Olaf Lesniak If comic bock were movies, tv shows, books or even mangas I would totally agree with you because there's supposed to be an evolution in the story(and characters) so that it may have an ending. The disadvantage of DC(and even Marvel) is that they can't risk to evolve the characters too much because in the long run we would get bored of them. Example: if we were to have a super epic reveal of who the Joker is, eventually we would loose interest in the joker because we would already know everything there is to know about him, and this is a big problem because one of the things that makes the him the joker is that his origin is ambiguous(in batman's case the problem in character development is that he would eventually make peace with his parents' death). I think what scott snyder has done with "the new origin" is good enough to me for a while

+Colin Keiser Yes, Rebirth technically fixes some problems from the New 52 continuity, plus they're also bringing back some classic DC characters who were not present in New 52. If you want to start getting into DC Comics now (and if you also want to be more up to date in terms of story and everything), you might want to start with Geoff Johns's Justice League from New 52, or Scott Snyder's Batman (starting with Batman: The Court of Owls), which may be the best comic book run in New 52.

Rebirth isn't so much restarting the universe as much as it is bring the crazy array of things together back to a solid foundation. So pre New 52 elements will be returning, but the New 52 won't be ignored. It'll be integrated into the older stuff. It's like the Old DCU and the New 52 are being blended.

Around this time Superman was blowing away galaxies with sneezes and batman was pretty campy like his Adam west version Post Crisis is the most longest and well known. This is the universe where stories like Hush, Infinite Crisis, etc took place. Flash point is the event that led to the new 52 the current DC universe that made Aquaman cool and had the jl be formed to take on darkseid. So when they say pre flash point they mean the post crisis universe Pre Flashpoint means new 52

So essentially what rebirth is, is getting back to the core elements of the characters. Still have the parts of the New 52 but get back parts that may have disappeared since the reboot. It's like what we had with Green Lantern and Flash, they were retellings of the same stories that we know and love but little gestures of what the character is going to be soon. We got back Barry Allen in Flash rebirth. We got back Hal Jordan in Green Lantern Rebirth. So we will probably getting back characters that we probably lost before the New 52 and given some new gestures to whom they could be someday. Possibly also losing a character to start an event.
