I believe this might actually be DCU considering Sgt. Rock just appeared in Creature Commandos and he is getting a movie, and we know Clayface is in Creature Commandos too and now he is also getting a movie, and considering the fact that Gunn called this first part of the DCU "Gods and Monsters", making a Clayface movie within the DCU would probably fit very well.

I think we are so conditioned for the Marvel style of establishing a cinematic universe with the big most popular characters first and leading into a team up movie that what DC is doing seems odd, but I think it’s the opposite. James Gunn is attracting top tier writers and directors to projects they wouldn’t normally take by appealing to their strengths, and sometimes that might mean lesser known characters that aren’t Batman, Superman, Flash etc. Mike Flanagan is an amazing creative in the horror space, Midnight Mass is one of the best written horror tv shows I’ve ever seen. DC gettting him for anything, especially an interesting body horror character like Clayface is a big win

There's this one movie Mike Flanagan did that used to be on Netflix. "Hush." It's a great movie, and other projects he has done were great. I don't know how I feel about a Clayface movie, but as long as Mike Flanagan is writing it, I'm on board.

I rewatched Batman: The Animated Series earlier this year. As much as fans tout how great the Joker was, and I loved him too, what became my favorite villain in the entire series was not him, Two Face, Ra’s al Ghul, or Mr. Freeze, but it was Clayface. His origin and storyline were so complex and brilliantly written.

I generally find that Batman villains work best as funhouse mirrors to Batman himself. However, Clayface - while a great mirror to Batman's identity struggles - is one that (honestly either version) could work well enough outside of that context to be worthwhile making a standalone movie about, in or outside of the DCU.

I fell in love with the Clayface character from watching the 90's Batman Animated Series. I've always known about him, but it wasn't until then that I took him as a serious threat. This film comes a total surprise to me, but I'm so looking forward to it... I can't wait to see the trailer next year. Let's hope it doesn't end up like one of Sony's Spider-verse film failures.

The short trailer should be…… well if you remembered Batman the animated series have him in the audience of a talk show in the form of a old woman, then have the host ask the maker of that putty…questions……then the host goes to audience questions………then that old lady ask a lot of side effect questions……..then when the maker denies everything…….then the old lady slowly and disgustingly morphs into clay face saying WHAT ABOUT ME!!!!……then the whole movie writes itself😊

I think if this is how he introduces the DCU's Batman, it might be an interesting concept. Like Clayface is the main character for this movie & Batman is chasing him down, basically Batman is the antagonist of the film even though Clayface is a villain. Gunn just recently said again, he's not doing origins on Superman & Batman, so maybe this is how he might introduce Batman? And if Clayface is just an elseworld's movie, then that's fine too I guess.

I’m putting it out into the universe. The story of Clayface alone is a beautiful tragedy (best tragedy story in DCU) it needs to be put on live-action cinematic display and it would make a perfect installment to the DCU. Penguin was epic and I am expecting the same from a Clayface live action film. It does need to stay in Gotham (or Gotham-like setting) and it must be in the golden age of film (maybe the 50’s,60’s’,70’s). My only concern is do they dedicate one actor to the role or a voiceover for Clayface/ another actor to play Basil Karlo?

Hmm, that’s an interesting choice, especially if it’s not in the DCU proper, but like John said I’m really excited at the idea of DC and Marvel finally working up the courage to not have everything take place within a shared universe, because now it opens up the door for movie ideas that you couldn’t do *because* it’s a shared universe, like a Superman Red Son, Gotham By Gaslight, or maybe even DCeased (I would absolutely love that, it’s 1 of my favorite DC comics stories) I will admit that Clayface is a Batman villain that I’m a little more unfamiliar with but if James Gunn, the director of Slither and producer or Brightburn of all people says he can make a story like this into a horror/tragedy I think that sounds like a super cool idea

Yeah, i didnt know Dr. sleep was a Shining Sequel till summer '22 Then i rushed to watch it and overall, i was like... That was so much better than i could have asked for! Now.... When i heard about this Clayface movie i was like cool! Then i heard its gonna be directed by Flanagan i was like WHAAAAT?! OH YEAH! Then heard hes not and but writing and producing, then excitement balloon was deflated just a bit. Then im like wait.... They didnt say hes not directing it either though so.... I was like Lloyd in Dumb & Dumber.... So youre telling me theres a Chance? Gunn has stated that every movie and show will be a different tone so if you go to metropolis it’ll be brighter and not all dark and if you got to Gotham it will be darker tone bc of the city and the villains so with creature commandos it a rated R adult animated show so it was gonna be dark

The multiverse saga is working and has worked. Most of the mcu movies and other projects after endgame have been hits,not missess when it comes to box office and viewership and on average most got positive rt scores from critics and audiences. So deadpool saying the mcu has been miss after miss is just copying what certain youtubers(grifters) was saying and of course they are wrong.Then you have nicepool who disagree with deadpool. Let's keep it mind from phase 1 to 3 projects like ironfist and inhumans came out and folks even back then talking about comicbook fatigue and marvel is losing it's touch etc.. and that's non-sense and of course that was not the case. Most mcu multiverse projects in phase 4 and 5 have been successful,from the last spiderman mcu movie,to doctor strange 2,to loki seasons 1 and 2,what if and deadpool and wolverine all done well. The only multiverse project to flop and get a rotten critic score (audience scores was really high but the cinemascore was a B)and to flop was ant-man 3 and even that made it's money back later that year after it left the big screen. Most of phase 4 and 5 are not multiverse projects anyway just like most projects from phase 1 to 3 were not dealing with the infinity stones. Most of the marvels movie is not multiverse and when they did show it was a end credit scene.

The flops the mcu had is incredible hulk box office in phase 1,eternals in phase 4 and ant-man 3 and the marvels in phase 5. Eternals came out during covid and not playing in china. Black widow flopped on the big screen and it came out when covid was happening and not shown in china as well but made up for it on disney plus so the movie overall did not flop. Ant-man 3 made it's money back and the marvels and eternals was watch alot on disney plus.The mcu will make it's money back for the marvels this year or has done so already. The marvels came out doing a strike by the way so they could not do more marketing before the movie came out. The mcu also made it's money back for the other flops too.

Phase 4 was never going to make has much money on average has phase 3. Here are some reasons. It's almost really starting over phase,there are alot new heroes,new story arc set-up,plus china was out of the picture for awhile and it box-office needs to be build back up and there is russia out the picture now and viewer habits change because of covid. Superhero tv shows these days no matter good will not get the audience like they have in the past plus disney mcu shows have done better on average then the competition and overall are doing good enough plus they will never the get audience like the movies,now over time more folks will go back to watch those shows for those who have not watch,most,some etc..

The difference is the talent behind all of these projects. Sony was making those movies because they had to, not because there was a good script or an actual vision. Gunn is willing to greenlight any project as long as there's a solid script and visionary director behind it. And if there isnt, he'll sit on it, even if it's characters like Batman or Wonder Woman.

I have no reason to think this movie won’t be good but that doesn’t change the fact that I think this is a mistake this early in your universe. Everyone crying that we’re conditioned by Marvel and blah blah blah, what % of the movie going audience has the faintest clue who Clayface is? And for the few that do, how many of them will truly be interested in seeing a Clayface movie that has nothing to do with Batman? Every iteration we’ve seen of this has been a failure, both Joker movies and the live action Spiderverse. “How can the first Joker be a failure?” Because it completely missed what the entire point of the Joker was and even the director couldn’t believe how the audience could misunderstand it so much. That’s what Joker 2 was all about, calling the fans that took the wrong messages from the first movie dumb and laughing in their face. The only reasons it made that money was because the Joker is the most well known comic villain, it had Joaquin at his very best and because of bunch of psychos went into it hoping the movie would make them feel accepted. Mike has done great stuff and I’m all for Elseworlds films.. AFTER you build back the rapport that you’ve spent a decade losing if you’re DC.

I think this is honestly a valid concern as I am honestly scared of the same thing happening, but at the end of the day it is going to come down to the marketing and the content actually being well written since audience word of mouth is a HUGE impact on the box office and all that stuff. In my opinion, this entire universe is hinging on Superman being good and successful, because if they can't even do superman right to start off the universe, then it will be dead in the water.
