Just changed from 32GB intel pro Mac to M4 basic MacBook Pro - it is shocking how faster and smoother everything is. Load it up with all the usual apps and everything is smooth and fast. Incredible improvement from Intel to M4

Amazing review and different from the average KZbinr. I went from 16 inch intel i9 to 14 inch m4 pro. My biggest doubt was nano texture or not but in the end went with standard.

Have you also noticed an annoying fan noise on the M4 Pro? I'm coming from a dead silent M1 Pro and the fans on the M4 Pro caught me off guard. I'm just browsing chrome with 4 tabs open and they'll be spinning for no reason. Same when I plug the charger in. What makes it worse is that the minimum spin on M4 Pro is 2400 rpm whereas it's only 1200 on my M1 Pro, much more noticeable. I'm thinking of returning it if I can't find a fix.

I've been using Magsafe almost exclusively. Ever since I learned that there is a chip in the USB charging circuitry that can burn out and take all the USB ports down with it in M1s, I've been paranoid. If Apple sticks to pattern, there's a good chance it hasn't been addressed in M4 models because it never reached critical mass in press coverage.

@@DayoAworunse The only reason I can give without lying to myself, is that I do alot of Bayesian modeling using Stan and brms (r package). Not huge datasets but objects can get sometimes large and I could use the RAM. I am still not sure I really need it. Other than that, I read that fan noise is better (i.e. lower) in the Pro, and since I have a M1 Air, I am quite accustomed to silence :)

oh and i'm curious to know how the mini m4 goes for you.... mine gets extremely HOT when just playing/running things like cookie run kingdom.... it's pretty concerning. i can't imagine "gaming" on this... dwindling the lifespan due to the heat. I wish it was the older design with more surface area for cooling... yeah.. the sff is fun... but i'd rather have better thermals. the m2 mini wasn't that big. but apple consumers go insane over smaller things ig.

There some people that say the MagSafe is better for the battery. The charging and powering of a connected system with usb-c is a very complex topic especially because what actually happens is not always what you expect or what the specs state. On top of that of that the battery topic for MacBooks is also compacted and it is an important topic as this laptops can last for many years so the battery may be the week part of the chain.

Right now I have a MacBook Air early 2020 intel i5 / 8 GB RAM / 256 GB SSD. I bought it when It came out for simple school tasks and all the online classes needs I had. During quarantine I started coding and as of now I code in Swift with Xcode (iOS apps) and in Dart/Flutter. To be honest, my MacBook has done a really good job, but a new and more powerful machine is what I need now (additionally, I'm entering college next year and might study software engineering or other similar career). I was waiting for the M4 MacBooks to come out but now I'm not sure which model I should buy. I was thinking about the base model with 1 TB storage upgrade, but I've seen lots of reviews saying that the M4 Pro is the best price/quality option; additionally, it may suit better my requirements. In my country, the difference is of around $500 USD (consider 1 TB for both), which I'm not sure if I should pay. Also, I'm thinking of getting the new nano-texture display upgrade. Could anybody give me any suggestions?

Funny and honest, that's a rare combo! I'm about to buy a new MacBook Pro since my very old 2014 model is showing its age. I'm really undecided because I'm not an audio professional whatsoever now, but audio is my passion and I still enjoy using DAWs and audio tools. Plus, I'd really love to do some decent gaming. I feel like the M4 Pro might be overkill for me, but I also know I need at least 1TB of storage, and 16GB of RAM might not be very future-proof-especially when using DAWs and when Apple Intelligence is going to be more and more powerful. The maxed-out M4 configuration with 24GB RAM and 1TB storage is only €280 less than the M4 Pro, and as you said, it's not worth it. I don’t know-should I save the money, ditch the 24gigs and go for the 16GB M4 and not worry about the future?. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! 😊 PS.: did you feel the single fan on the M4 to be too noisy?

For different creator fields, would change my recommendations. Video editors, the M4 Pro is well worth it. Programmers or photo editors, you can stay with the M2 Pro or M3 Pro. No difference. M1 Pro is the same the M2 Pro and M3 Pro, but warranty lifespan is less.

i upgraded from an m1 MBA not for the power, but for the speakers. i like to watch youtube videos as i shower, and the MBA speakers are just to weak to compete with the glass door and sound of showerhead. almost upgraded to an m4 pro b/c all the reviewers told me to spend the extra $400 but im glad i just got the base as it's plenty fast for youtube videos.

So hear me out. I'm embarrassed to say since I've started working and had a company issued laptop I haven't owned one of my own in over a decade! I got the M1 iPad pro and tried to do some editing on the go but iPad OS aint ideal! I've stood on the sidelines looking longingly at apple silicon evolve and I think the M4 Pro MBP this year is the sweet spot. Realistically, I'll likely keep it until M8! To to the average consumer who buys one of these, use it until it it does not want to be used anymore and forget the hype of upgrading every year! PS: Dayo, just subbed.
