I mean... Gunn seems to really like the emotionally complex group of misfits. He did that with the Guardians of the Galaxy, Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, and now with Creature Commandos. Plus he's going to be doing the Authority film, so... I think it's just the kind of the characters he feels most comfortable with. At the same time, though, I don't think it's the only thing he's capable of doing. A lot of the characters in those other projects used humor as a crutch or as a way to distract from their pain and trauma. But not all characters were like that, and some of the comedy was more situational rather than brought on by a character's words or actions. So I'm fairly confident in Gunn's ability to not use comedy to that degree for characters it doesn't work for. I suppose we'll just have to wait for Superman to come out to know for sure, but he's a massive fan of DC and basically all of its characters, even the obscure ones, and I don't think he'd so hig a risk as to fundamentally change the personality of most of the characters just for comedy.

Peacemaker season 1 is in the DCEU. Peacemaker season 2 is in the DCU. Not confusing. No need for wormholes or magic helmets or time travel. No need to explain how Peacemaker and Amanda Waller go to another universe because the characters are already established in both universes - similar to how JK Simmons' J Jonah Jameson is in the Raimi films and the MCU.

The problem was the villain imo and they should have gone into the history of the scarab, the Reach, and the other scarab suits. I always liked their earlier animated movies and shows.(Up to justice league unlimited and all star superman, etc) I always felt that they should've just made a DC animated cinematic universe instead of live action. Just taking their time with story and animation. And I mean hiring top tier animators like collabs with Japan anime studios. They did it before with madhouse studios with the Gotham knight movie, and that animation was beautiful.

The suicide squad is a much better movie than suicide squad easily I do agree that has a lot of comedy than suicide squad but it does have better story better character development better editing . Unfortunately it did not make a lot of money for whatever reason, and I am not a fan of Peacemaker because of the comedy, it was entertaining but with a lot of comedy hopefully season will be better.

I’m not all that excited about an animated Blue Beetle show. If there never were a live action movie perhaps I’d be more interested but all in all my lack of excitement is due to the fact that I didn’t like the movie at all. I thought it was easily the worst DC movie made in the past 15 years. The comedy was really bad and the lack of character development was amateur at best. I enjoyed peace maker but agree with your take on the humor being too much. It took me out of the moment many times. The occasional dirty remark is fine and I’m no prude so I do enjoy it but when it’s over and over again and again it just takes away from the actual story. I mean if that’s who he is then maybe they should just make a movie about him and call it Ricky Stanicky. Oh wait, someone did that didn’t they ?

@@peterstoric6560 I definitely liked the Flash and Black Adam much more than Blue Beetle. Birds of Prey is one that I didn’t care for either. In the end I don’t think Blue Beetle was horrible. I was super excited for it and the special effects were cool and the actor playing Jaime was great and should be recast in Gunn’s DCU but the overall movie was just distracting to me with bad humor and lack of story/character development.

The first time I was introduced to Blue Beetle was years ago in The Death of Superman comic book. When Doomsday gave his first premiere and tackled a lower tier, Justice League. Boy, did they get slaughtered! Anyway, the whole group was B list Justice Leaguers. Their purpose is to wet your appetite for the main course of A listers. Namely, Superman. That's what I think of when I think of Gunn. Gunn is a B list guy. His focus is on B list characters. He NEVER wanted to tackle a Superman project in the past. Now, he's up a creek. He has to. What better way to relieve some of the pressure than to oversaturate a Superman film with a slew of characters. -OG
