My favorite fighting game ever. Me and my brother used to go at it for hours in this. We got it when PS2 first came out and we didn't stop playing it until 2010 . Honestly the reversals is what made the game funner than all the other games. Along with the sidestepping

Lucky. I had no one to play it with. I could only enjoy arcade mode for so long but I’m sure I would’ve played it way more against a person

My parents got us a ps2 bundle from Best Buy the year of release for Christmas. It came with The Matrix, DVD remote, extra controller, vertical stand, Monster s video cables, Nascar 2001, Orphen, & DOA 2. You shoulda seen my face when I fired that last one up 😂

Thanks, I appreciate it :) To answer your question relatively briefly, I'm doing them in release order. I mostly try to intersperse games that are popular and games that i think are less popular, so it's a little method and a little madness. I've only done launch titles so far, but I'm not married to the idea of release order necessarily.

can't think of a better fighting game I've played since my young age. I used to play it a lot with my brother and sister during the first year we received it. After that, I didn't mind playing it alone, just to be able to hear that mesmerizing soundtrack (that still comes to my mind sometimes when I'm working) and find all the collectibles in the survival mode while trying to top the best score for each character. My favorite character gameplay-wise for that mode was Ayane, tho she wasn't my real fav as a whole. Hayabusa was (just fell in love with him since that game and yes, I'm a dude). Also, I found the story quite emotional and the somewhat clever with how some scenes came to show a certain logic when put together (after playing with all the characters). I don't know, that game magnified the vision I had of video games at the time. I loved the mood and the challenge so much. It was a game I didn't know I needed in my life. PS : I tried playing some other DOA games after that one, but they never really grew on me. Something always felt off. I just think many developers back then when in better conditions to create masterpieces like that one. I don't think it's nostalgia that makes me say this. They hadto work around so many limitations that they just had to be more creative and impactful than other companies with what they were trying to bring to the game (the medium).

Love this channel; massive respect for the colossal undertaking you guys are working on. Can’t wait to see what’s next! Out of curiosity, is there a particular order that you’re tackling the PS2’s library in, or just kinda going with what you feel like playing at a given time? Do you/will you take requests? In any case, keep up the awesome work; you deserve to be much bigger than you currently are, and I fully believe that you’ll get there. Thanks for providing inspiration for my own content/reviews/video essays, as well!

Great review. Thx for sharin' some some DOA history especially. Tryin' to get back into older fighting games after experiencing Soul Caliber 1, and Virtua Fighter 4 nostalgia. I think you knew this question might be comin'. What kind of loops am I gonna be hoppin' to experience that evil alien jelly hidden cutscene ya got there?? 👀 Lmao. Always had a knack to crank out the requirements for a hidden cutscene in games. Heh.

You gotta play the JP Dreamcast version to unlock that cutscene, but other than that, I'm pretty sure it involved beating arcade mode on the highest difficulty with the entire roster

@neutral good You clearly weren't gaming in the 90s and early 2000s to say that. All that hoopla about videogames being violent and turning kids into killers. The birth of the ESRB rating, neighborhoods that would burn games, like book burnings. And that's just what I remember...

USE MY EXCITER I really loved this series back then, ended up falling off around DoA 4. I do remember playing this and 3 enough to unlock all the costumes just for the sake of having them, pretty much any excuse to keep playing. Also remember doing A LOT of tag battles with my cousin and our friends, ended up most using Zack and Tina vs my cousin's Leon and Bass so it was funny seeing our initial arbitrary choices be somewhat reflected in the character dynamics of the... Narrative? Either way, great video, been going through what you have, also props for the great AC2 video.

6:08 I don't know about this version of the game ('cause I only played DoA2U on the Xbox) but the male characters have between 6 and 9 costumes each, while the female characters have between 14 and 20 each, many of which are bikinis and school girl outfits - of course. When the ps2 first released I never knew how many games were actually released cause when my brother went to get his he made it sound like fantavision and this were the only games he could get. He never got fantavision, but we played the hell out of this one. Lots of back and forth on who the better player was.

To be fair to your brother though. The ps2 library in 2000 was pretty wack outside of a few good games especially the launch games where most aged and played poorly even then. This game was definitely one of the top tier games for the ps2 in 2000 so your brother picked a good choice.

I played DoA 5 LR (the botched PC version) and I'm seeing a lot of similarities from this. But still, I was quite surprised at how crazy complex the game can get. I'm no FGC person, but I really wonder why it doesn't get as much talk on EVO
@WREPS2GOG4 жыл бұрын
I think DOA6 had a few debacles, including one where Koei-Tecmo got themselves banned from Evo Japan. As well as some pretty predatory microtransactions. And also the preconceptions that people have about DOA probably makes them assume it's not a deep game. Also from what I've heard, competitively, people liked doa5 more than doa6

For real story in fighting games are useless, at best should be just a gag at the ending, but the real meat and potatoes of fighting games are the arcade factor, the gameplay, is that you play for the challenge and the gameplay, the cinematic story thing of the latest street fighter games and mortal kombat games are not good
