This video explains the various uses of the word "地" in Chinese, breaking it down into its components "土" and "也" to clarify its meaning. It also teaches how to use "地" to form phrases and sentences, as well as words related to it. The video is very helpful for learning Chinese, and the spoken language is very authentic. Great course!

I really like the format and delivery of this video and all the unintentionally cute formations of two character words. I have yet to look this up but would geography and geology be similar or same characters since the suffix -ology means the study of something and in your example the second character means logic?
@MandarinBlueprint2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the compliment! Geography and Geology have different suffixes! one is an -ology while the other is a -graphy. So one deals with the quality of the ground, while the other deals with the information of the ground. Geography 地理学, or the characters literally mean "ground logic study", while Geology is 地质学 or literally "ground quality study".

This video is helpful. Still, the giant scorpion is a bit jarring to me. May I propose a gentle reading for affected character: 也 yě means also. It's design followed the older design 𠃟 which reminds me of a umbilical cord (makes more senses if you read from top to bottom). What it tells us is that this is purely a support character, which by itself has no meaning. If we were to read from left to right, the stroke orders are 1: a long stroke that shows its extent from primary character center, slanted slightly, finishing off with an obvious hook. 2: Instill the same principle as the primary character. 3: Give it its legs to walk its own road. So, if we add 土 land + 也 also = 地 land also (locale-type) This explain why 土 in not turn into its radical ㄊ but retain its shape at 1/3 its size with a slanted base. Other than that, It's a great video and I learned new stuff too.

哎呀, you're right - checked by several people, including Chinese natives, but it's so easy to become blind to 的 since it's such a common character. 请原谅我们!
