Sure if you ignore the action parts of the two cameras (that ride footage was so soft on the iphone from its "VR" system struggling to handle it). Also the gopro is like $400 vs the $1400 iphone....I would rather risk the gopro getting destroyed from water or being dropped or whatever over the overpriced phone.

My iPhones 8, 11, 12 Pro & Mini have also been in sea water hundreds of times, and I’m basically use them instead of GoPro in the sea, still all of them perfectly fine! Cheers, great video, you went through everything!

Great review! The GoPro looks like it has a little more dynamic range and detail. You can notice that in the clouds and and on your skin with the shadows. For some reason it looks like the iPhone has a little smoothing effect applied to it, but that might be because of the 0.5x lens vs the 1x lens.

It's because the main camera of the iphone has the better lens but that makes it way too standard FOV to compete with the gopro.

The action mode looks really bad, I'd probably just stick with the normal mode. Stabilization might suffer a lot but I'm sure it would look much better. Taking a 1500$ iPhone mountain biking isn't exactly a good idea anyway.

The commitment always amazes me. That cold plunge 😂 I'm surprised by how mushy the image looks on the iPhone vs the GoPro. I'd be curious to see if that's image quality or if it's 100% post-processing. I suspect at least part of it is post-processing, the GoPro looks like it has more sharpening, clarity, and contrast applied. I'd be curious to see a comparison of raw files and footage post processed to look as similar as possible.

I always thought GoPro's image stabilization was based on its accelerometer data, but it appears to be imagery-based as well. It's much better during daytime than at night (e.g., when you were chasing the biker). The iPhone had much better visibility at night, and better stabilization then as well. Interesting comparison--nicely done.

First, outstanding presentation. You're my first "Subscribe" hit while laughing (felt like an AGT judge smashing the glitter button). Second, I wish I'd googled "compare iPhone 15 to GoPro" three hours ago, it would have saved me way too many rabbit holes because... Third, this video and the iPhone 15 I just bought saved me $500+ since not only does the 15 compare surprisingly well against the GoPro, it beats it hands down in several instances (both audio and video). Now all I have to do is find the accessories for handle mount and underwater diving before I leave in five days.

Excellent Review Ray! As with last year, I am impressed by the capabilities of the iPhone. As the device that is with most people most of the time it is more than a match for the GoPro. The only issue is that the iPhone can be x3 the price of the GoPro depeding on configuration and for that reason alone I will use the GoPro (or another action camera) when things gets really hairy!

The GoPro is a dedicated camera while the iPhone has a camera in addition to all the other functions. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages and the iPhone is certainly better in low light conditions. The iPhone seemed strangely out of focus in some sequences and I have a suspicion that there is probably something that could be adjusted in the settings to correct this. It would be interesting to see how the iPhone Pro stacks up against the GoPro. While the GoPro is very good, the iPhone is certainly capable of very similar results with a bit of fiddling with the settings.

😂 - Yeah, I'd say the Hero 11/12 are massive upgrades from the Hero 7, especially in the stabilization department, but also resolution and clarity. Low-light kinda so-so.
