Arizona does not observe daylight saving time (DST), with the exception of the Navajo Nation, which _does_ observe DST. The Hopi Reservation, which is not part of the Navajo Nation but is geographically surrounded by it, also does not observe DST. For this reason, driving the length of Arizona State Route 264 east from Tuba City while DST is in place involves six time zone changes in less than 100 miles.

Considering that we spent more energy using air conditioners during DST, I don't see how much "saving" we are actually getting.
@GeorgeVCohea-dw7ou8 ай бұрын
You only utilise more air conditioning, because DST occurs in the midst of spring and summer. It does absolutely nothing about the actual amount of time the sun is heating your particular portion of the Earth.
@GeorgeVCohea-dw7ou8 ай бұрын
Considering that DST is implemented, whilst North America is going into spring and summer and the sun simply shines more on the Northern Hemisphere and makes it warmer. Changing the time has zero effect on sunshine and will save almost nothing. Maybe, it does have an effect, because there is 1 less hour in the billing period, but the technology of the LED bulb has done much more energy savings than forcing people to get up in the middle of the night to artificially change the time.
@patrisio38 ай бұрын
Energy use stays the same as standard time. Yes, it stays hotter one extra hour in the evening during DST. But it also stays cooler one extra hour in the morning. Whether DST or standard, the amount of sunlight stays the same.

I think people in the South don't understand daylight saving time. I used to live in Arizona, and the number of hours of sunlight doesn't vary that much between winter and summer. I now live in Wisconsin and it starts to get light around 4:30 in early summer. Without our daylight saving time it would start getting light around 3:30 when most people are sound asleep. Rather than waste that hour of daylight I prefer to save it while I'm still awake in the evening, as it gets dark around 9:15 at night. That's why it's called "Daylight Saving". The further north you go, the more sense it makes

The closer to the equator, the less difference there is in the number of daylight hours between summer and winter. In Alaska, there are places that only get 3 hours of sunlight in the winter and only 3 hours of darkness in summer. But places in Ecuador near the equator get 12 hours sunlight and 12 hours darkness in both summer and winter. In places like that, there is no purpose for changing the time. Not changing the time doesn't affect Arizona and Hawaii as much as it would Minnesota.

@aidangrigsby9617 If you feel that strongly about it that is. For DST our brain is constantly adjusting with the difference between the sun & clock in front of us. It gets tired to recorrect the confusion repeatedly. Cannot sleep when it’s time to wind down, can’t wake up when it’s time to with the sun. To me it’s better to change work hours to enjoy more daylight rather than fighting with the sun with our clocks. Let’s not confuse our brain & body. It messes up our perception of light which is not healthy. Unlike many places we have the opportunity to enjoy both day & night to the fullest…
