When I was a kid (9th grade - roughly 19888 I think) I did one of those “Go to work with a parent” projects. My stepdad,that worked for Honeywell, finished up his work schedule for the week by Thursday, so when I went in on Friday, it was just an awesome tour. I got to see a bunch of military project stuff, albeit one place I was not allowed due to the Marine sentry. I did get to spend time in the department that produced the IHADSS. Being a big Apache lover as a kid, it was AWESOME! The engineers even threw me in a seat, dropped a helmet over my head, and had me do bore sight tests so they could track accuracy. They then played a video of flight footage through the monocle, and I vividly recall a FLIR image of watching a rabbit running around on the ground. Although so had a passion for helicopters and flying - I was in heaven geeking out! Unfortunately I had lost an eye to cancer when I was 5yrs old, so joining the Army and flying Apaches wasn’t able to happen, so maybe I will finally be able to get my “fix”!

I can sympathize. I was born with moderate hearing loss likely developed in utero when my mother was a flight surgeon on C-130's. Likewise the military was never an option. DCS has somewhat salved that sting, not to mention the great community.

This was a great explanation. I was especially impressed by the fact that you can see where the other pilot is looking via symbology. That shows the design of the Apache really focuses on crew coordination. One pilot can say "Hey, you see that sketchy lookin' dude hanging out by the garage? I think he's up to something" and the other pilot knows exactly what he's talking about without an extended JTAC-style talk on. Very cool and thanks for sharing!

These videos are extremely useful. I've been reading the manual a lot lately but stuff like this can help visualize previously unclear concepts and input from real life experience is like always, invaluable. Also, I loved your interview with Mover. It was nice to finally put a face to the voice.

Man, what have I gotten myself into. Looking at all the systems and HUD symbology makes me remember the early days of the A-10 learning process. Going to be a steep learning curve for sure.
