I can see both sides of the argument and I dont think there's right or wrong opinion. I think for me, its not so much about kiting, but its more a question of: should adds deal that much damage that your only option is to kite? I think ultimately it boils down to that. On the other hand, nerfing the damage of the adds would make this raid much easier and its already easy as it is. However, then an argument can be made that the raid lacks proper mechanics and the difficulty comes only from the high damage dealt by adds and bosses. Personally, I'd like to see elite raids with better mechanics rather than having adds that deal a crap ton of damage.

It needs to be a balance of both. I personally like spank n tanks better because I feel like I'm in an actual superhero fight like in the comics. The devs have been mixing it up each episode to give everybody a fair feel of what they want.

For instance, in that footage of tanking, I only saw you tanking adds, would have been nice to see kiting a boss. I think would have been better if you showed diverse clips of footage. I don't normally kite bosses in this game unless the raid calls for it, you don't need to kite king shark, murk, wrath and even in past raid deathstroke, terra, hive master were all face tanking. Last bosses I kited in a raid were like Owlman and Ultraman just because it was so much easier and impossible to even die

People need to make up their mind in what is important, they always complain about tanks. Do you want a tank that get the job done in 20 min without wipe? Or face tanking die few times people start leaving blaming tank then the healer, then the troll. 90% of people that complaining are dpses thinking they can do better job as tank but never really done it. When you tell them to tank they scared and tell same excuse I came in as dps I don't wanna tank lol. One time guy switch trying to prove a point but 1 2 3 hits he was dead because he was face tanking ads in cote lol. Then he tried to kick the healer out because he wasn't getting heals which wasn't true People wanted to kick him but I let him withness how it was done so he can learn. Face tankers in elite raids most of the time ends up with other healers because they take so much damage and put too much pressure on healers and they give the illusion that healers aren't doing their job. By I kite I tried to help the group to make thinks easier and take the pressure of the healers its called teamwork.

Maybe I'm kitting wrong then I do the same thing as ice and my shields but instead of jumping so far away I just jump to the other side of the ads to group them again instead of making them chase me so far but maybe I will jump just a step farther so they lunge I just usually try not to move the ads to much after I group them in a good group for dps

Ruedabaker 7 well ice has resonating gale which will just pull all the adds towards coral or aqua while you kite around. Makes it easy for ice in that type of situation where you can be distance and then fake them back towards the boss and still keep your distance

no, even if a target moves out of range if there is a dot ticking from a dps it continues to tick until it stops its duration. The only thing kyting could impact is type of powers dps use if its melee/midrage etc you could have them out of range before the dps uses the power etc.

Tank kiting seems to disrupt/displace adds too much. In high raids and elites I feel this gives opportunity for adds to aggro Healers and others?

Sspidy Ssenses that only happens if the tank loses track of an add and doesn’t reapply aggro with a pull. It can certainly happen if the tank isn’t paying attention but should be called out by a player or the tank should notice the add not being pulled and re position himself

If it was this would've been addressed a long time ago, and patched... At the end of the day guess what.. You're still getting the Raid done, and that's what matters. It's not cheese, not a glitch. Kiting is something that is in most MMO's. I am king of that crap. Matter of fast reflexes and knowing what to do depending on what you are up against. No tank... I end up being tank as I do more damage and pull the aggro. So I always have to kite bosses around. Kiting though his really fun.

2nd.. Just like to add. Healers usually kite adds as well. My league mate usually does it alot to bring adds to the tank just cause he missed a lot of the adds,The raid or alert going a bit slow....

My problem is that we shouldn't have to use chrono's, acrobat roll, man-bat trinket, speed soda's to be a effective tank, granted we our own juggles and stuns but it not enough for elite content. I feel that we should have everything we need in our power set. Tank effects should be enhanced for example.... (Ice) says certain effects may freeze enemies great , but it's only low level enemies, what happened to fire's panic effect, what about a rage effect that make enemies turn on one another ijs. Don't get me wrong kiting is ok but it feels like it should be a power set of it's own like a agility tank power, bottom line developers are to lazy to make this game dynamic enough for this type of game play so all tanks get chron's man-bat trinkets or super speed and you can be successful like chill said.

They're lazy. All they care about is milking money out of people with replays, capsules, and other shit in the market. When really if they advance the game more in style play, powers, costume designs, and overall more diverse mechanics it would generate more players that would boost the revenue. But it's just too easy to put out specials in the market because they don't have to do much. Even the double marks special mepps said it was only for instances and not dailys because they don't have the "time". Pure laziness.

As a healer I'm glad you mentioned it's more stress on us as well as the troll. I've never seen an issue with kiting. I swear these new generation players are dumb AF. Who TF wants to take unnecessary damage. Kiting doesn't even have to cover a long distance for it to be effective. And the dps can still get there numbers. Now I see why people want survival back so much because had these new generation dumbasses played it. They would've known kiting is effective. You did have to kite Krypto but you had to kite Vice as well. Great video.

there's been plenty of times kiting hasn't been necessary throughout raids and there have been plenty of raids where you needed to depending on the powerset. Doesn't matter what the powerset was throughout every survival mode kiting has been prevalent throughout the higher rounds.

@GodlyDCUO I don't see kitting as adding more risk to other group members unless the tank doesn't have enough dom or he pulls the ads near other players. I'm Ice and I'm lacking massive SPs as I only play on and off a couple of months every year maybe. So my shields can't withstand the beating of that raid with 3 bosses + murk + adds. That's with 5 shields. So I kite and pull them around the edges of the boss room. You know who complains? DPS players who only want to sit in one spot and mash buttons. "Oh no you messed up my aoe dot" "Oh no... i lost my target" And so on. Not one says thanks that no add ever jumps them on my watch. No one rolls when they see Murk preparing to dash. No.. they say kitting is gay and I should stand still. Well IDGAF about their leaderboard numbers. If you can't target lock in 2019 and you can't roll out of the way on a very long telegraphed attack then you should play a simpler game. PS: honestly I can't tank everything at once with 11k dom and atlantean capsule tank gear. And no matter how good the healers are, they won't help against multiple 30k hits in a row. One more thing, kitting is an active playstyle which I happen to enjoy. Don't just do it for the economics.

@GodlyDCUO so you want earth tanks with a squishy brick or a disgusting ice armor type of mechanic (aftershock) to stand there and block the adds and 2 bosses while aquamancer is sat there bbing you? No you run around countering take the least amount of damage you can so you are not stressing the other supports. All of you guys against kiting are the ones who either don't main tank or the ones who have no idea how much damage you actually take while sitting their and blocking. If you pug a run you cannot rely on every support in that group being amazing at their role, so if the healer is struggling you're not going to want to sit there and block the whole time and especially not when every tank I inspect in pugs has fortified assault on... you're gonna use your tank mechanic and do what chill is doing in the video. Same goes for the other powers you've mentioned. A rage tank has an average of 140-150k ish health and the adds in cote tear through that let alone the 2 bosses on you.. "sit there and turtle tank" no wonder you pugs be failing Kiting only becomes a problem when people are dragging adds down hallways or across the room making you chase them or exaggerates while kiting for stuff you dont need to. Nobody wants a tank who pops their mechanic and just sits there blocking unless it's required like the doom spin, but even then you can keep the adds in a crowd control rotation and the only point you'd need to block is if they become immune. No way in hell would I expect any tank to sit there and take as much damage possible, I'd expect them to be smart and create a little distance between themselves and the adds/bosses only if needed, and if not you farm counters. You should not sit there and turtle at all

The game has drastically changed from how it was. I liked the face tanking which is pretty much nonexistent or not effective in elite content. They are no longer tanks. They are tow truck controllers. This elite content killed my desire to tank & after 5+ years of ice tanking, I switched powers. I'm done with the crappy add kiting/stunning content. And it's heavily dependent on having max level 160 artifacts or change a movement mode or cheesy consumable. There are so few tanks on that are willing to do current elite content. Run PanE & there is rarely a problem with getting a tank, because there is a rare item in the ultra man cape. Same with ZooE & man bat back ups people want. Currently, once full renown, there is no reason to run current Elite content. And they are annoying to run with the rushing current etc. It's a bore chore.

I don't have a problem with kiting it's just how it is being abused by the majority of these tanks nowadays. They are doing all this extra shit like jumping as high you can and dragging the ads so much which makes it difficult for the dpses. and an example would be king shark and these tanks are using the whole room and putting the group in danger. COTE lb is fine but now all these tanks are kiting everything and they look stupid af. I am currently fire tank on my alt for a bit and I am doing just fine by just doing the cc loop and not doing all this jumping shit and rolling, I call these tanks ballerinas. People don't understand the concept of kiting in a raid like this with 2 Bosses and 6 heavy hitting ads that demolish you shields in 2 seconds. I see the comments on how you're bad because you're kiting but they don't understand the amount of damage you take in when face tanking content like this or similar content or SM. They probably don't even run the raids to know or judge. I'm not saying it isn't possible to face tank content like this because I have and a lot of other who know how it works know you're just putting yourself at a way higher risk of dying especially when you cooldowns aren't aligned. And especially when on your downtime with cooldowns as rage or any tank power when everything is on cooldown those 3 seconds of being vulnerable can cause a wipe if everything hits you all at once especially the ads with big scoop and heavy hitting combos getting stunned or juggled. Then it also falls into the healer hands at times. I guess we're trash for kiting getting the highest rounds in SM or finishing content quick so be it at least we're getting our shit done while those some people hold Ls and comment on videos about how bad we are.

From someone who’s been tanking since the beginning, in the current state of DCUO the game is easiest as ever before. Kiting is an unnecessary in the game besides in crown of thorns elite last boss where the game forces you to kite or you’ll eventually die. Other then that people are kiting in other raids where it’s not needed along with spamming lunge/spamming tumbling master. People go into old content and unnecessary kite, not only does it look hilarious but groups end of suffering in the end. They drag ads making it annoying for dps, people miss orbitals and i’ve been in cases where they dragged the ads into the group killing the group. Also this “strategy” are making most tanks lazy where they don’t have to rely on their tank powers, they can just spam they’re pull and lunge spam away. Idk about you but during my experience of sm even during higher rounds myself and other tanks never resorted to this tactic. I know DCUO is a different type of mmo rpg but in others this isn’t how tanking is done nor looks. It’s not an exploit but it is a cheap/cheesy way to tank period.

In the high round SM round Kiting and catching blues were needed to succeed. High round bosses and ads Oan SM. The Black Lanterns Two Handed and One Handed ads and brawling bosses like Guy Gardner on 15 and Corrupted Hal Jordan on 18 were devastating to even the best tanks in that era dc. Trigon SM Cyborg on Round 17 needed to be somewhat kited and not to be given blues because he would possibly wipe the tank and group. FoS SM Lex, Krpto, Superman, Supergirl, Powergirl and I guess Doomsday needed to be kited because the damage in was insane didn't matter, HH SM was like the only the only SM where you didn't need to kite the bosses you were kiting the bigger round 19 ads more than Green Arrow and Batman on 19. Kiting will forever be needed every tank needs to adapt to it eventually in content doesn't matter how good the player is eventually it will be needed.

How isn't it? You are taking all the aggro and keeping adds/boss damage away from the group. Only difference is you are just taking less damage while doing it.

Answering everyone can certainly do it but in terms of a tanking concept with actually having aggro it’s a tool for survival but there are many in the community that seem to think of it as cheesing or exploiting even though it’s just a basic foundational mechanic in most mmos

Kiting adds during an entire fight, that´s just lazy mechanics and boring as hell.
