This will be my third month working for UPS as a Preloader. I’m currently on probation until my review comes up which should be in a few weeks. I live in Michigan where it’s a small tourist town and the hub where I work is understaffed in terms of preloaders. Work normally starts around 3:30am or 4am depending on the trailers for week. Anyway, I’m tasked with loading 4 trucks. And let me tell you, it is not easy. Especially when my trucks have 197-230 packages per day. Granted, my miss-loads have been way better since I started back in late June. But today was not my day. Recap: As the only preloader with 4 trucks that tends to make my morning a living nightmare. As my packages come down the belt I have to be quick like roadrunner fast. But this morning I was criticized by a member of the Management team because they weren’t liking what I was doing. I wasn’t bending at the knees, I wasn’t using optimal carry, etc. Until it got to the point where I wasn’t allowed to put packages under the belt! That I had to stack my packages up against the doors. I mean, hello! There’s just no room to do that. I have to put packages under the belt otherwise I get so far behind that I just want to throw my hands up and say f*ck it! And don’t get me started on potential hires. They come in, work their first shirt and than they’re done. Or they leave as soon as break starts. I’m definitely gonna be looking at other jobs this week. Cause I just can’t keep up anymore. Sure the workout is good. But a single preloader with 4 trucks is hard.

I’d come in with so many packages I couldn’t close the doors on the truck and I wouldn’t get in until 11 hours with packages stacked up front with me. It’s ridiculous. The company spies on you and harassment is normal. No time for lunch or breaks, I’d go the entire day without stopping. I was so tired when I got home it was straight to bed so I could do all the madness again the next day.
