its a testament to the prowess of the game. you cant really sell a msytery game without spoiling, so most of the times, unless its one in the million fluke, word of mouth is the only way a game like that can get experienced by more people. and everyone who has completed it loves it iMo and reccomends it to otehrs as well

@m0rianne What a dumb take to dismiss a game on. It is not a game where a high refresh rate matters or is even noticeable. I am quite sensitive to low refresh rates after playing on 144hz but it mattered so little that I had to boot up the game to confirm if the FPS was even capped because I did not notice it after 30 hours of playtime. It is not a fast paced game, 60FPS does not detract from the gameplay in any way

This is the best game I have ever played. Before playing it, I thought nothing could beat Portal 2. I jokingly tell people that I lost my fear of getting Azlheimers, because in my wild dumbest fantasy, at least I would be able to play this over and over and get absolutely baffled by the story again and again. This was the last game I cried to, and before that, it was Portal 2's turret opera. I sadly believe that it will take a long time before some other game makes me feel that way.

I was expecting a video on this game from you tbh. I knew you'd like it. Started some time back and you were spot-on with how anxious this game makes you feel. Every single planet I was on I felt real fear of the unknown, especially not fully being in control of my movements in the ship or whether in low grav. So much so that I was afraid to go out and explore. Dying again and again also made me rush things a bit to make sure I don't lose the progress I made getting to a specific place (like the Sunless City, or waiting for all the Ash to transfer between the twins, getting eaten by Anglerfish, etc). But the story behind it all is so intricately crafted and deep I could not stop thinking about it even when I wasn't playing. You're right about this not being a game.. it really is an experience.

Thinking about it, one way they could've made the game 10 times more cozy was to add a hammock inside the ship. Just imagine taking a snooze while the wind howls and waves crash outside, or while space rocks cripple the surface above.

I have been desperately trying to get into this game for about half a year now, but I think this video made me realize I need to rethink my approach. I kinda got the whole time loop/exploding sun stuff spoiled for me thanks to a Nintendo Direct trailer so I went into the game immediately just trying to solve those and getting really infuriated trying to do so. I think after watching this video I really realized the value of going into it completely blind, as it seems like that initial spark from those realizations makes the player get into a far more explorative mind space. Maybe I just need to vibe in space and explore everything the game has to offer instead of trying to force a linear experience. Cheers for another amazing video, I will definitely hop back into this game now after almost giving up on it!
@JackSather2 жыл бұрын
Yep, i did a very similar thing, i like to just beat a linear story, but outer wilds kinda forces you to slow down by making you realize your curiosity is what’s gonna move you forward, not story beats and reaching the next checkpoint

It's definitely not a linear "go here and do this" experience, in fact, it's the polar opposite. If you're naturally curious and enjoy free-form exploration, you're going to absolutely love the game, but people expecting constant handholding are going to be very frustrated.

Outer Wilds was one of the most trippy games I had ever played in many years and gave me that edge of tomorrow vibe or groundhog day vibe. I have been trying to convince my friends to play this game and they kept saying, "that new game made by obsidian? Uuuuh no." I was bothering my brother instead to play it for about a year. He kept on dwelling on it until one day he finally played it and now he's hooked even though when he first played it he was talking shit about it and then he finally stopped. I am grateful for this game and it's sad that it's such an underrated game and I want to play that new dlc that just came out. Fingers crossed for a sequel or something made by the same people.

Hey Jack, don’t know if you still read the comments on this one but just wanted to let you know I gave this game another chance because of your video and HOLY SHIT IT’S SO GOOD!!! I was initially trying to force a linear experience but once I learned to just explore, really read the texts, and use the ship log to its fullest (rumor mode is a godsend), I learned that this game is not only so much bigger than I initially thought, but is an emotional roller coaster for the eyes, ears, and MIND. If someone else is struggling to get into this as I once was, I would say explore all of Timber Hearth and the Attlerock first and then follow the breadcrumbs on the ship log’s rumor mode to get on your adventure. And seriously, read EVERYTHING, especially if it’s orange text in the dialogue boxes. If you skim, you’re gonna miss out and be super confused. Anyway, thank you Jack for getting me to get into what is now one of my absolute favorite games ever.

Jack, you're one of the best video game channels out there. I could hear you review anything you have the passion for. TV, movies, and of course games. Keep it up dude, and thanks a ton

I’ve watched your videos since your Red Dead Online review. It’s been awesome to see you grow and your videos are some of my all time favorites on KZbin! Keep it up and glad you’re talking about Outer Wilds!Very underrated game imo.

I spent one loop just sitting on top of my ship, parked at the edge of the system, waiting for the end of _everything._ It's a 10/10 from me. Hits right in the fee-fee's. Also: even better in VR.

I'm just going to say that I've watched this for the 4th time now and every time it's just as good. Your video production quality and the way you tell stories, edit it all - it's just gorgeous. This is just such a great place to come back to!

Extremely fascinating thought with the OST having "three distinct voices". Had never considered that, but I entirely agree. Fantastic video, can't wait to see more from you.

The OST for this game makes me so happy and warm inside no matter how craptastic my day might be going. It has the same effect as the theme for The Office or Parks and Rec in the sense that hearing them is like a warm blanket for the soul.
