Bandera is a town straight out of the Wild West, and for good reason -- it is the "Cowboy Capital of the World." Mosey on down to this town in the Southern Hill Country for all the fun, food and horsin' around you can fit in a ten-gallon hat.
Find all your Wild West needs at this historic store, from a new pair of boots and belts to souvenirs and jams. Put a cherry on top of an already sweet day trip by ordering a milkshake at the old-fashioned soda fountain!
Take a walk on the weird side of town at this museum started by J Marvin Hunter with all the mementos and donations he received from folks during his time as owner of the “Frontier Times,” a popular magazine in the early 1900s. You’ll find everything from family photos to antique guns. The museum also features oddities like a mummified squirrel and two-headed goat.
While you’re in town, stop by one of the oldest Polish churches in Texas that was built in 1876 to see the amazing artworks inside that rival those of the Painted Churches.
For 50 years, this honky-tonk underneath the Bandera General Store has been the place to end a day in Bandera. Enjoy a cold beer and watch musicians play from the same stage that’s hosted country greats like Hank Williams, Jr.
Head on a wild safari in the middle of this cowboy town at the Bandera Natural History Museum! Wander through rooms packed with full-bodied mounts of exotic animals all posed in their natural habitats and all donated from one man’s private collection. And the craziest part? Each area has its own smell!
Giddy up to the bar (and sit on actual saddles) at this classic Texas joint for a massive chicken fried steak that’s as thick as it is wide, and aptly named “The Duke.” Be sure to check out the “John Wayne” room and pile your plate high at the covered-wagon salad bar!
This spot doesn’t always have food, but when they do it’s grilled up on a Texas-sized pit! Join the community at the 11th Street Cowboy Bar for “Steak Night” and bring your own meat to throw on the grill. For a couple bucks, you can get all the fixin’s for a steak dinner!
Saddle up a trusty steed at Juniper Hill Stables and horseback ride through the Hill Country State Natural Area next door. This 5000-acre working cattle ranch that’s open to the public has awesome relics of ranching days past and incredible Hill Country views.
Not too far from Main Street, the Medina River winds its way through Bandera City Park and there’s no better place to cool off in the summer heat. The water is so clear that you can see all the way to the bottom when you’re standing on the banks of the river!

11th Street Cowboy Bar. Been a few years but we visited there. Not on Wednesday unfortunately. Tie rail, for horses, out front had quite a few Harley's but also some real horses also. Loved it.

Great video! I wish you could have been in and around Bandera in the 60's and 70's...good times. My family has property over to Utopia so we were always in Bandera. Purple Cow Saloon, Cabaret, OST at 2 in the morning lol. It was a good place to grow up. Zeke's Hamburgers, owned by a Baptist Minister. Great burgers but no beer.

Haven't been there in a long time and overdue. Some of the family had a hotel/and Purple Cow for a time back in the day. Before the fire of course.

Ive been to bandera probably 50 or more times and its awesome. The chupacabra meat market is the best . OST chicken fried steak takes me back to when you could go in any cafe in Texas and they would have one on the menu . If you want to vacation there stay at Als Hideaway in pipe creek , just down the road. Say hi to Gordon, Jennifer and Memaw for me .

My oldest brother lived in Medina so once in a while we'd go the the big city of Bandera. Been coming here for almost 70 years. Every summer we have a family reunion at Haggard park where we'd have musicians come and play. Can't wait till this summer.

I was coming from west to rhe RGV and looking for ab alternative not to get thru SA rraffic, and stumble with this beutiful town fall in love immediately, and couldn't remeber the name, until some time later thanks to a texas backroads group in Facebook I described it and somebody mentioned it, I took a friend while doing hotshots, he fell in love with it as well, but its quite hard to get thru with a 40 footer behind your truck, so we haven't actuslly explored it yet

Whatever happened to the women with the horseback rides into Hill Country State Natural Area? Her accent sounds like she is from somewhere up North - definitely not a Texas accent. I asked around and found out she was at the 1077 Dude Ranch. When I asked about horseback rides at the 1077 Ranch, they told me that the new owner of the 1077 Ranch told the woman that her horseback riding services were no longer welcome, and she had to remove her horses and herself from the premises. I wonder what happened. The woman lost her residence and horseback riding business all in one fell swoop 😱

Tjs at the old forge has delicious food, but they take forevvvvvveeerrrr. They even have a sign that says “ it’s good food, not fast food” but seriously anything more than about 5 full tables, you’ll wait 30-45 mins for your meal. Super annoying.
