Hi friends! For context, this is just the final two laps of 8 laps in the CMRA Novice Heavyweight Twins class and was my 5th race that weekend. It was a new track for me and I was able to do a trackday the Friday before the race weekend to learn the track (it was definitely a struggle). I had a horrible start at the race and went from P2 to P6 and spent the first few laps reeling in the P1 rider. I think he was aware that I was there because the RC8C is *SO LOUD* (as I've been told by many other riders on track with me). I noticed his line becoming more defensive/aggressive so I gave some space to try and figure out a clean pass. I confirmed that he is OK and is recovering. I'm just glad that the other rider was okay and was able to keep the bike up! As always, thanks so much for watching. Please be sure to Like and Subscribe so we can share more track/racing content on KZbin and it isn't just squidding on the streets!

Saw that coming from a mile away 😂 congrats on p1

thanks Joppe, I only shared the last two laps but the ones before were similar enough to make me hesitate and ease off until I had a clearer opportunity. One thing I caught myself doing was getting frustrated and trying to go up on the inside, but then I would compromise my line and drive and end up losing tons of speed and drive. The other thing was, I nearly target fixated into the incident myself. That would have been dumbbb. Thanks again!

@@vtranmoto yeah, you know what they say. First you need to start, second you need to finish, then you can start worrying about placement..

@@vtranmoto you can drastically improve roll speed by turning in later and making your turns more of a DECISION. This way you get the bike turned earlier and then can accelerate through the rest of the corner instead of ending up a bit wide and having to wait to go from maintenance to drive. It's not easy to do and requires that you have clearly defined points for brake, apex and exit. Get a map of the track and walk it backwards to start really dialing this in.

@@BrianEvansracer thank you! That makes a lot of sense. Will apply that approach!

The lines and body position had disaster written all over it. Glad no one was hurt

Yeah definitely, by that time it was my 5th race and it was 100F/38C+ so I think the fatigue was starting to kick in and lots of riders were getting more aggressive and making compromises. Luckily no serious injuries and the other rider was able to keep the bike up.

I'd say this looks more like P2 rider was playing a game of chicken with a blind person lol. Gotta get ahead of rider in front of you enough for him to see you in order to even attempt to make a pass like this safely. I did something similar last time out at Katy when attempting to pass MJ into bus stop before carousel, except I went on the outside of MJ as he wouldn't have seen me in time to be able to maneuver or brake in time to avoid a collision. Needless to say I did make the pass on MJ going into bus stop, but since was carrying more speed going in than normal I couldn't slow down in time to stay on the raceline, and MJ passed me right back lol.. Glad both riders weren't seriously injured but I hope this was a huge lesson to P2 rider. Instead of a podium finish he crashed out and now has to spend money to fix his bike.

thank you thank you! Happy to say I've won every heavyweight twins class race I've been able to participate in. Its a strange mix of bikes for our local series. But as you can see, the racing can be pretty intense/fun.

Well, that was the bone head move of the race.

He's charging the corners, which sends him wide, right into the lead rider. No good!

is pass in corners normal? in cycling races its typically a no no
@vtranmoto2 жыл бұрын
Awesome question! Passing at the start of a corner is pretty normal, such as outbraking an opponent. The other (safer) way of pacing someone slower than you is having a better corner exit speed then you can overtake them (you can see I try this 00:10 in the video, but the guy is starting to get pretty aggressive already, so I back off and wait for a different opportunity) . Passing DURING the corner itself requires a lot more speed to overtake the other person and can be more unsafe.

Missed the apex and had a complete lack of control. Stick a permanent orange bib on him and put him on a 125.

@@vtranmoto He almost took you out too at :12 with that overly defensive tight entry, wide at mid-corner and try to bring it back line. I was screaming at the screen to go in wide and finish more at the inside to get around this kind of rider but the issue took care of itself. As fast as you caught back up after that shift error you had the measure of both these guys regardless. Good riding!

@@smoke05s thank you! Mid-race like lap 5 or so I realized I was starting to target fixate and make a lot of compromises to my line as well! Good point, I can try the maneuver/approach you recommended in the future!
