I love big open world games but as my life has gotten busier I've come to sort of really dislike open world games😅. I still like them but if I have an hour free I end up jumping on WWE or a backwards compatible game instead of mindlessly running through a forest in Valhalla not having enough time to do something. I still love Valhalla but as I'm not gaming as much as I used to, I do like having that more linear world

Imma be honest; it being linear kinda kills it for me. What I loved about Dead island is that I'm locked inside an entire world of zombies and me trying to survive them aspect. Them making it linear destroys that immersion for me, especially seeing no one talk about driving when in the 2014 version you could drive, and it even had a radio, saddens me. This was my most anticipated games and now it's one of the games I'll get when it's on sale. For the people that say just play the other zombie games for that experience, and I'll say no, I barely play zombie games, and dead island is the only one to make me love open world first person games in general, it getting rid of the open world hurts but I'll get it on sale for 20 bucks some years down the line, since its I hate linear first-person games💀

Same, I basically want the game Project Zomboid, but have it be full 3d & use a 1st-person perspective. It would be super cool to have it embrace the same ethos of "you are going to die, this is how it happened" - where you just get dropped into the same continuous world as a different survivor (i.e. you can even find your old character as a zombie & take your stuff for your new character to have), where the goal is to just survive & do whatever you find fun/worthwhile.

Even if lego Batman 2 had a "small" open world, people prefer that than the hub worlds. They also got rid of cars because of how small it is in di2. But I'm still gonna buy it, on sale😌

I'm honestly happy that it's not a full blown open world. That means a number of things. They can focus more on crafting each area. The game game can progress naturally. And what I feel like is the most important detail. Even though it's different developers than the first game, they're still trying to make feel and flow like Dead Island. Dambuster doesn't really have a good track record, but I'm rooting for them this time. I want to see them come out swinging and really make a name for themselves.

I wouldn't complain about the devs giving us convenient tools like "explosive barrels" and other "creative" conveniences. Only because It's something we would be complaining about not having if they didn't... How many times have we complained about not having the tools to go about our own ways of solving issues. I think it's progress to give the player every creative convenience at this point in gaming history, because it gives us the power to do what we want at any time, it's what we've been begging for and now we have it.

I'm fine with more linear style games. As an adult with a family I have limited time for certain hobbies. A massive open world game may not get finished by me. This game looks good after the amount of time it's spent in development

I'm perfectly fine with i* small, like I want it to be at least as big as the maps from the first game, I don't thinkk I'd like it a lot if it felt very, ..trail like, long but not much to either side as you keep going down the plot. *edit: to borrow someone elses words, I really hope this doesn't become a corridor shooter with good looking but very limited space to actually play in, I want a semi open world like the first game.

I'm just glad alot of things described here can be seen in the first game, linear story with more of an open ended gameplay style. You could argue Dead Island 1 was "open world" but really it was like how this game is described, 3 different maps seperated by loading screen with side quests inbetween. Happy with what I am hearing so far, just hope its stable at launch.

Bioshock was also somewhat based on hub-oriented gameplay, and I want to say the original Dead Island was also based on hubs, while they did get pretty large later during gameplay, I don't think it will be quite as jarring to experience in that regard.

No. Going by other previews you have 10 districts that you will go back and forth between throughout the game. I’m also pretty sure it was mentioned you will be able to manually go back to previous areas.

I loved the first 2, but once I played dying light, I was blown away. And when they released the definitive editions, I bought those and couldn’t stay interested. They felt slow paced and to closed in. This looks way better, but the same in so many ways. What’s different though?? Different for the better than the last games.

i would love to see easter eggs referring to the "LA scene" in this game like for example in the play test he said he stumbled upon a LA mansion who was once owned by young influencers put a tesla in the drive way and boom David dobricks house or like maybe we can walk into a teenagers room with FaZe merch or something imo that would be sick

With this day and age there’s no hope for delayed release games. Not to mention we’ve been waiting since 2014 for the sequel. So many other zombie games have come and gone since then and really lack the touch they used to have. Too late.

This open world could have been done correctly, filled with many mini games, side quests and even resource gathering for base building and crafting. Which in turn adds to the story and immersive gameplay. We are basically wanting a game like this but with Project Zomboid style mechanics and freedom. The stories write themselves after that and the game play is endless to some degree.

I hope there is an option to disable or greatly increase weapon durability from the beginning of the game. I know many people love it but it takes away from enjoying a game. Especially how heavy handed the first game was with weapons at times breaking after two uses. I'm glad its more Bioshock levels that Elder Scrolls open world levels.

@@Ezdine_G8261 Sure most people feel that way. I don't. It makes it more frustration. And I just want the option to turn up durability, I'm not expecting to change the game so everyone has the same experience. My Dead Island playthrough was just me avoiding combat at all cost and only carrying multiples of one weapon because I never knew when one would break. Durability seemed to disappear at random rates. I was frustrated and didn't enjoy it. I got close to the end but I never could finish it.

I need a mix of both, I still want a semi open world and If it is very narrow and level based, I'm not going to enjoy it as much as I could have. That being said, I also agree I don't want the ... Assassins creed Valhalla level open world where it's just too vast and spread too thin. I want a happy medium leaning towards narrow but still explorable.

The no open world thing isn't a big idea either good for trying something new I'm sure the districts are going to be about the size of a big world combined.

This is the first time I'm seeing anything about this game and honestly it got me excited to play. I don't really care about it not being open world, the graphics look beautiful and the gameplay looks pretty fun. And I'm assuming that once you beat the story you're pretty much not going to touch the game again so not having an open world doesn't matter to me.
