Shrek 5 Is Real. Here's How To Do It Justice...

From the mouth of the actor itself, it seems Eddie Murphy has some animated movie news for us as Shrek 5 has begun production, and a Donkey Movie is also in existence. With DreamWorks going through some... interesting times right now, I am cautiously intrigued to see whether this is news we even WANT to hear. With a predicted release of 2025, Shrek 5 seems to be coming close! And with no plot details on the Donkey Movie I... have my reservations. And only a couple of ways I could see the show going well. So come join our discussions into the pitch for future Shrek Movies, hopefully being a revival era for DreamWorks. Or worst case scenario, it loops back to a Peacock Series like the bad ending Megamind seems to have faced...

Just like Puss in Boots 2 (a sequel to a forgotten mediocre movie from over a decade ago) sounded awful at first, and then became one of the best animated films of the 21st century. Who knows? Then when she finds out Donkey talks back, she's delighted but, as he opens up to her, she realises she didn't want him to talk back. She becomes cranky and hates him until one day, she sees the poster telling her to sell him.

I know a lot of people will label this film as a cash grab similar to Toy Story 5, but honestly this franchise has huge potential for a continuation just from where the third and fourth films left off there’s so many story threads to explore, such as: How Far Far Away will change now that Arthur has become the king, How everyone is gonna react to how most of the villains decided to turn good at the end of the third movie, Puss, Kitty, and Perrito coming back to Far Far Away after the events of the last wish and perhaps Puss and Kitty will get married for real, plus the biggest potential the Triplets. The triplets never even spoke in the films they were in so they’re all clean slates that the writers (creative and competent) writers can turn into whatever they want, they can write three new characters as they explore this changed world post the previous four films, plus the relationship of the triplets with Donkey’s kids as we don’t know if the dronkeys will be nonverbal like their mom or will have talking voices like their dad. And I guess they could try and give Charming an ending, at the end of the third film we was just defeated so he could team up with a bigger villain or we can just see him get arrested like Rumpelstisken (I don’t know how to spell that) in the fourth film, but that’s probably the least exciting thing that they could do but we never know. After all Puss in Boots 2 was great. So they’re a lot of directions they could go if they get a good and creative team of writers and directors together

Okay legit the idea of a Donkey movie being him and Pinocchio discovering he was a boy from Pleasure Island who was turned into a Donkey is actually amazing. It's dark, it's clever world and character building and best of all it's yet another perfect opportunity to take pot shots at Disney and their version of Pinocchio. It's even got the line-up of three separate antagonists like The Last Wish, the fox guy whose named escapes me right now, the big greedy showman guy whose name also escapes me right now and Monstro (can't forget that whale!).

I think that a Donkey movie sounds like a horrible idea, but who knows, maybe they could make something amazing. Puss in Boots, and it's sequel also sounded like a bad idea, but Puss in Boots 2 proved that as long as they have ambitious and talented people working on this film that you can make a good film about any character.

Dragon and donkey movie could be done so well, and I don't necessarily mean their family matters. I feel like they've been building up to something bigger since Shrek 2 or possibly even Shrek 1, there's so many little things (I'm sorry I can't remember any in particularly but I went DEEP down that rabbit hole 3 years ago), however from very small details I've noticed especially in their first appearance, I've realised recently donkey and dragon could make a very suprisingly respectful, mature and just good Trans subplot (I am COMPLETELY serious)

Don't really care rn since Shrek 5 is confirmed to be a reboot so the donkey movie will likely take place in the rebooted universe. The whole thing that made shrek special was that it was a subversion of typical fairy tale tropes, but nowadays you have tons and tons of stories that do the same thing, either following or subverting tropes, or subverting the subversions. Shrek is very much so a product of its time, I don't think it really has a place in modern cinema outside of the memes.

The reason why standalone movies with a side character doesn’t work is because they’re not around with the main characters that makes the comedy gold. Donkey will probably be with characters that nobody will care about. Chemistry will be off.

Toystory 4 is a bad Toystory movie in my opinion. It has low stakes and it’s just not as grand as the first 3 movies. It feels like an episode of a tv show. If it was an episode of a Toystory show I wouldn’t have any problem with it because we would be able to have Bo and Woody bond more.

My head cannon for Shrek is that 4 is 2 and a half and that if u look at the 4th movie as a part 2 of the second movie it looks a lot better. 3 would be ur conclusion setting up an actual 4th movie with the kids as teenagers and Shrek finally realizing he Dosent need anything else after a road trip to find donkey. my biggest concern with a donkey movie is that the track record for comic relief characters getting their own spin-offs has never been the greatest, at least with puss he was still treated as a character but past the first shrek movie donkey was purely comic relief with occasional moments in shrek forever after, let's not forget how often comic reliefs have been used as main characters and those things ended up completely falling on their faces Planet Sheen Minions Scrat Tales Cars 2 the Patrick Star show Sam and Cat (good god why does nickelodeon do so many of these) I'm not saying it hasn't worked but the track record isn't the greatest

I have to agree about a Donkey solo movie being a rough sell as it gives me Cars 2 vibes where they take the side character and make them the star of a movie despite their characters not being built for that.
