Mr. Wagner, thank you for this short tutorial for setup config for DCS. I downloaded this sim awhile ago and now it seems to have been massively improved. I am a licensed GA pilot, and due to restrictions placed by this big V, my fellow pilots and I have been grounded for a short period and thus turned to computer flight simulations. I have been using X-plane for many years as a training aid and have done work with airport design for X-plane as a hobby. Now I have rediscovered DCS and am impressed with this. Excellant work!

Just search the ED forums. But in my opinion, you're gonna find other peoples configs aren't to your *exact* liking. So just make your own that suits you and the controllers you have. I have an X-52 Pro, Thrustmaster Pro Pedals and TrackIR - I create a "baseline" profile and then used that for all my other profiles. It was annoying tho to find the "Global" (common) key defs were not the same between, say, the F-15C and the Su-27. I would like to see devs create profiles that for true common actions are the same each time for every aircraft. Me, I'm an ex Senior Software Engineer from BAE SYSTEMS so I used the ED base config, Notepad++, my brain and created my "common" profile that I used as the baseline for all my other aircraft.

Hey Wags!!!! You're the actual trainer in the training missions!!! Now I feel like I'm in the right place to learn how to activate my ground radar and missiles in the F-16 over some ground targets that like to shoot me out of the sky when I just fly around them without being able to shoot at them... Great plane I might add. Could use a bit more color and such but beautiful job, thanks.

Omg dude your the best!! I was so upset yesterday trying to play this….I spent hours and didn’t know what was wrong I get it’s complicated but I swore my buttons were not mapping….well you just said right at the beginning that if your game is on game sim then you have to mess with the easy/game controls well turns out that was my issue I was on game mode and editing thr simulation controls 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ so happy to have found this hours spent yesterday on trying to figure out why my controller was not mapping the shooting buttons for that 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️thanks so much!!

Didn't see mention of it in the comments, but a top tip for fine tuning axis adjustments, e.g the deadzone, curve or custom curve, is to click select the slider you wish to adjust then use the cursor keys to bump the numbers up and down.

DCS definitely has the best controller configuration in a flight sim right now. That being said, if you guys own a Warthog throttle or stick make sure you become proficient in TARGET. It's opened up a whole new world of layers, switch states, etc. I never fly without it now. I have some profiles to share that took me a lot of tedious work to make but once they are dialed in it truly makes the cockpit more interactive and much more immersive than using the mouse. I have good TARGET profiles for Spitfire and Sabre. However, I also run MFD's and an UFC so that affects the layout I use. You can of course use them as a template to play around with.

How to set them up is easy. What is hard is knowing WHAT to set up. There are far too many controls settings that aren't self explanatory. Maybe a tab for basic flight controls just to get someone new started instead of having to search through endless settings and find that you missed one once you are in game.

I generally do this while in flight to get feedback and change as I go. There's also an issue with changing multiple aircraft controls from the main menu that causes DCS to crash and lose your settings. Doing things in flight seems to be the work around.

On my thrust master , it worked perfect in the beginning, but I had to redownload the game. With thrustmaster, you just have to "twist" the joystick to control rudders, now you cant ... They just flap out of control :( please help

Can you make a new video for the newest updated version. The window doesn't even look the same. Also a few of the commands are missing/ new ones added. I noticed no matter how many times you save you save the profile the game will always try to reload its presets in any of the training modes and rl missions UNLESS you first go into "gameplay" selection and look for (presets) and check the "game presets off/ use mine". Otherwise, like configuring control commands unbalanced will cause conflicting actions, so too, does the leaving game presets on. It will cancel some commands, combine others, and even delete them. Worse they seem to change randomly for each mission. Also, you left out saving profiles...

Could you please go into more detail on the axis tune options how to use them how much you use like if your stick returns to 0+/- 5 but it is to sensitive by default is there a rule to how much curvature to use also when and how do you use the saturation settings. Everyone that does a video on controls that I’ve seen says well I set the dead zone to this and the curvature to that. But no reasoning or justification.

I'm new to DCS and I'm having problems with my Thrustmaster Warthog throttle. I have tried everything I can think of but the throttle for whatever reason is not recognized in DCS. The animation reacts but it has no effect. This is the only game that I have this problem. I have downloaded the Target software, updated all the drivers and software but it still doesn't work. This video is super helpful however it only shows button selections and doesn't include the throttle levers. If anyone reading this has any suggestion it would be greatly appreciated.

My A-10 Warthog throttle and joystick have separate connections that don't connect to each other but they do connect to the computer through a USB hub. I have tried two different profiles in the T.A.R.G.E.T software but I'm still not getting the throttle levers to work correctly. All the buttons work and the hand in-game moves when I move the throttle. The engines don't seem to respond to it. I believe the issue is assigning the levers in-game. When I move them and I'm in the options menu they are not recognized by the game.

HELP: What is happening is that no matter what input is used for control be it a saitek joystick or the keyboard the elevators stays stuck at a particular deflection and it is impossible to zero them out to neutral in a way that maintains anything remotely resembling normal flight. Any attempts to correct result in extremely violent pilot induced oscillations

Why cant I use my POV button on my t1600m joystick on the Camera Horizontal/vertical/zoom view axes? I would really like to be able to look around in Pan camera mode without taking my hand off my stick and on to my mouse all the time. If this isnt possible I think it would please many players if you would make it possible.

@@thurbine2411 Yeah I am literally a total novice just got DCS today in fact only had my first PC for a few days haven't touch a PC since around 2000 when I was a teenager and me and my dad where in to PC stuff so I am well out of date and out of practice and pretty confused but figuring stuff out. Saw another video on this that may help me with DCS hoping to get some reasonably decent controller set up to see if it's worth going all in on a HOTAS and possibly VR. Who knows maybe I will see you in the skies?

i have several DCS modules and my old FFB2 stick works well with all of them except the F-14 after some patches, imho. Every time i enter the cockpit my joystick is on the right side centered by force and also the planes elevators/ailerons are out of center. When i use trimming it´s hard work to do and it still fly unstable.. I really dont know what to do but i remember this didnt always happen in that module and depended if i take off on carrier or ground. But now its everywhere :-(

Hi Matt! I wonder if you could explain how to configure a 3 positions switch on the HOTAS Warthog to be recognised as a 3 position switch with other aircrafts. For example: the middle position on the autopilot 3way switch on the HOTAS Warthog throttle is not recognised as an input if I play any other plane than the A-10C...

You have to do that in Target if you have a Warthog. Otherwise Windows only recognizes 32 dx joystick buttons. In Target you can accurately model the on/off and 3 way switch states as well as add modifier layers. I have profiles for Spitfire and Sabre but the profiles include MFDs as well which is like 60 more buttons you may not have.

Change the control filter to Special for HOTAS (or something similar) and you should see some options that will recognise the three-way switches for the Warthog Throttle - it should be fairly obvious whether they work or not when you try to map them, but bear in mind that some modules may not have these options.

This is very informative. Perhaps Eagle Dynamics can put a recommended profile for the F/A-18C on their site for those of us who have a the HOTAS Warthog throttle and stick and reference that in the instructional videos. I'm thinking very few folks have the new F/A 18 stick.

Hi I'm new to flight sims and using Thrustmaster flight HOTAS X. Is it best to twist the stick for rudders or use the buttons on the thruster? I find it easier to handle if I twist the stick for rudder, but then doesn't seems to work the same as buttons, for example, the rudders don't seem to go left or right when landing if used on thruster buttons. Any advice would be great 😎

new to dcs last sim i flew was flight of the intruder. so i bought thrustmaster hotas but really struggling, i have the standard p51 and the mig that comes with and bought the spitfire, the issue i have is rpm is assigned to the left throttle and i just have a red circle with exclamation mark on the throttle control and cant assign anything. Also any inputs from the throttle on all 3 aircraft don't reach max throttle in the cockpit. any advice would be appreciated

Bit of a problem. I have an Oculus VR setup and the complete HOTAS A10. Stick, Throttle and rudder and am trying to configure in DCS. Whenever I open DCS, it automatically runs in VR. Unable to open configuration to setup the Hotas. How can I stop DCS from starting in VR mode so I can configure controls? Got to be something simple but I'm just not seeing it!

DCS is sending me nuts. My Saitek Pro Flight X56 Rihno Throttle is controlling my roll Axis. I have cleared the Category for it. It zero commands in the "Axis Command" and "All Command" sections, but still. Is there a file somewhere else on my computer that it could be getting these commands from? Hello Matt Can you please make a KZbin DCS World Controls Setup information video specific for the combination of the TFRP Rudder , and HOTAS Warthog? It is getting so confusing to me that I do not get my TFRP rudder configurated correctly. When sliding my pedals left or right, I control the wing ailerons left and right and not the rudder!(?) When pushing the brake pedal left or right, I control the tail aileron of the A-10 so I go up or down!(?) while my stick controls of my Hotas work perfectly for the pitch and roll movement!(?) I seem not to get the configuration of my TFRP rudder clear or correct in relation with the HOTAS Warthog controls. Is there a possibility to get the correct profiles for the configuration of the TFRP rudder with the HOTAS Warthog? Thanks in advance. Regards, Marc

I've always wondered once we install a new modules if we need to clear the one that are pre assign. For example upon installing a new module there will be a bunch of command that will automatically map in the view. I always spend time deleting them before mapping the new one. I am wasting my time or I should just forget about those

My X-52 Pro doesn't show 2 columns like here. I just have a single controller column. How did you get 2 seperate columns? Throttle and Joystick.

My Oculus Rift audio messed up and I'm trying to use my own headphones. It works great for Elite Dangerous but sound quality is horrible in DCS, like I have a setting wrong. It's not even playable. I already unchecked the box in DCS in the VR tab to not use built in audio. Any suggestions would be appreciated?

Raz Etedgy yes you can, you just have to add a modifier when you go to set the key binding. Example: if you want bombs and rockets on the same button, bombs can be on “button 1” and you add a modifier like “shift” plus “button 1” and now essentially your button 1 has two functions now.

whenever i plug my control stick into my computer, my computer recognizes its there but DCS does not. i've tried playing playing it with the T Flight Hotas X but i could only get that to work by using a remapper to trick my computer into thinking it was an X-box controller. Next i bought the T.16000M FCS. the DCS page says its compatible with the game but it still does not work. i'm using it on DCS Steam edition if that makes a difference.

Why is there no universal "backup" command yet? I've spent hours upon hours setting up controls, I just want to save ALL my work for ALL air frames, so that when DCS breaks itself (like it did with 2.5.6...) I can just copy and paste the files and be done with it. PLEASE Make a button for universal backup/save/import... Having to go through all the airframes, for each individual controller (of which I have 5), click on each category and save it, then repeat to install it AND hope I didn't select the wrong controller? Super terrible UI design...

Hey Matt or who ever can help me ... I had all my joystick buttons mapped out for releasing weapons and designating ground targets in my F16 Viper module. It worked as advertised . After I went into the same mission but flying my F18 Hornet module ... I checked the controls setup for weapon release and designating ground targets , it all looked good however in game I am not able to fire air weapons at targets nor can I lock a Targeting Pod target in ground mode .. Also my laser is not firing. This is bizarre because and hour before I was flying my F18 then I decided later to fly the same mission in my F16 .. Strangely now both my F16 and my F18 will not fire weapons or lase ground targets. I looked over my game control settings for the weapon release actions for both aircraft and they look ok. I don't have a HOTAS setup at the moment , I'm using my thrustmaster stick with 4 buttons and a hat switch for my viewing and a throttle slider. As I mentioned everything was working perfectly for me flying in the F18 until I tried the same mission in the F16. Can you please shed some light on what's going on

Why do I only have one column for my x52? It’s all plugged in! I have spent hours trying but cannot work it out! Is it all on just one column now?

Hello, I don't have an X52, but that system may be recognized in DirectInput as a single controller, not separate stick and throttle. Thanks

First, thank you for making this as I just downloaded the DCS and am learning to set it up. One question I have is setting up controls with the Thrustmaster T16000. Can I just bind commands like you show, or do I have to make a config file for the Thrustmaster GUI as well?

Great video, however I have one question, which is more for the developers than yourself, why can't we load moderfiers.lua files as we would any of the other input_device.lua files?

I am using Thrustmaster warthog hotas, after todays update my DCS not recognising it. I have tried reinstalling drivers but in vain...not working any solution? please
