Deacon and Sarah not falling into each others’s arms in tears makes sense since the colonel is crazy and relationships are forbidden at the base. But would you actually care? Two years, they spent believing their partner was dead. Two fucking years, believing that at best, their partner had starved to death - and at worst their partner had been ripped apart by zombies. On top of that, Deacon and Sarah's is meant to be this grand love story of two lovers tragically split apart; their relationship is meant to be some sort of ideal or something and then they meet up again and just...it falls flat. It's not slowing down the time but subjective feel when you aim or have to do something. Imagine picking a weapon from few weapons you have available: in real life you can just grab it right away but if your movements are limited to pad button there would be plenty of clicking to do that so slowing down time actually increases realism. Having that said game have other unrealistic problems like a magical weapon closet, fully tanked biked running out of fuel after two kilometers or low IQ of human enemies. But its a really good game because what they do right they did so good that you can give them a pass on their weak points.

The motorcycle thing, my headcanon is based on the fact that motorcycles can be super gas efficient so with what little gas is around you can get farther and use them far more than you would be able to a car for off roading. The average Honda Shadow reports getting 30 to 40 MPG(sometimes more) whereas the average truck will get like 1/4th of that. There is also less to maintain and the engines are simpler overall to work on as they are small engines with less complicated mechanics. The average car on the other hand you have 2 more tires to maintain, far more parts to source, a lower gas mileage on average(depending on the car), and several other factors.

@@en3525 Still doesn't really make sense to travel using a louder than a tractor motorbike either, if the zombies are sensitive to sound then there would be a LOT of hordes gathering in the places around bases just like some comics like The Walking Dead showed. a motorbike might not sound loud but thats beucase there's a lot of noise on cities, if you went to a forest and used one you could hear that thing from literally miles away so they cant just let us use a loud bike that attracts zombies and then say we cant use a car for "reasons" and not expect players to take it into consideration when reviewing it, a game is like project either its well planned out or people are gonna see all these wholes which makes it seem worse even if it could have been great because the ones who made it are lazy. Also there are post apocaliptic games out there where you can use cars, if you forgot there are offroad cars out there too so the excuse "roads are destroyed or blocked" isnt a good one either.
@en35253 жыл бұрын
@@xvinis Bro what about the upkeep on a car? besides motorbike there's only bicycles left, there are infected dogs that can outrun a fully upgraded bike Its not that the roads are just destoryed or blocked, the safest way to travel far away from the nests if on the dirt tracks laid out in the map. While a loud bike motor can alert a horde it can run faster than any of the zeeks, besides the runners, but those dont travel with hordes The reason hordes don't attack most of the bases in the game its because its almost impossible and its out of the way of the pheromone laid path they use to go back to hibernating, they go out of the caves for drinking and scavenging food All camps are guarded first by the geography of the land, Copeland's is surrounded by a cliff to the left, a lake to the right, although its one of the weakest camps in term of security Hhot springs is completely surrounded by a lake with fast moving currents, only access if by a bridge they can easily destroy which also bottlenecks all incoming zeeks Lost lake is surrounded by water and a marsh that zombies get stuck in Diamond lake and wizard island are impregnable
@xvinis3 жыл бұрын
@@en3525 Yes but i responded to your comment about the roads, ofc the upkeep of the car is gonna be a problema but thats the complaint the second dude who replied stated, that they could have "explained" it in the game, even by just making a minor character say something about it which could add to the immersion, otherwise there could be people out there using cars, we could even go as far as to say that the only people using cars are the ones with a person who used to be a mechanic to fix them. But i do get your point and if we just keep respoding we would just get into a loop, in the end i'm just gonna state that if they made a game where zombies are sensitive to sound they should have used a bike/car that didnt make much noise and it was something they either didnt care/overlooked and hurts the game when someone reviews it.

I started tackling hordes way early in the game. As soon as I could get distractors, I started working my way through the smaller hordes. You get some awesome weapon unlocks that make Deacon even more of a badass. I honestly enjoyed the simplicity of the story though. Two bros just trying to ride north, knocking out odd jobs until they can get there. Sometimes there doesn't have to be an elaborate reason behind why they want to get away. At times we all want to get away just to experience something different. I think their one thing they focused on was simply the biker culture, so it's not really surprising that they went with a nomadic motive. Which lends even more weight to the fact that Boozer chooses to settle down.
@braidena16332 жыл бұрын
Ah, someone who gets it. The end goal really is getting away, there's nothing bombastic about it, and there doesn't have to be. The setting and general vibe of the game hints at that being the core focus: you're in tourist-trap camping territory, an already slower version of life has slowed down even further with civilization having all but evaporated. It's also a neo-western (imo), so there's themes of loyalty, there's horseback (bike being a stand in), nomadic lifestyle, there's shootouts. There's some similarity to TLOU but one has to remember, this is an open world so there's an expectation one will spend more time in it, become acquainted, just enjoy the scenery, etc. The story isn't really within the cutscenes and general narrative, it's stopping to listen to NPCs talk about their experiences that give the world life. In a sense it's more like ER -- the individual pieces are scattered about and only in living in this world awhile can you start to put everything together.

The bike customisation felt real bland in the late game in terms of components besides the gas tank I think, but there was a decent amount of paints and little decals. The only viable weapons for hordes were automatics since they had the most ammo, almost 10x that of semi auto weapons that could've been fun to use. If they improved on those two in a sequel then I would be happy but sadly we aren't getting it. Additionally you might be able to weave your way out through a crowd of zombies on a bike and it's a lot easier to u-turn in a bike to get away from them quicker than it may be with a car.

The. Fucking. STORY? Why are the missions all just; "Let's go here and grab this which is completely uneventful and ends kinda jarringly prematurely". Like, even the long missions such as the dynamite haul with Skizzo and the power plant clearing with Rikki suck. What do you actually do during them? You go there, clear two nests (you literally clear 6 every small town or even just trailer park you enter), then kill ten Rippers (again, you kill more than that in the roads and in camps), and it's done. Why is that one of the longest missions in the game, one during which we bond with and learn about these characters? Put them in the shit. Kick them down, give us a harsh moment to care about. And I'm not just talking story either, make it gameplay the way The Last of Us did. Remember those whole sections with Bill and Henry? I literally loved having extra survivors with me because it genuinely felt safer that way, even just one or two extra guys. That's because the terrifying shit didn't just happen in cutscenes. It happened in gameplay. The literal only time Days Gone reached such a height was with a side mission. At first I legit thought it was a coincidence due to how seamless it happens, but now I have played through this game three times and can confirm that the same thing happens each time. I think it's in the Militia section of the game. You go rescue this guy in a mine for a bounty (not the drug addict, just some random), and everything goes smoothly. You clear the mine of bandits, and release him. Everything proceeds as usual, you get your mission success and whatnot, yet right as you press them away, you hear that eerie escalating Horde music creep in. For me I immediately used my survivor senses, and about ten meters away tops there comes this entire fucking horde jumping down the mine shaft and running at you. No warning, nothing. And you're stuck in think dark and expansive mine with no clue where to go to get out. It was the one time my heart was fucking racing. Never felt so relieved to see daylight when I got out, something I managed purely because I got a long memory and recognised from which way I came which added another layer of realism to the whole section. I didn't even enter that mine again until my second playthrough. Didn't get the full horde slayer that run just because of how much that affected me. Imagine if the game set up more sections like those. You could easily choose how you wanted to deal with it, same as The Last of Us. In that hotel basement section, you can either set everything up, start the generator, then run right to the door with the card in hand already. You'll never even see the Bloater this way. A single Stalker is the worst you'll get bothered by. Yet they also give you the option to just gun them all down if you feel you're up to it. Same with this mine horde. If you're in NG+ with an MG55 and Chicago Chopper, they aren't that scary anymore. But you don't have to kill them. You can just run. We needed hordes incorporated more into the game like that. As it was, humans were always the threat. Why? Why not the hundreds of swarming sprinting mutated murder machines that wiped out nearly 8 billion people in two years? Why is every zombie section such a pushover? They don't allow you to use a gun when fighting in the mine with Skizzo, and it was still piss easy. Why don't we get a genuinely threatening horde barging in there after Skizzo fired his gun? Or maybe there's one hybernating in the power plant we explore with Rikki. Imagine what they could've done with that. So many missed opportunities.

I personally love this game, I think bend studio for a game made by 50 devs it’s impressive. It’s not perfect and I know it, but not every game has to be a game 10/10 game changer. I don’t want the next half life or gta. I just want a game I can play that works and is fun in its own way. Now I know the problems in this game, human a.I is dumb as hell. And IMO pretty easy to fight in all scenarios, the characters are pretty dumb iron mike for example. But I find the actors managed to act them well to make the characters at least likable. The game isn’t perfect but I give it bend studio for what it is. It’s not bad and I hoped a sequel would address all my issues.

I’m usually a bit surprised by the negative points made in a lot of videos for this game. For me, I was intrigued by how distinct of a character Deacon is. He’s a little unhinged and awkward, but also very competent, dedicated, and loyal. Felt more like the main character of a gritty film or TV show instead of a game, which I thought was a refreshing choice in a video game. Also, I encountered my first horde early on. Maybe it’s just how I play games in general, immersing myself in a slower pace of playing, exploring a lot, that type of thing. So, hordes were a huge part for me for the whole game, making the arc from being helplessly terrified to being eager to take them on was so great-though, admittedly, they’re always terrifying. The strange stiffness of the reunion with Sarah I thought made perfect sense in context. They’re under close watch of an insane, military cult leader who forbids relationships under his rule. Also, the restraint they have to show is compelling in how frustrating it is, robbing you of catharsis and dragging it out. Every so often, Sarah would say something personal and sweet, and it meant so much more because of the strange circumstances. Also, yes the game is long, but I was so in love with a number of the main characters that I was hooked all the way to the end. Yeah, there’s some pretty generic characters throughout, but I thought they were performed in a way that made up for the occasionally poor writing. The story had so much heart, there was a sense of compassion and humanity in the characters. I don’t know. I adored this game. I’ve put more hours into it than some of the “higher end” exclusives. Still love this video and your videos in general, though! Always so well made and entertaining.

I'm probably the minority here but I find the Sarah and Deacon reaction believeable because they're in disbelief that they're alive and well. Also, Sarah is working for the leader of the militia group and knows how serious he is that she doesn't want to expose Deacon as his love interest because it's been established that the militia leader wants you to leave the past behind and so destroying his code would mean you're not fit for the group and can more likely be exterminated. So overall, I find myself emotionally conflicted but I understand why Sarah reacted that way. Also SPOILERS The game did hint a more I Am Legend route where the zombies have conscious and in the secret ending, the scientist guy is already infected and has gain a conscious and warned Deacon that the worst is yet to come setting up the sequel. Speaking of hordes, you can go and kill hordes in-between the storylines to build up some skill points and currency to build up your status with your camp. I do agree this game needs improvement and I hope that this game gets a sequel cause it deserves one.

Honestly Deacon is an MC Nomad he kind of has a reason to be mad, right before the outbreak he was distant from his friends. And when you start off at the beginning, Deacon’s wife is dead, his friend is basically bedridden and loses his arm. Deacon is kind of a good character. Also when Deacon first found his wife again it makes sense they were both apart from each other for 2 years and Sarah got attached to the Militia. And Deacon has a line about how many people were in prison before the outbreak so a crazy cult makes sense. There is a after story mission about how the virus is evolving from O’Brian and he was nervous because he was first a grad student and then a hidden inflected person who was being threatened by a man who he probably thought was dead. The after game hordes is so you have something to do with the game afterwards. The game has its problems but it is also so fun

Choppers are some of the worst gas-guzzlers in the motorcycle industry with sometimes intentionally outdated parts for the sake of tradition (looking at you, Harley Davidson). Dirt bikes with engines as small as 150cc are infinitely more valuable in any apocalypse situation. 3-5x more gas efficient than choppers these days, generally built to be actually silent, easy to repair, light, is actually suitable for all terrains. @@19thratytt never mentioned a car anywhere in that whole paragraph but yes. There are many different motorcycles, however the best bikes for a post-apocalyptic world is the dirt bike/dual sport. I tired so hard to get into this game but I really couldn't. Hearing you express your opinions on it also made me realize some of the main reasons why I couldn't get into it like that.

I enjoyed the game quite a lot actually. It was pretty fun game to play throughout the story, at least to me. My only problem was first 8-10 hours, which are boring af, I had to push myself through that because I could see the game will become much better later.

Me too. I quit playing. Just didn’t care about having to find gas and parts for the bike.

I honestly loved this game . And it makes sense to me that the whole story isn’t filled with hordes because they wanted you to kill all the hordes after the game , plus it might have gotten stale in the story .

honestly one of the best games i've played last year. i loved the story and the setting. and i have never ever played anything like fighting the hoards.

Just love how the quality control team on PS has 20 people and the PC version had 3... In the end screen you and Sarah just ride into a tunnel that had a huge barricade, you ride straight into it like you're ghosts. After the reapers attack there are 3 npcs sleeping on burned furniture, one is sleeping inside a sink :)). Love having Deek, Iron Mike and a Nero recording playing at the same time. Amazing to press E to get on the bike and wait for 40 seconds with Deek doing circles around it

bikes are a great apocalypse vehicle, low fuel cost, high speed, high maneuverability, even if they are loud you out run anything and get you through tight spaces

I thought the “reveal” with Sarah was great. You can feel the tension between the characters along with the restraint Deacon & Sarah had to muster due to the environment of the camp they’re in. Wizard Island is the military culture turned up to the max thanks to Col Garret. Fraternization is an important “line” that officers (Sarah) and enlisted (Deacon) personnel have to respect. Sarah is aware of how crazy Col Garret is with how he’s leading the camp and Deacon is using his prior-military situational awareness to hide the feelings they’re feeling during the initial reunion. Kinda corny but well thought-out scene in my opinion. Great video aside!

I loved how I wanted to actually clear each horde and build my bike. I wanted to play the game until the end. Plus I love seeing Starkiller fighting Zombies

I'll admit this game is kinda mid in the grand scheme of things, but goddamn do I love it so much. I find the characters okay, I love the bike, the hordes, the atmosphere, and without being too melodramatic the whole finding Sarah plotline came at a great time for me when I was going through a wild situation with my ex at the time lmao

Mid? 😂 its up there with The Last of Us
@Austin-l1j Жыл бұрын
The character are well fleshed out and they are all memorable for the most part. Which is hard to do especially because the game does have a large amount of characters. It is not a mid game at all in the grand scheme of things, if you invest time into the game and listen to the little story ques about the infected it’s very intriguing. Sure there were some tropes but they still had a different twist on them that made them appealing. The only thing the game lacked was enticing side mission storylines.
