Honestly Thor vs Darkseid would be great because, and get ready for this The New Gods WERE FROM MARVEL! Jack Kirby’s idea was the New Gods came after Ragnarock, and the reason they used boomtubes was to get from the marvel universe to the DC universe. While that idea never panned out, new god writers later did respect Kirby’s vision by having the gods before the New Gods he Lokee and Wodan, corrupted versions of Loki and Wotan, AKA, Odin. Hell they even reference ‘The strongest god, the god of hammers’ as who broke the world and split it in two! So yeah, man… Thor vs Darkseid would be awesome.

@velemamba2602 ай бұрын
This was a really fun episode! And it also inspired me to think about how cool throwing Superman and his stuff into the mix with Galactus could be. You mentioned Brainiac and there's a couple ways I think you could go with it. First and maybe most obvious is you make him a herald. Brainiac is going around picking planets, and he gets to take one city before Galactus shows up. Or if you want to get crazy with it, have the presence of Galactus make Brainiac a full on good guy. He's collecting cities from planets he knows Galactus is going to in an attempt to preserve something of them before they're gone forever. And the gang talked a lot about all the parellels between Superman and Galactus. I feel like there's a story somewherein there about Superman becoming or being a herald himself. I can just picture how it'd go too. Since Galactus' heralds all have sort of elemenally themed powers, Clark's could be light/fire. And when he's transformed Galactus could say something like; "GONE is Clark Kent of Earth. GONE is Kal-El of Krypton. Now there is only... THE LAST SUN!"

Speaking of Orion I was really liked how in Young Justice they had Orion as effectively autistic and that's why he struggles to communicate well, his emotional reactions are unpredictable to others, he prefers to precisely follow rules, and he likes the repetitive pinging from mother box. Very unusual interpretation but one that mostly fits with the character.

Re: the point about The Eternals not really fitting in Marvel cosmology. Jack Kirby created the Eternals, Deviants, and Celestials for the Eternals comic, and the original run was not written to be set in the Marvel universe. It became retroactively a part of continuinity (although certain parts don't really line up) when the Eternals and their city came up in other comics after that original series finished.

So in an old New Gods book there was an issue where Orion finds an old relic of the old gods, and even shows panels similar to an issue of Thor. Originally Kirby wanted to kill Asgard and all of it's people and have Ragnarok happen. The first page of Orion's original book showed scenes of the Thor book. So essentially in the mind of Kirby the Third World was Asgard and Marvel's Thor etc. Then Ragnarok happened and what remained was New Genesis and Apokolips. I always found that idea quite fun.

The Apokalips precursor people are Asguardians! In all but name at least. Kirby wanted to end his run on Thor with Ragnarok, and the death of all the gods. Of course Marvel didn't allow him to kill them off. But his origin story for the New Gods, and what makes them "new", is that they're replacing the old gods who died in, essentially, Ragnarok! Kirby's old gods are the Asguardians, so super cool to see some of that connection in the art of this book.

Pretty sure the creator of Thanos has said that he was a pastiche of darkseid, and when he was creating the artwork for him Stan lee said something to the effect of "if you are going to rip him off, you might as well lean into it". The line about Thanos being a pale imitation from marvel versus DC was likely a sly nod to this fact. Though of course, I'd say that Thanos is his own character because he's not really like darkseid but it took until the Jim starling books for this to really be the case.

I have no proof of this, but I feel like Jack Kirby wanted to have Asgard, and all its characters be killed off in a massive Ragnarök type of battle. So, that from the ashes of Asgard could rise the New Gods of New Genesis and Apokolips, which would then allow for the Asgardians to return at some later date as the Celestials to judge the New Gods who replaced them. I sort of feel like that might've been what Jack Kirby was building too but going to DC and then back to Marvel essentially forced him to get creative on how he told that story.
