It's like buddy movie, man! Thx! Kiowa was born for this, fight the enemy back to back with his soulmate. Like Timon&Pumba of the combat. Make it saucier, like IRL in Western Europe forest hills, when you watching the scene for minutes, waiting the enemy trucks and then the Longbow buddy do the job, making a sudden strike pushing the trucks with hellfires or zunies (or whatever it calling).

Great video man and great editing! Also the camera angles were spot on! Question though, why wouldn’t the Apache just do it themselves? They have the FCR and don’t have to unmask to use it. Then after they scan they can pop down and fire at will. So I’m confused why this would be the way to do things, as cool as it is, which is super cool BTW. Just confused on the need. Thx and Thx for the video. I can’t wait to get into this chopper!
@AhSoul7 ай бұрын
I think in RL most Apache's didn't have the FCR. Also the FCR can't IFF, so you'd only go mad with Hellfire Limas if you were certain there were no friendlies there. But yeah in DCS the Apache + FCR can solo most things :)
@hotjonmw907 ай бұрын
the FCR is one reason the Kiowa is retired now and the other AH64 upgrades but before that teamwork is the dreamwork my friend.
@104thMaverick7 ай бұрын
The Apache can’t monitor targets visually without unmasking itself to use the TADS. They can find stuff with the FCR for sure but for proper recon stuff, nothing beats having a mast mounted camera to visually monitor enemy movements.
@ricbish7 ай бұрын
@@104thMaverick Totally agree for the recon side of things and if the Apache doesn’t have the FCR it’s a great combo for sure. Just seems after the recon if the Apache has the FCR the scout should go scout while the big guns finish the enemy. If they don’t have the FCR then heck yeah loads of fun await1
@ricbish7 ай бұрын
@@AhSoul Yes I can see that and thats a great point. I only commented because I saw the FCR on the Apache in the video and couldn’t quite understand why the buddy lase even though it’s super cool. In DCS if the Apache doesn’t have a FCR it’s a great combo for sure but if they have one then after the Kiowa recons they should just keep doing recon while the Apache engages the enemy. It will be interesting to see how all this pans out after the release. Be pretty fun to watch and see how all this works.

Lot of people in these comments forgetting/not knowing that the FCR is not an active radar lock like in a jet and a solo apache trying to replicate this would likely have several missiles hit the same target. Buddy laze guarantees every missile goes exactly where you want it

Help me understand the logic here: Why would you have 2 helicopters operating like that when the Apache could've hovered a bit higher itself, and done the exact same thing on its own without the need of a second bird to lase the targets for it? Where's the benefit in doing that? Cheers!

@@104thMaverick There was a video by Casmo, not too long ago, where he demonstrated how to fire 16 Hellfires at a convoy without the need of a second bird. I can't find it though.
@LEAD-DISPENSER7 ай бұрын
@@nymerie if casmo had done an yes its very easy to do 1 he would of been unmasked as mav said . or 2 he would be using fcr with hellfire L not K . K missiles need to have the target lazed until impact.the L is just told where to look an is sent of on it merry way . If you were to do this demo with just the AH-64 it would take just as long as it did here but the AH-64 would be in view of the enemy an strange as it sounds they don't just sit there they tend to shoot back sitting up in sight of the bad guy who would rather you weren't blowing his toys up is dangerous that's the logic

True, but Kiowa and Apache did this irl for a lot of reasons even tho the Apache could do it by itself so there is still the opportunity for Kiowa pilots to really contribute on the DCS battlefield
@cowansimstudio7 ай бұрын
@104thMaverick Yes they did it because Americans couldn't afford to put FCR and expensive sensors on every apache. But in DCS we can 🤣 This would have been perfect a couple years ago
@104thMaverick7 ай бұрын
Apache can’t visually monitor targets without unmasking to use the TADS tho, sure it can use the radar but there is still a place for an asset to have eyes on targets not just radar hits, plus it’s not just the Apache the Kiowa will work with. Visually tracking and lazing targets without unmasking for fast air will be a huge win for any coalition.

DCS won't ever properly implement it, but IRL there's a point. About 2000, while in 4/3 ACR, the new squadron commander implemented mixed teams (or 'pink teams', a throwback to Vietnam era tactics). Working with Apaches was great, but the fact that they weight as much as 4X what a Kiowa does means they generate huge dust clouds at a hover as compared to a Kiowa (assuming arid or semi-arid terrain). They bring a big stick, but they don't walk softly very well. The Kiowas were better able to push ahead without disclosing position to find and designate targets while the Apaches (with safe lateral offset so a missile doesn't track the designator) could sit further back and send in the noise. Also, as previously mentioned, the MMS is best suited to observing targets without exposing the aircraft to being detected or fired upon.
