Hi Kevin, I thoroughly enjoy your videos! I started out as an A&P at an FBO in Massachusetts in the 70's with a private pilot's license. I got to fly in a 310Q (when they were new!) on occasion during charter flights. I got my multi in a 1957 310A back in 1985 in Crestview, FL. I loved the way it flew and the FBO had no problems letting me rent it for an IFR flight to New Orleans after I got the rating. I was looking to fly for the airlines and wanted to build some multi-engine time so I bought an Apache the next year (couldn't afford a 310!) A few years later, a friend of mine bought another 310A and after I helped him install radios and overhaul the right engine , I got to be a partner in the airplane! We loved the plane but hated the operating expenses. Eventually we sold the plane at a great profit (lots of sweat equity) and moved on. I never got the airline job and pursued a career in engineering but always flew for fun. I've owed 8 airplanes over the years but always had a soft spot in my heart for the 310. Your videos bring back the joy I had when I flew these great planes. I can only afford a Cherokee 140 today, but I keep my hand in and look back to my "glory days" of the 310.

When you mentioned Keokuk IA, my stomach turned. Terrible house fire there in 1999. Killed 3 kids and 3 firefighters. We learned a lot from the mistakes they made that day.
@thatguyalex28352 жыл бұрын
May I ask the cause of the fire? If it was a space heater, then we all know that we shouldn't use those devices. Also, RIP to all those in the house during the accident.
@Dan_Bender2 жыл бұрын
@@thatguyalex2835 The cause was a stove burner was turned on by a child, and there were two plastic high chair trays laying on the stove. NO active smoke detectors present. Here's a list of of recommendations from NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational and Health) investigators. - ensure that adequate numbers of staff are available to immediately respond to emergency incidents - ensure that Incident Command conducts an initial size-up of the incident before initiating fire fighting efforts, and continually evaluates the risk versus gain during operations at an incident - ensure fire fighters are trained in the tactics of defensive search - ensure that fire command always maintains close accountability for all personnel at the fire scene - ensure that fireground communication is present through both the use of portable radios and face-to-face communications - ensure that a trained Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) is established and in position immediately upon arrival - ensure that fire fighters wear and use PASS devices when involved in interior fire fighting and other hazardous duties

Kevin, have you found that you can activate the boots too early in icing conditions? I've heard that if ice has not built up to a sizable amount and activation occurs too early, the ice will expand with the boot and not be removed. Thus causing a space between the ice and the boot. This can cause the boots to be of no use as ice continues to build. Your take, please. Thanks.
