A quick run down of the techniques and considerations for planning and conducting a long range movement and attack (Deep Attack) with helicopters. Can be used as the basis for creating missions in DCS such as attacks but also supporting them with fixed wing assets or support with CSAR helicopters.

One thing that’s commonly missed (by me) in DCS mission development and published missions, is the fact intel never knows everything and that what it does know, may not be accurate. You can see this in KZbin missions where everyone knows where every surface to air threat and enemy location ( more so with certain online groups), on top of that, another common defector in some of these groups is the mission developer tends to be flight/element lead and therefore has a conscious and subconscious favourable bias. I have no idea why I’m mentioning this on your channel, but hopefully people will take note and realise that nasty surprises adds to the fun.

Yep. My thoughts are big systems we have a pretty good idea where they are but small ones are just “out there”. We know the region but not the actual location. A good point.

That happens when you don't simulate reconaissance. A good thing to see the KW coming. At least the Viggen does have some ELINT already and the Tomcat should get the TARPS pod still, but usually there's either a briefing with exact locations and what to expect, maybe even pictures taken by the mission creator on F11 or just the usual "You got your waypoints, this and that are your target areas, they might have defence. Good luck!"

This comment is the truth. My guess is its the magical F10 map that people think is a reflection of real life. There is no magical F10 IRL. Just lines in a database entered in by people of varying levels of competence. And those lines of data may become points on a screen if your unit had the funding to get that screen, and maintenance didn't drop the ball on keeping it working, and the connection wasn't down that day, and its not the weekend because the contractors back in the US that make the system work don't work on weekends.

I really want to see a apache in DCS, they have said that they are working on one and have been since 2012, but was supposed to be coming after the A-10, but better later than never. Also fingers crossed it will be the surprise module at the end of the year.

That was a lot of good info squeezed into less than four minutes. Thanks for sharing. On a side note, I thought the channel's logo was a grinning turtle for the longest time. Now I see its actually an anthropomorphic helicopter. That makes more sense than a turtle.

It’s actually a KW but a ninja turtle was used as the inspiration lol. So you’re not wrong.

I have really enjoyed your content so far. There is not much out there on attack helicopter doctrine or even just any helicopter doctrine in general. I have been watching TheChieftain, Military History Visualized, and Covert Cabal among others and there has been very little content relating to your area of expertise. What if you made some videos about the historical use of helicopters in the army and how its changed along with covering different types which have entered service and may have been retired? There is at least 50 videos worth of content right there.

Hey Casmo, Love your content. I always hit "Like". I am a native english speaker (Australian) and have trouble keeping up with the pace of your narration. Do you have any time compression applied? I never thought I was slow at comms Rx - also a pilot (10,000+ hours, helicopters to 747s). You cram a ton of great information into a very short timeframe - i would just prefer it was punctuated. Maybe im getting old! Anyway keep up the great work and thanks. Very Respectfully.

Dave G-Force it’s just editing. If I talk my normal speed you’ll think I’m an idiot. Besides, now you have to watch it twice and pump up my views! 😜

KZbin allows play-back at 0.75x which seems like a good idea on this channel! :D

Is there ever times when attack helicopters have to get really, really, close to their targets, like uncomfortably close bc they can be shot down by rpgs, SAMs and other things of that nature? Just wondering bc, in BF4 it seems i have to get closer to use the tow missle. At long ranges aiming it is really difficult especially against moving targets but also bc maintaing a hover is difficult when you constantly have jets and other things locking on with HS missles
