Guys, dont be fooled by all youtuber who praise the nanotex. I was testing that side by side with a glare display and exact the same settings and images. If you work with images and nature, paintings or all sort of images, DONT go for nanotex. You lose a lot of color, crispness andclarity. Clouds are often just white areas while the glossy one has much more details. With animals and faces as well. If you have just images with grafik, sharp corners, office work and video watching, the nanotex is ideal and really reduces the mirror effects by sun or lamps

Great review, about time someone did a base model review. I had thought about getting the Pro but decided to use that money on upgrading the memory and storage 24gb/2tb. I had originally planned on a maxed out Air M3, at the time it was only $100 cheaper than the M4 with the same specs, with a better screen, extra ports etc., the choice was a no brainer.

Got myself the base M4. I'll hold out on a Nano display for another couple of generations. I wasn't quite satisfied with it when I saw it in the store, but hoping they will get incrementally better.

If you added up all the upgraded you might as well go with the M4 Pro version since the delta is not the huge, 12 core CPU 24GB memory and 1TB read and write speed is much faster.

yeah that's what i did. While I'm not 100% sure I will need the extra power- id rather err on the side of power and speed. I like the Thunder 5 too- for the same reason

I picked up a refurb M1 Pro 14" MBP in January. It is so crazy fast that I doubt a lot of people will really, really benefit putting out nearly a grand more for a M4 which also has a 1 TB drive.

For me so far the base M4 but with 1TB SSD has easily and snappily handled everything I have thrown at it without issue. So for me, the mid-range base M4 with 16GB is easily the sweet spot. I come from the Windows world, nd I still use a Windows laptop for my work, but my personal machine is now the M4, and I'm so glad I hopped the fence. This thing is a beast, and the battery, build, performance etc. are astounding.

It's a 400$ difference(1400 to 1800) from base to pro. It's a significant gap, but i went with the pro, which is going to serve as a desktop replacement that i will connect to 2 monitors.

I know how convenient Laptops are sometimes and I guess I’m just a Desktop guy but I’ve always thought that it’s a waste of money and effort that a lot of people make when picking the perfect MacBook just to almost never use it as intended primarily but in clamshell mode as a desktop computer… 🤦‍♂️

There’s no reason to recommend the nano texture display unless somebody is using it for graphic work in a very bright area. To make a blanket, generalization recommendation doesn’t make any sense.

After watching so many reviews and comparing the price, I decided to go for the Macbook Pro M3 Pro, I got it refurbished, exactly for the same price but getting a lot more value on performance. If one of you is also doubting about what device to get. Between M4 base or M4 pro I would probably go for the M3 pro. Even for me that I do video editing and Software Development, I probably wont reach the limit of this M3 pro chip on the next 4 years.

I was literally going to do the same, but with Black Friday deals right now, you can get a base M4Pro for cheaper than an M3 pro. $1750 for the better chip and 24g of RAM is a steal IMO

Thank you for the suggestion, I love my M1 MacBook Air, but I made the mistake of not specing it higher than 8 gigs. It’s great for basic tasks but if I want to push it further, I know I can’t with the low Ram so I’ve been heavily considering selling the Air and my PC to cover the majority of this M3 pro MacBook Pro and replace both.

Hear me out. THEY ARE ALL GREAT! I do think the M4Pro is the sweet spot this year tho. If your budget allows, get M4Pro with added ram, performance cores, mem bandwidth Yadda Yadda Yadda.... You get a lot of value in the upgrade with the pro.

Definitely. To put it in context, I’m an engineer that needs significant performance for my side projects, and I was even considering the base M4. If you aren’t editing a lot of videos, or doing some intensive software development the M4 is plenty. TBH you’ll likely be fine with a cheaper MacBook Air if you’re only doing that kind of stuff

I've got me the M4 MB Pro 14" with 48GB UM, 14/20C, 1TB SSD - the fans go crazy when I open Chrome with 5-6 tabs. Safari goes cool, no worries. I'm yet to test the FinalCut Pro and other more important stuff, but I'm disappointed in how Chrome performs (not)...

It depends on what you do with it. Personally I’d say the RAM over the SSD as RAM can’t be extended but SSD can be with external drives. Personally that’s what I’ve gone with - base model bur upgrade to 24GB RAM and stayed with the 512 SSD.

This is definitely the best review I've seen by now. Still, I'd like to share my current situation and would appreciate suggestions. Right now I have a MacBook Air early 2020 intel i5 / 8 GB RAM / 256 GB SSD. I bought it when It came out for simple school tasks and all the online classes needs I had. During quarantine I started coding and as of now I code in Swift with Xcode (iOS apps) and in Dart/Flutter. To be honest, my MacBook has done a really good job, but a new and more powerful machine is what I need now (additionally, I'm entering college next year and might study software engineering or other similar career). I was waiting for the M4 MacBooks to come out but now I'm not sure which model I should buy. I was thinking about the base model with 1 TB storage upgrade, but I've seen lots of reviews saying that the M4 Pro is the best price/quality option; additionally, it may suit better my requirements. In my country, the difference is of around $500 USD (consider 1 TB for both), which I'm not sure if I should pay. Also, I'm thinking of getting the new nano-texture display upgrade.

The nanotex is absolutely beautiful and far better for the eyes and brain health long term. There is very little noticeable difference. The matte-like screen is soothing for the eyes and ideal if you will be using it outdoors or care for your eye health long term. I have a Asus flicker-free/low-blue-light screen with the same matte look, for years no headaches compared to other screens.

Nah although quiete reasonble! i luv my m4 pro baseline macbook more here's why - CHEAPER paid 2029€, much faster cpu & gpu, almost 50% more read &write speed on the ssd but only 512 gb, Thunderbolt 5 (3x faster than 4), 2 fans cooler and quieter gets triggered way less overall Double FPS in Gaming 3D rendering AI / Machine Learning needs lots of data more futureproof ! last but not least MORE RESELL VALUE !

@ it's not colour or texture of screen that makes a machine pro. It's the CPU. Moreover they incorporated a single fan to dissipate the heat, which unsurprisingly, makes a lot of noise because it has to move faster than the one in the regular pro models (pro models have 2 fans). This makes this version nothing more than a marketing gimmick. That's why if any one wants a MacBook with M4 chip, better to wait for MacBook Air M4 instead of spending a lot of money on a false pro model.
