I'm not working as a delivery driver or anything but all I can say is I hate how sometimes people use their workstations and leave them completely dirty. Like, your work area is basically your "breathing area" because you spend there usually more than 7 hours a day so might as well leave it clean and pick up after yourself. It will make the life of the one after you easier and in general improve everyone's day by just showing the workers care and i'm sure it takes literally half a minute to pick after yourself in a job like this.

Mini rant over lol loved the video Chris
@observingrogue76524 ай бұрын
I was thinking that too, then thought about how hard they work, and what they may have gone through during a shift. I used to work for DutchX, a third party company doing deliveries for Amazon. They fired me, because I accidentally ignored their calls, when I was busy doing big deliveries at apartment buildings, over 4 floors up, no elevator, and the customer requested, or directly asked me to bring them upstairs, because they physically couldn't. One of my customers was disabled, and I always bring packages upstairs when requested, so they don't get stolen from the lobby. Which happens to my building. I basically got fired by DutchX for caring about my customers, and ignoring my managers' harassing calls, because I was focused on my job. Dispatcher didn't even tell me I was being called whenever I returned to the hub. I used 2 phones, and my hotspot phone in my bag, in the trailer, was the one they were calling. And for whatever reason, DutchX was phasing out private delivery vehicles owned by drivers, replacing them with these slow ebikes, pulling these big electrically assisted trailers. DutchX is such stupid, evil, abusive company. I would love to work for Amazon directly, but to my knowledge, they don't use quick ebikes to deliver smaller packages in NYC. It's trailers, vans like this, or walkers with handkarts. So I'm guessing Amazon couriers can be overworked & stressed out. Again, packages are being stolen from the lobby of my apartment building, so even I request mine be brought up to my door. But that has only happened twice, and one of them was UPS delivering my bicycle for Amazon. So I'm guessing some Amazon delivery people are too stressed out & rushed to also keep their vans clean?

Two days later, this obscure part arrived at my doorstep (from Amazon), and the next day after a replacing the part, my stove was working again! It was interesting to see your review of the electric van, and also a day in the life of a person making deliveries and all that you do. Yes, Tesla really missed the boat by focusing so much mental energy on the Cybertruck which is for a rather small market of enthusiasts. There’re a huge, huge market for last mile delivery vans. For a young company, Rivian really hit a home run with the EDV. I believe all those micro time savings all day long and improved worker comfort will result in measurable savings for companies delivering with the EDV - the electric propulsion is almost secondary to the savings from features that could be on any type of van.

Not gonna lie... i was an amazon driver and it SUCKED! I tried. I honest to god tried. No lie. It was in NYC and i was sweating my ass off in the summer. Broken AC's. Overly sensitive devices that track you. They sent my ass to brooklyn. There were some narrow ass drives over there. So someone decided to pull out. So i had to back up about a foot or 2 to let them out. I had alot of packages on that block. The sensor recorded that and sent that to my boss. That counted towards my "points" are whatever. I was dying of heat stroke. And i had to climb multiple flights of stairs at complexes that had no elevator and i couldnt leave packages in the lobby. One building DID have a door man and she said it was ok. I had over 50 packages for him and there was a huge ass pile. I was so happy for that lol I had to carry about 300 pounds of kitty liter up 5 flights of stairs because... no elevator. I was in yhe worst neighborhoods while my other co-workers had the best routes. I understand not everyone can have the same thing. I completely get that. BUT DAMN! It sucked ass. I swear it was the worst job i ever had. When it came to my lunch break where they force you to log out of the system or whatever. I was still droping off packages. In fact other people told me to do that un order to finish my load quicker. Then if you finished your route they made you do someone elses route!!! So if i got done by 2 or 3 they would give me 150 more packages from someone else to do there share. Jesus christ. I hated it. Then they wanted people to sign up to drive the even bigger trucks. Not the vans but the trucks for an extra dollar an hour. Anyway. All im saying is that i didnt have this guys experience. Not at all. AND every other road was under construction AND most of the highway exits and entrances. This must be a "small town". Cuz NYC kicked my ass. So i obviously switched to work in the warehouse they set up the packages. Not deliever them shortly afterwards. This made me vow to never take a job delivering anything to anyone ever again. Gave them their package. And left with a piece of cake that they gave me. I thanked them. I went outside and within 6 seconds the cake was gone. I swallowed it. Wow, that is an awesome van! Finally a much nicer work environment for delivery employees. I don't know where you are located but I live in Arizona and always feel so bad for the UPS drivers in the over 100 degrees heat. We don't have Amazon drivers in this rural area.

165 stops? I did some rough math based on an 8-hour shift a short 30 minute lunch break and a 10 minute break. That's one package every 2 minutes and 39 seconds. Crazy with driving time, parking, finding the package in the back, walking back and forth, etc...

What is your battery at after 130 stops? I've been delivering for just over 3 years now using pickup trucks with space caps on them, mid sized white vans and now the larger ford amazon vans with touch screens and keyless fobs which are the best. We are very pressured in Canada to always try and hide the package at porch areas to minimize theft, it's in the first training video we are shown. I do the same amount of 120 to 150 stops.

I worked for a LTL company for 25 years and they used to have us driving a different trucks every day. Which like you said there are some nasty people that gets in them and leaves trash, food and sticky crap on the steering wheels and would piss us off!!! And you would have to check the damage in the morning so you don't get accused of it. They finally assigned us our own trucks to drive every day, and it made it a whole better.

@@robertheinkel6225I live in a smallish city in Canada. Couple years ago a courier was making deliveries and started driving and heard a noise so they stopped to investigate. Soon as they got out someone jumped in and took the van. They prob stuck a bottle in the tire or something. The van was found a short distance away missing two packages. Someone knew what was in there. Prob weed or firearms.

As a delivery driver I'm jealous of 2 main things on the rivian (though are much more common in US anyway) The access to the rear from the cab and the sliding passenger door and being able to step out rather than climb out while trying to not get pulled out by the door on windy days. Would save me so much time and effort climbing in and out every stop. Not that its hard but couple hundred times a day adds up real fast on top of being manual so thousands of clutch uses too and my knees aren't getting younger.. The proximity locking on the keyless system is nice too but I deliver in rural area so not so important for me

Truly awesome vehicle! Must be why a driver delivered my package and waited for a fuel powered Ford Transit van to transfer half his load so he could hopefully make it back to the warehouse. He said 10-15 miles ago it said he had 162 miles of range left. When he got to my house he only had 58.

Still cannot wrap my mind around the fact that you guys are just dropping parcels on the front porch. In Europe we have standard mailboxes locked with keys which can contain most of parcels and if the parcel is too big, the delivery guy will ring the bell or if we are not at home, he will put it somewhere safe after calling us, we would never leave a parcel in such a open and visible place.

America is awesome. I've met 2 British people before, one lived here and the other was visiting. I talked to both of them and the one who lived here said he knew he was a redneck at heart. He owned a house with a mustang and jeep and a pick up truck. The one who was visiting told me he was surprised at how friendly people were because the media shows us being loud all the time. He did say our roads could be better and i agree. Too much traffic in southern California. The usa is a big country. Many different places to live.

The way he refers to “the algorithm” is kinda creepy. Like some overlord type shit lol.
@ziploc20004 ай бұрын
Nevertheless that's how it's done. Each route is calculated based on the length and number of packages to deliver, as a loop out from and back to the hub. There could be a dozen or more routes from each hub, and every day they'll be different. You just can't manually and efficiently work out that kind of complexity, you need a computer algorithm.

I liked the all around cameras on the EV. The amount I could snake through some narrow spots with those was so good. I did one really narrow spot I shouldn't have, then a bit later in the regular van and thought to myself "How da fuq did I get the EV through this?" They are great on main streets but uggggggghhhh in tight apartment parking lots and narrow streets. We serviced a couple towns that the regular van barely fit, let alone the Rivian.
