DayByDay Vlogs for some horses, the stronger bits might cause a horse like finn who was a bit nervous more anxious but now that he is more calm and comfortable things like stopping may come easier. for me, i had a tendency to put my hands down to stop when you should really pick them up if your horse doesn’t want to stop. so sometime it’s not the horse but i trust your trainers judgment!

Just A tip for when you do the barrel pattern with Finn , veer away from the barrel before you turn and then cut the turn tighter towards the end of the turn when you are facing the other barrel… you want to leave a nice pocket around the front and first side of the barrel so that you can get a lot closer to the back side of the barrel moving onto the next barrel in the pattern… It makes turns a lot faster and easier
@clairegrayce674 жыл бұрын
Come at the barrel a bit wider so it's smoother and saves you time, when you're in so close it causes them to sort of turn in a v shape and disadvantages you

I think she has her hands full with jumping at the moment though. Of course they're just having fun, but if they're really interested you should take advantage! why get custom saddles if you are gonna use half pads? thats such a waste of money just to ruin your horses backs. Using half pads makes the saddle fit so much tighter which defeats the whole purpose. Just use a saddle pad. Obviously with chino use a half pad but not with Finn and Storm
@DayByDayVlogs4 жыл бұрын
We chose to take the advice of our professional saddle fitter
@corinnekel13244 жыл бұрын
@@DayByDayVlogs ive talked to 3 professional saddle fitters and they all have said to not use half pads on an already fitting saddle. If you are using a thin saddle pad like the lemieux, just put a baby pad under it. One of the saddle fitters i talked to said that using a half pad with an already fitting saddle is like running in a pair of shoes that fit you normally with normal socks, in a few pairs of thick socks.
@ashleys74804 жыл бұрын
using a thin half pad like they are doesn't affect the fit of the saddle, jut adds more comfort for the horse. Look at all the high level GP jumpers, most use something under the saddle purely for the horses comfort.
@corinnekel13244 жыл бұрын
@@ashleys7480 bro the half pads they are using are super thick lol. and yeah i get using an actual thin one for doing like 5 foot jumps but not all the time. You can tske a plain looking person and transform them into stunning by how they shine from within. How you access that inner beauty is by being confident and happy. If your not feeling happy and confident then fske it till you make it sister. Let your spirit free and just be the you that God made. Go out there and ignore the side of you that makes you feel not beautiful. Push it aside. Imagine your a beautiful queen and everyone would love to talk to you! I promise it works! The concept of raised trot poles seems to go right over Finn’s head 🤣 Great exercise though- Storm’s hind end looked GREAT once he started trotting over them properly; a great way to build up a solid haunch!
@DayByDayVlogs4 жыл бұрын
Haha yup!
@tierneysingers80324 жыл бұрын
They were strided out as canter poles that’s why fin was picking up canter, he knew exactly what to do. What a awesome lil horse 😊 got to bare in mind he has a lot shorter stride (Trot &canter.) than Chino and Storm so has to stretch him legs to make the distances more. As Laura said his so sure footed and figured it out and kept Sophie safe, what more could you want 🥰
@andiee41634 жыл бұрын
Tierney Singers exactly the point though- Finn DOES have a shorter trot stride, and even Storm had to reach to make that in a canter, so getting in an extra trot step between all the cavaletti was more than doable for Finn 🤷🏼♀️ Finn launching trying to make the canter distances and treating them like jumps vs raised poles was not the point of the exercise and he’s done it in the past, hence why they are incorporating more raised poles in their flatwork

I’m an empath too, Laura... definitely understand what you’re saying! It took me a long time to realize that it was not necessarily my own emotions when talking or being around certain people. I had a horse in my late teens. (I’m in my late 30s now.) At our last show together, I could tell my horse wasn’t feeling it. (It was hot, gross and dusty at the fairgrounds. She was used to being in a lush 100 acre pasture with her herd when not being ridden.) I felt some sadness knowing it was our last show. In our equitation and pleasure classes, I basically just let her do whatever she wanted. We didn’t place in any classes and I didn’t care. (It was the N.Y. State 4-H horse show, so it’s not like I had paid any class entry fees.) She wasn’t feeling it and she had been such a good girl for me in the 3 years I had had her... so it wasn’t worth fighting with her for one insignificant show. Anyhow, I think Sophie should explore barrel racing if she wants to/likes it. Finn seemed to enjoy it! Also, I knew quite a few barrel racers who took English riding lessons cuz it helps them better their seat. So... Sophie is halfway there!
@sheblyne4 жыл бұрын
If Chino ever seems sad it's when he's left behind, which has happened quite often while he had his foot troubles. He seems to love his people and also seems to enjoy working so staying back on his own is hard for him. Sophie is looking so much better on Finn . He's the sort of horse that wants to be trusted and to show you he can do it. He's quite a nimble boy and once he understands what you want he's very happy to do it. Storm looked happy to be working a little .

this was a great video! I love that Sophie is trying new things, and she did EVERYTHING her big sister did without second-guessing herself. Sophie, everyone talks about Gabby being a good rider, you need to know that you are doing awesome! you have faith in your horse and he really does try for you. Gabby I love that you are always working to get better, you are a good rider! I would advise, more leg, and some balancing coming into the bounces. The key for a horse to get the distance is impulsion and the ability to collect or stretch out as needed. focusing on a more forward and supportive ride (impulsion) will help him get his distance. (think that you are balling his hind end up into your hands, / driving him forward and into a supportive hand) It seems as if he was waiting to be driven up and into Gabby's hand, and because that didn't happen, he did not have the striding or impulsion to collect over the bounces. Finn, however, took very good care of Sophie, he stretched to make a stride and already has the impulsion to push him forward.

Also not Laura, but I’ve done horseback riding lessons for the past two years and there have been plenty of people around your age that come in! It’s not an easy transition but as long as you are patient and stretch when you can there’s no harm in trying and I’m sure you’ll have a lot of fun!

Hey Debra! Amazing advice here and I agree. I have seen many people your age riding snd in fact our barn is all older people. Like literally all of them ! Do your research and find the right barn. Its such good exercise. The reason I want a gaited horse is because how much easier it is on your body. I think you should try one. Gsited breeds are perfect for older people. There's less concussive movement so its so smooth. Western saddles are also great for older people. If God brings it to your heart then he does it for a reason! Try it!!! One lesson at a time and I bet you will find it thr best fun and will help keep you young

I just stumbled over this video, after I'd tried barrel racing for the first time with my pony. We managed to do it in trot and canter the way to the finish.

You guys should get whitening shampoo for Finn’s tail! Worked wonders on my grey (and very messy) OTTB

barrel racers usually don’t half seat the canter if she were to sit to it finns ability to go faster would be so much nicet

Both Sophie and gabby looked amazing I think storm would make a good western pleasure horse too bad I live in British Columbia I could come and ride storm and see if he still likes western pleasure. Something I noticed wasn’t quite sure but I think the reason storm was having trouble getting the correct strides over the Cavaletti‘s was because storm has a longer stride then Finn at the canter and trot so many of you made them a little farther apart or maybe even closer that might help but no hate at all I love you guys :)

I rodeo so this is just a tip… And I know you guys were just doing it for fun but you shouldn’t go around the barrel pattern multiple times within a lesson like Max four times including walk trot go rounds because the horse will start getting bored with the pattern. You can continue to do turning work just randomly with a tree or a different kind of post. I was just saying this because you want to set your horse up for success!

Interesting!

It really just depends on the horse. 😊

Caitlyn Fabian Yeah mainly with the younger or inexperienced barrel horses. I I have one that I ride for a man that knows everything she’s doing and she would run as hard as she can time after time but she starts anticipating the turns...I was just trying to help

@@sierra_27_brown Yea understandable, I know you were just trying to help😁 I was just adding on a little.
