the numbers for the new buses start where the last ones left off. This year they're running 450-591. Buses coming this summer will be numbered 592-603. How long does a full tank of DEF typically last mileage wise?

My company's busses have 5 digits and all have 6 as the third digit and the older ones begin with 1 and Newer ones with 2. Not sure exactly what's behind the numbering but the 216 buses are all the same type and the 206 are all the same type. Both different types of IC's like the 206 has a strobe light and the 216 doesn't. The 2162's have white tops with maxxforce 7 while the 2163's have yellow tops with maxxforce DT

where I live I used to ride bus 2211 and 981 it was fairly old and then we got new buses they started out like 1125 1308 and like that but there mixed up a little so it is like a mix of old and new buses but it is not in order
