Difficulty almost need to be divided into 1: getting it to fly and 2: systems. Some are really easy to start, takeoff and fly while the weapon, navigation and other systems takes many times longer to learn.
@Sinni645 жыл бұрын
I‘ve started DCS with the Hornet on day one of EA and I think it‘s wasn’t that hard to learn, because it didn‘t have that much of features at the beginning and isn‘t hard to fly at all. So when the first new weapons/systems started to come in, it was enough time before that to study all the stuff, that was already present. And learning the new systems one by one, when they come in, is really enjoyable and not that hard. On the other hand, if you are new to dcs and buy the Hornet now, you will have a rough time, like CAP said.

42:08 I also started flying FC3 planes. Last year I got into DCS after seeing the release of the F/A-18C, but before commiting the money and buying the module I started learning with the free Su-25. After being able to fly and operate the entire range of weapons on the Su-25, I started learning air-to-air combat with the F-15C. Now that I know how to operate the radar, scan for enemies, understand the difference between STT and TWS modes, how missiles work (fox 1, fox 2, fox 3) and how to bleed their energy, I feel confident to go ahead and put the money to purchase a module. However instead of the Hornet, now I'm looking at the F-16 and learn it's functions as they are implemented. Honestly, I feel a little overwhelmed by the Hornet, so going along with the F-16 development should not be so hard.

(Crap eyesight and asthma) The F/A-18 has always held a very very special place in my heart, so the fact that I now have the opportunity to learn the intricacies of the systems and tactics real pilots use is a life long dream come true. I'm having so much fun flying and, more importantly, learning the most accurate simulation of a Hornet available to the public that it ought to be illegal. Oh, I wish I had the alpha of a Hornet.

The only thing that makes it more interesting to land than other fighters I've flown in DCS and BMS is the lack of flaring on landing. Thanks to the massive flight surfaces she handles very well at speeds the F-16 wouldn't want to be flying at all.

When I think about how the old Jane’s F18E used to look, the 3D graphics are amazing. As a bit of an addendum, the LITENING targetting pod on the F18 that we currently get is not finalized yet and we will also get an additional targetting pod (the ATFLIR) in the future. This latter TGP will also include a NAVFLIR similar to that featured on the Harrier: in addition a rework for the FLIR system is also being worked on, with the current FLIR being outdated and occasionally broken. Lastly some additional features still to come (in addition to the TWS mode for the air to air rader and harpoon) are the SLAM and SLAM-ER cruise missiles, the walleye tv bomb, and last but certainly not least the air-to-ground radar mode.

Just a suggestion: perhaps split the "difficulty" category into two: difficult to learn (how much time/dedication is required to learn the systems) difficult to use (how difficult it is to effectively use the aircraft once you've learned it) The Hornet is a good example of an aircraft that is relatively difficult to learn but very easy to use whereas on the other side of the spectrum you have warbirds which are very easy to learn but quite difficult to use effectively.

The other main gripe I have sound wise is one you were already covering. Going into AB from Mil or coming back out of AB to Mil power. I use the Thrustmaster Warthog and I have the AB stop in place and have modified both engine axis so that it roughly correlates with the stop so I can use that as my feedback.

Gonna get Viggen too, mostly because i'm Swedish and dreamt about flying it as a kid. Got the F15A and A10A just so i would have something to play with, but i admit the difference between A and C models seems astronomical in quality, leaning in towards the hull in VR to have a closer look shows that they didn't spend too much time on the A models - but hey, they were cheap. Almost fully agree with everything mentioned in the video (and i too own most of the planes in DCS) except for one little thingy and that's the alpha communication. Yeah, this may sound nicer, but IMO the Tomcat communicates high alpha states much more friendly. When i fly the 14 i can tell exactly how many units i have pulled into, with this.....not so much. I can tell i'm in deep buffet, but by then it's too late. Similar to the F-14 and the high speed high g's. You can tell you've pulled them, but by then it's too late. When i fly the Tomcat though, there is crisp distinction between 10, 15, 20 and 30+ units. You just can't miss it. And it helps you not just for energy management but from getting yourself killed. The silver lining of course, is that the FBW of the Hornet does the baby sitting for you, so most times you ain't gonna crash anyways, however, if you aren't careful, energy management can be tricky. Fortunately the HMS can help even with that. So yeah, quite user friendly machine.

I downloaded this module for the Corona trial and it Flew funny. It took really long to accelerate. The stabs were often in wrong position for the phase of flight eg: in an extreme nose up position at 500 Kts. Anyone else have that problem ?

Make sure the DCS option for "game mode" is not enabled. Apparently that kills F/A-18 engine power.

When you asked about a specific mode of operation, well beyond the scope of what the video is about, and he simply replies that he only wanted to hear the sound (he was testing for sounds) which is a perfectly legitimate answer based on what he was doing in the video and your response is "whatever" that is rude plain and simple.

Would the F-16 be a better choice over the f-18 for someone getting into fast military Jets got the first time as it's simpler and not fly by wire? I ask as the reviews on it on steam aren't universally that great but looks to be easier to master.. considering either the f-16, f-14 or f-18..
@haonanzhang67594 жыл бұрын
Most of the learning is put into system interaction rather than how to fly an aircraft. F16 and f18 are both multi-role fighters so you have more system to learn whilst the f14/f15/su27/mig29 are air-to-air only planes in this game so there's way less to learn.

Hey can yall feature all the standard liveries available with the plane too? Itll be a great addition to the review.

Dear Cap, I have some serious concerns regarding the upcoming buyer's guide for the Christian Eagle II. If such a simple module as the F/A-18C takes a 50 minute video to cover then I can't help but be very, very concerned. My concern, of course, is for health and well-being of you and your team at GR. Knowing the complexity of the Christian Eagle II in relation to that of the F/A-18C, I ask that you please not overwork yourself or the team as you work to script and film the video. As much as we enjoy the buyer's guide videos, the Christian Eagle II is liable to prove a daunting task indeed. Perhaps such a fine and complex aircraft is best left for a multi-part buyer's guide series. All the best.
@Stubbies20035 жыл бұрын
I certainly hope that comment of "simple module as the F/A-18C" was a joke or tongue in cheek as there is nothing that simple about this aircraft.
