Nice job. I recently cleaned my intake valves on my 335i. Carb cleaner breaks down the carbon buildup. Bunched up cable ties used as a brush inside the intake port. A wet vac to suck out the spent carb cleaner and repeat until clean. A compressor and brake cleaner helps with a final cleanup to finish. Just thought I’d mention that for anyone wanting to do the job cheaper. By the way, I personally prefer your longer videos than just snapshots of jobs.

Great news on smogging Kismet. That really baffled us....what is next for that pretty girl?!! You certainly endeavored to persevere, and I am thrilled. Taking good care of that forty year old lady. Keep in touch. Peace out!

I have done timing belts, timing chains, and everything else on all my cars before. But, shooting walnuts deliberately into my 328xi to clean carbon scares the crap out of me, lol.

Using the spray can intake valve cleaners every 15k miles as maintenance is a good idea once you walnut blast
@DayOffDIY6 ай бұрын
Not a bad idea! Just sneak a straw into the intake charge pipe maybe?

So I have a 2011 335i with the N55. I asked a local shop about doing this and they said I shouldn't need it because that engine uses Valvetronic...?

What year BMW and models would you recommend for reliability for a first time bmw owner ?
@DayOffDIY6 ай бұрын
E36, E46, E39 are all great starter chassis to get into. The M54 is my favorite engine, the N52 is also another reliable blw engine thats easier to work on. both are great options!

i have this car! when do you recommend to do this?
@DayOffDIY6 ай бұрын
Roughly every 60-100k. If you pull the spark plugs and put a boroscope camera down the cylinder you can look for carbon buildup on the back of the valves if the intake valves are open
@DayOffDIY6 ай бұрын
You can also pull the manifold to look
