Jaby asked whether DDLJ had any impact on parents at that time? - DDLJ is the most culturally significant movie in Indian cinema history. After the film, the rate of love marriages actually sky rocketed. There are so many stories of couples getting married because of DDLJ & naming their child as Raj or Simran. Raj & Rahul weren't mainstream Indian names before - SRK made them so

this movie is so iconic that the "Palat" scene on that bridge is actually called DDLJ bridge in Switzerland, or Saanen Bridge. I went there when I was in Switzerland this past August and they have SRKs and Kajol's poster right on the bridge on both sides of the road. It is quite beautiful and scenic with a lake right underneath and small aircrafts landing at an air strip just a few feet away (also shown in the movie when he is racing against the plane)

9:30 that “No, I won’t come” and leaving her there. That gangster move as you rightly said 😂 was actually improvised by SRK. Actually that zip scene 3:43 was the most retake scene i gues it took like 75 take of that scene, Director Adi Chopra felt that this would be a steamy scene at the time of writing it. However, SRK and Kajol couldn't stop laughing. The entire time they were in splits and took several retakes to get the scene right. Reason was the sound of zipper was very funny to them and only they both could hear it and no one else and Adi went furious over them....

9:27 That was ad-libbed by SRK. He was supposed to say some thing like "yeah sure I'll come" but the audience would know from his expression that he wouldn't. A 'smile on the lips but tears in the eyes' kind of thing. But when it came time to say that line he went with his instincts and said "Nai. Main nahi aaunga." instead. Adi loved it and kept it in the movie and it's now one of his most iconic moments.

I think DDLJ is timeless bcs at that time showing NRI family, Rugby, speaking English was shown as Normal although it was not that normal for audiences that time, The picture / video quality was high, songs epic, the story once they reached India was as per Indian public nature that time... It was relatable then and now too.

So they add another show at night as well....) I went too watch the 3PM show as I booked prior...Can you believe it was Wednesday (a working day) n the show was at 3PM, n the show was housefull...... N it was an out of the world feeling to watch it in the theatre.... N after the huge response, DDLJ shows were continued for another whole week.... Fun fact - DDalJ did far better collection than the other new movies that were running that time .... Lol... Nobody can beat this guy when it comes to Stardom......

Yes - it had a major impact! A big reason why this movie is so iconic is because of its legacy... It not only helped change the perspective of young parents at that time - but also for NRIs and the Indian diaspora across the world who had the same 'cultural protectionist' views as Amrish Puri in this film. SRK essentially became a blueprint for young boys of the diaspora on how they can balance both their identities (Indian and Western) while still being cool and being able to talk to girls. This was a time where young lovers had to rebel in India - but what this film did was teach both a younger generation and an older generation on how a consensus can be reached. Director Aditya Chopra's vision for SRK in the film was "Every mother should want you to be her son, every sister should want you to be her brother, and every girl should want you to be her lover." - Its a testament to the film but also SRK's performance that he indeed accomplished that... while he was hailed as a talented young experimental actor before; this film was the launchpad for SRK the cultural icon.

You know whats crazy, RAJ confessed his love for her and he could see that Simran was too confused and shocked to process her thoughts (which is negative) so Raj fell back on Plan b which was to pretend it was a prank. They spent another 2 weeks off camera and Raj developed feelings for her (he try to steal a pic of them 2 in a frame) but the talk of her marriage reminded him how unethical he was being. The train station is a timless scene for us DDLJ fans as this was a time before cell phones and emails, when she asked for his address to send an invitation to her wedding he told her straight, "I wont attend" How can he watch the woman he fell for get married? he kissed his teeth hoping she understood but clearly she is naive from his perspective. The only time he didnt joke with her made Simran realised everything.

8:45 You asked "why was he afraid to commit to the statement" I know this video is a year old but let me add my 2 cents. This scene is by far the best moment in the entire movie, Raj played a very smart game when he asked her the Qs, he needed to know Simrans position before he could openly say he has feelings for her. His made up scenario only has to out comes: A - Simran says I LOVE YOU TOO. Raj will then speak to her dad, fight for Simrans freedom against the arrange marriage. B - Simran says she will honor her fathers wishes. Raj will not get in her way and complicate things etc Her silence was clear cut, she wasnt happy about the arrange marriage and her eyes were too afraid to say she has feelings back. This is what made Raj break into his "laugh" to help ease her feelings and lift the pressure off of her, yet he knew, she what her heart desired.

The movie makers were definitely trying to make a point about “hindustani ladki ki izzat” given the generation back then was focused on ‘culture’. It meant as if women of other countries don’t mind having sex whatsoever. This is still the mindset that Indians have about “white girls”. They think white girls are very much open to have sex. I would rather appreciate it if Raj said “I will never do anything without consent”.
