Credits to astroboy2003sub on Tumblr for the subs, go check them out. I obviously don't own Astro Boy, it belongs to Sony and Tezuka.

in Pluto it's so much more sadder. Tenma loses love for Astro after he sees how smart and kind Astro is. Somewhat of an opposite of his son, he realizes Tobio probably hated him all along.
@jaredf.65328 ай бұрын
I believe in the original. Tenma stops loving Astro when he realizes that Astro will forever stay as a kid and won't grow up to be an adult. So he begins to lose it after that. Basically unable to watch someone grow physically and mentally mature for him
@ClassicSonicSatAm4 ай бұрын
@@jaredf.6532 Which was kinda dumb since it's a robot that wasn't designed to grow physically *and installed all the weapons/powers into him*, even Atlas had to upgraded himself to become physically older, then again Tenma was crazy after losing the real Tobio.

Astro Boy is strangely deep, In theory this should be an "enemy of the week robot boy saves the day and everyone laughs at the end"
@Astroniko003 Жыл бұрын
It's always been this way to an extent. Even in the original manga which has a TON of silly moments there's a bunch of stuff that touches on racism and war and lots of other things. It's simply blanketed over by the cute little robot boy going on cute little robot boy adventures. Every version of Astro Boy has "monster-of-the-week" styled episodes thrown in there, but they still manage to touch on some deeper themes. I could ramble on and on about the tones of the franchise in general if I wanted to, but the bottom line is that you can definitely see how this was originally made by a guy who was inspired by Walt Disney's stories that also went through WW2 and saw the horrors during that time. tl;dr, Astro Boy can and will get dark if it wants to and will not shy away from robots facing really existential thoughts.
@badfoody Жыл бұрын
it honestly just carries on the legacy of the old manga and anime. Despite the goofy very 1930s art despite being written in the 50s. It was very heavy on the dark themes that Osamu Tezuka had in mind.
@fatcat1697 Жыл бұрын
Astro Boy always been deep. Their world is a really sack crap world. There are multiple totalitarian dictatorships around the world, robots are 4th class citizens while having actual consciousness, and Astro Boy has to grapple with being a second class citizen inspite of how much his friends and family love him and all the work he's done. Astro Boy's dream is an incredibly difficult and sad future that might never come to pass; a world where humans and robots can see each other as equals. The Blue Knight is a robot who ONLY saves robots and hates humans with a deep fervor and with how this series treats robots, yoy don't know how much you can agree with him inspite of your own humanity.

Nobody would remember such an anime. Always funny how "sell toys!" was the basis of so much really deep entertainment. This says a lot about our society and not all of it is negative.
@stephanos61285 ай бұрын
@@Bapate-rh9be "sell toys!" is usually the compromise between a creator and the shareholders, sometimes it overlaps some people simply want to write silly stories- which is easier to swallow for general audiences and therefor can easily sell a toy. but what I mean those writers dont necesarilly write silly stories to simply sell a toy... Theres also some people who want to slip in the deep writing they always wanted to write its just the shareholder rather the toy sales be top priority in that project. and thats how you get something like Astro. no one likes ads. so well written stories must be memorable otheriwse theres nothing to sell.

It's not shown in the subtitles, but Tenma uses the word "kaibutsu" (怪物 is the kanji) at one part, which means "monster". I'm imagining he said something along the lines of "I thought I had created a monster," but I would have to figure out the rest of what he said.

I'm looking for the origins for the character names in Metropolis, following Ken-ichi! "Ken-ichi wa" sounds like "hello", the character that teaches the robot humanoid Tima language. There's a robot nicknamed 'Pero' signifying it's a dog's name, sounding like the word for "dog" in Spanish. I'm curious if Tima's name comes from Dr. Temna? 'Tema' means "subject/issue/theme" in Spanish... HAHA

I've never seen Astro with those scary demonic eyes in other series. I guess the 2003 series have the darkest story, if we don't include the Pluto series where they say it's a dark version of Astro.

We heard ...... There will be perhaps 2025 upcoming "Astro Boy Reboot" as a French-Japanese (3D) animation, probably based on Astro Boy 2003 series. "Astro Boy Reboot" as a French-Japanese (3D) animation also has the same production named "Method" as Zag's Miraculous.
I've thought about that ever since I've gotten into Black Jack recently. I guess it could be like a small reference to him? I mean they already had Dr. Kiriko show up at one point in another episode, so it wouldn't be out of the question
