Not sure if it’s work with that pillow, but you could try this trick I learned from another backpacker if using a shirt to secure the pillow to your sleeping pad. Just slide a shirt over the top of your sleeping pad, then slide the pillow up in between the pad and the shirt. The tension should hold it in place. It works well if/when the strap on the pillow breaks but might work on your wide sleeping pad too. Stay safe! Y’all are doing awesome.

At 12:00, it's clear that spontaneous combustion occurred to an unfortunate hiker, and the boots were all that remained. More likely, somebody bought some trail runners at Mountain Crossings and thought, "Well, I will give the expensive leather boots I brought with me one more try." But that was it. Too bad they didn't loft them into the tree at Neal's Gap. Don't let the stress get you down (easier said than done). You two are doing really well at this point, and you've had a great start to your thru hike.

Happy Easter, y'all! He is risen!. The preacher in me is feeling a sermon, but I will just leave it at this. Easter is the most important event in all of the atonement. The Apostle Paul said that if Jesus wasn't raised from the dead, then our faith is in vain and we are most to be pitied, because we are lost and without hope. But He DID rise and we will rise with Him one day, soon I hope. OK, on to lighter stuff, MB, between the stairs, the pickles, and false summits, I am seeing the funny / sarcastic side of you. The struggle IS real. Gotta love it. Glad y'all timed the rain just right and were able to push a bigger day. LB, glad you got to say goodbye to Orange Kitty. Push on, and God bless.

I am so glad that you weren't injured in the fall on the stairs but those are the kind of things that will knock you off the trail. The trail is safer than your hometown but as soon as you are near or in civilization, there is always a chance of injury. You guys are doing great, still smiling all the time and still enjoying the trail and now you are both getting used to trail life. Enjoy your hike! Hike safe, Hike strong, Have fun! geek

OK, here goes… the BOOTS story (My take 🤓) His name was Allen Micheal Baxter, it was 1943, and it was to be his first and only attempt of the AT from Springer to Katahdin. That particular day, just over blood mountain, was oddly, very fitting because the blisters caused by his boots were so painful, that Alan had no choice, but to pop them. Try as he might, he could not stop them from bleeding. In order to tend to his wounds , he tented in that very spot that night, but in the morning the blisters were more painful than ever. He had no choice, but to continue on, barefooted, leaving his boots on a log, and his crimson footprints behind as he headed north. It was a nightmare for him because each time he stopped into towns he was either given, or he purchased a new pair of boots or shoes. Each pair was worse than the last and so he gave them away or threw them up into a tree. This continued on week after week, month after month, up and down summits. He walked hundreds and thousands of miles, BAREFOOT! He made it through the entire 100 mile wilderness and then before he knew it, he stood barefoot at the tree line of Katahdin. As he completed the last 10th of a mile and touched the sign at Baxter peak on Mount Katahdin , he suddenly alpha jerked awake! Everything from that first painful , blistery night and forward …was only a DREAM! He was still only 28 miles into the AT, with 2,170 looong miles to go! That very moment he had revelation! He had even dreamed within his dream that when his hike was over, he was going to contribute to the “spirit” of the AT, by designing the perfect hiking shoe! His decision was made. He called for rescue and was carried off the trail! After recovery and much calculation, Mr. Baxter planned all the steps he needed to become a trail shoe designer! That is exactly what he did! Baxter Trail runners were so successful and his business was so booming, he never had time to step foot on the trail again! Alan Michael Baxter is still alive today. As a matter of fact, today, he turned 100 years old and thoroughly enjoys watching all of the hiker-vloggers who are making the beautiful journey he never got to finish. It is said he only made it 1 foot…1 step past where he left his boots. To this day, he tells everyone he meets, “ no matter where you’re going, no matter how hard the journey… Just take the next step…with a heart of gratitude… and your steps will lead you where you were meant to go. Things don’t always turn out how you plan… But continue to plan with a grateful heart and you will find your own summit!” -Story by trail name, TBA :-) PS….🙏thankful you’re OK ! Thank you both for your inspiration and faith! Phenomenal mom & daughter hiking team! You’re amazing! We’re with you all the way! 🌷💚🌷💚🌷💚🌷
