Huge Warhammerer here. Started in late 80's/early 90's with 40k and quickly moved to Fantasy. Sold off sadly my armies after End Times and though I gave AoS a massive try, gave up on that about 4 yrs back. I am ALL IN on Old World I live in the US, Northeast, and there's a pretty nice community that is growing. Availability of models is stunting growth but I feel it's just going to keep going as the line develops

@@ThorekIronbrow 3:15 in the video he talked about the legacy factions and core factions getting merged some point because of the success of Old World so far. Not just this video heard a lot of other people across the Old World community saying this, obvs just rumors. I could also see it from a balance standpoint as some of the legacy factions have performed well, others less, so maybe even just a point adjustment for some of the pdfs.... who knows! but regardless I think as the video pointed out things are looking positive for the game and more should be expected for the future of the game.

Games Workshop is doing their best to kill it early. They've raised prices twice on models that haven't even been available since the first day of launch. I had intended to support the Games Workshop lines but I'm going to just start buying proxies because it's WAY TO EXPENSIVE to buy in now.

And yeah, I know it’s frustrating trying to catch MTO and start an army, it doesn’t make things easy in any sense, good thing the game is wider than Games Workshop, I mean, there aren’t official GW tournaments in Australia so using other ranges isn’t an issue here, same with Legacy lists

The Old World is alive and well… despite all the mismanagement from GW. And btw it is also helping AoS because a lot of AoS stuff that went unsold in stores was picked up for tOW (the same happened on GW online store). Personally I’ve bought quite a lot of dwarves to refresh my WHFB collection (2 greywater fastness boxes, 4 boxes of hammers/longbeards, 2 boxes of Ironbreakers/Irondrakes) AND I’ve also bought a box that went unsold at a local store for WE ( with 3 treemen inside plus dryads). NONE of these purchases was for AoS even if GW may assign them to that game.

Sometimes half your army decides to run off the board turn 1 for no reason. Atleast thats what i remember fantsy being like. I won a game on turn 0 because of a depleyment old terror bomb. It was glorious to watch, then we just re wraked and played another game

Have all my old warhammer fantasy stored up in boxes. Some lead, some white metal, monopose plastic from the era when chaos was only one faction and there was no marauders, skaven was a new faction and the toads where a thing of myth, If I’m lucky I got 4 or 5 armies still there. By the look of things old world is a better game, definitely better than 40K at the moment, hopefully they keep the lethality levels low and keep the game centered around movement, maneuverability and the almost chess like feel of the combats. It plays like historic battles. Now I just need an Empire State troops that I can paint in the Carolean style with artillery, muskets and rapier and pistol wielding cavalry and I’m starting my sixth army 35 years after the first. 😍

Old World has some issues and some strange rule design choices, it's not perfect but most people I know find it a much better game than current 40k 10th edition. Content creators that talk about the subject have openly stated that 40k views are dropping away and the game isn't in a good place. SN have dropped 40k coverage and events, along with selling off their own 40k armies to concentrate on Horus Heresy with some Old World coverage as 40k was bringing in very little to the point the channel was in risk of collapse.

Well, actually 6 months... thats miserable. They've done almost nothing. Its just case of logistics and dusting off old molds. I adore idea of Old World but frankly speaking I purchased all minis from ebay (vintage 6th edition) and I am talking from perspective from Dwarf player that I know since few month that dwarfs are almost here.... They could at leat release all arcane journals.... For me the biggest miss in Old World is GW itself.

I was in my local GW store last weekend and asked them where the old world range was. They directed me to the 2 rule books they had in the back bottom shelf corner. I asked if they had any models I could buy and was told it was all mail order to store. They have no hope of drumming up support for the game but only us old timers who played fantasy back in the day to keep the range going and to reminisce

I've been slowly building a Dog's of the War Army for a bit now; Golgfags mercenary ogres is currently 35 strong and is gonna need an A4 movement tray, at least, Throgs darkland despoilers are up to 30 hobgoblins, and Ogla Khan's wolfboys are at 30 models too. There's also a 10 strong ork mercenary unit that could do with some reinforcements, the Alcatani Fellowship that I need to finish building, and the cursed company that I need to find in a box somewhere. All proxies, cos I'm not _that_ insane.

I played my third game so far a couple of days ago and I have to say that I really dislike that there is no step up in combat anymore. That together with impetuos should be omitted imo. It is frustrating that empire troops practically can't do anything but just die. In 8th they would always be able to strike back, and because their stats are dogshit they still weren't op, now their stats are still dogshit but they don't even get get to strike in combat

Yes, the game has huge gameplay problems, but nostalgia is to strong in many people. Try Warhammer Armies project. Way better tabletop game, way better implementation of the lore and way way way cooler armies with a lot more options.

But AOS, altough a good Game System... the Lore and the Units just didn't do it for me. I build Bretonnians and High Elves for AOS. Played their Legend Rules... As someone who never really stopped WFB even after they stopped official support, and has been a very long term player (near to 3 decades now!) it's really interesting to see all these people from other communities and new players coming into TOW. It's not a perfect game, but it has some good ideas and certainly feels like Warhammer. It's a little frustrating how slowly the release schedule is progressing, but a lot of long term players are used to having their hobby without GW support. In terms of more missions, I highly recommend looking into the back catalogue of White Dwarfs and old supplements, as they translate very well into TOW, even the siege stuff works.

I'm a total war player and I'm very interested in playing this game! I've had no previous interest at all. 40K is interesting but there are too few factions. Imperium of man, Tau, Tyrannids, Chaos, Orks, Eldar, Necrons. Old World has The Empire, Kislev, High Elves, Dark Elves, Dwarfs, Chaos Dwarfs, Lizards, Grand Cathay, Green Skins, Vampire Counts, Vampire Coast and that's just off the top of my head. Each one of these have their own motivations and allegiances. You can say that 40K has that as well. E.G. Rogue Traders trying to do what they want and work with Xenos and the Inquisition hating the Space Wolves (and each other) etc but they all more or less bend the knee to the Emperor.

There is a trend amongst fantasy wargamers to return to normal historical wargaming in forties and fifties (tournament average age). You get tired of new updates regarding rules and new and innovative model designs (typical old people conservative thinking). TOW is kinda historical and fantasy hybrid, starting with the Europe/World replica map, I love this concept - it's like kids drawing maps after becoming Tolkien fans xD. Most of people are returning to TOW for those reasons. It's pretty smart for GW to kill the game in order to release AoS for kids gamer culture and planning to rerelease square bases until we mature for 'historical gaming' which tow kinda is. Another important reason, maybe the most important, is lore. I don't have the numbers but it seems TOW:AOS lore count ratio is 97:3 (total war lore expanding the lore, Warhammer FRP, all the novels releases since the beginning of warhammer in the 80s). Another reason is - it's fewer models so it's much easier to paint then hordes 8th edition and this is important for hobby and marketing of the game amongst newcomers. There's nothing more depressing than you seeing a face of disappointed newbies seeing Grey Plastic pile of Shame on Warhammer events. Regarding the sales - new releases being sold out mean nothing if the total circulation of new release minis/books is the equivalent of 10% of the new releases 40k. All the reasons combined Warhammer Fantasy is the first child of GW and the huge lore it offers means with all 3d printing we do it doesn't matter - since we are doing the marketing job for them, hashtagging our creative armies ideas and sharing on social media. Hell, one guy in Edinburgh aka Highland Miniatures is doing better job than the whole GW company at creating thematic models in true WHFB fashion. All is left for GW to do is to hype us with the arcane journals and release more lore. The TOW game will never be as much hyped because they would risk being too popular and giving attention to 3D printing which is zero profit for the company.

I am playing my first Old world game next week at firestorm with a friend ... my first list is 1250 points of Nurgle Daemons .. just been rebasing some of my 40k nurgle stuff so I can run it without having to invest in a new army , if I am unsure if I will like the game system .. Though I do find it odd that there is no terrain as such like in 40k to impact the gaming , objectives etc

Just suffered through reading the Forces of Fantasy armybook, where I had to discover that GW recycled old lore, but rewritten in such a way to include female Bretonnian knights and men-at-arms. Tells me all I need to know about hoping GW would treat with respect the setting that they once had and which once drew me into wargaming . But on a positive note, it did kill my urge to do impulse buying. So I guess I will keep my disposable income in my wallet, merrily ignoring the new GW output and just build and paint the original models I had already accumulated (most current ones are reprints of those anyhow). Turns out I can have my cake and eat it too.

The thing is warhammer fantasy was never unpopular, GW just failed to monetise it. Its why so many people, especially AoS players and GW staffers, are completely taken by surprise by TOW because the PR line is it was dead long before it was killed. That PR line being there because GW isn't able to admit they were wrong. It's like when a really really good film or TV show comes out then you start hearing how it almost didn't get made and the director had to fight the producers to get the best scene to be kept in the edit. The suits don't always know what a person wants.

Oh they monetized it alright. But they price themselves out of customers. I'm willing to pay a premium for GW models but $86 for ONE model is ridiculous. Then they'll discontinue stuff because no one can afford to spend $6k to get every Bretonnian model at once. It's just an unrealistic sales model. I thought they'd have learned that by now. 40 years should be a sufficient learning curve to avoid some of these major oversights.

Until The End Times GW had released nothing major for WHFB for quite a few years, many players had armies and with not many new releases coming out they didn't see the need to spend. They just played the game. Then End Times arrived and GW couldn't keep up with supply for the new rule supplements and completely under estimated demand it was the first time I recall of people queuing before stores opened in desperation to get hold of the few copies that arrived in GW stores. GW could have kept that going, supported it with new releases, etc, but were already committed to the release of Age of Sigmar with it's new no points, no tournament structure, wear a hoodie get rerolls rules that turned away many old hands that enjoyed WHFB. The simple fact was GW wanted and still wants to attract new young gamers who will spend heavily, or have parents who will do the same rather than keep hold of older gamers who have spent plenty and no longer need to carry on spending especially when GW don't release anything new for their faction for years. Even army books could carry on over multiple editions without an update.

well the numbers are not here yet and when it comest to creating artificial scarcity GW is a champion. Judging from how many people play it around me it's a total flop but my experience is not usable data. Then the launch was crap, the fact the prices are so high and the models ancient is also unacceptable... the fact u have to order from GW most of the characters also mobster level stuff. Then we are all old and nostalgic, having a job we can afford it and we buy everything of course but this product is clearly designed to be a niche and boutique treat for us elders, not a mainstream product to rival the horrid Stormcast. The costs for this whole operation were very low for GW so it is possible it's a success nonetheless but let's wait for the figures.

No real support, no good models redesigned or updated quality. I was looking forward to nice model designs. If they reduced the cost due to old models rereleased, would have made it better.

I found this game disappointing magic is pointless and predictable foot troops week combat is slow and boring I prefer playing 9th age better rules better balans more interesting armies

What I currently absolutely hate about this old world launch is that their staggering out the releases of the armies that should be all released at once how am I supposed to play my empire army that I got just a couple of months before it was removed

I have not seen nor heard of anyone playing in my area, at all. You guys need to understand that you are in the Warhammer bubble, espeically in the UK. Where as here in the Colorado, USA, they just removed the table top gaming tables and replaced them with just plastic tables for people who were doing drone and RC racing. There is a place in Boulder but that is a one hour drive to have to meet up with just random people. I know four people at work with Warhammer based tattoos, no one is getting into Warhammer. I have not seen any kids playing as well and I know several teachers who run board game, etc. after school programs. Magic the gathering is huge, but no one is bringing in armies, it's just too much for kids to afford nor again, is there a community as the game has become sort of bougie. That is what I think UK players miss the most. The game is selling, but it is not selling in volume, it's selling in hype and profit margin. Profit margin despises volume sales as it the more rare a product is, the higher the price. GW essentially does it in reverse, raise the cost till only the most hardcore remain, who buy everything of (their) limited product and then charge ever more.

Yeah, the game is dead in many areas and there are no young people playing it. "Back in my days" it was already expensive, but now its just rediculous. With the money i had as a kid i wouldnt be able to start the hobby now and i dont know any parents who are willing to pay hundreds of bucks for a nerdy hobby like warhammer, its objectivly a terrible investment in your kid :D .

Table Top Tactics have seen their Old World Videos tail off in popularity I think which is a shame. But they're paused whilst they do AoS 4th I believe.

I think the problem is that they only have had 5 armies so far. If they did a BR with Skaven, Lizardmen, or Chorfs i could see them picking back up. 3 i think of their BR have been vampire counts so i think people are just waiting to see a new faction.

I really miss the good old days of TT when the B-bone still worked there, nowadays it is really obnoxious with all weird jokes and derpy sounds they make when they play, it is just too much of that for my liking, so I get tired after about 5 minutes and stop watching

Main studio and specialist studio won't share the Skaven army, it's why BoC and Beastmen can't both be core.

They can always re-release old miniatures. It's not about the factions, it's about miniatures - look at night goblins. Two different boxes of more or less same unit. I imagine that in second edition of TOW they can go with "The New World" DLC - with pestilence skaven, lizardmen, vampire coast (VCs) and dark elves.

I tried Old World, but it is just worse than older Fantasy Editions or fantastic fanmade editions like Armies Project. I think the developers realy wanted to make it, but you can feel the shortage of ressources GW gave them and now GW is just milking nostalgia with it. The only thing i realy like is the combat resolution with the different outcomes, but thats all. Magic: terrible boring system and nearly every lore of magic feels the same. To be usefull you always have to play the item to chose your spells, so you dont get garbage. I started playing completly without magic, cause its just not fun enought to waste playtime with it. shooting: There are so many useless ranged units in the game, its impressive. Artillery got big hits too compared to older editions, which isnt ideal in a meta of Hero Hammer. Melee: The Ap-System is just dumb and not connectible with, feels so wrong and random, strength multiplier is just a way more realistic way to solve that. Also some weapons, like the simple hand weapon, just suck. No position swapping characters, casulties cant fight back and so on worked in the past, but dont work in the old world, because there are to many mechanics ruining this mechanics. Balancing: the external balancing is kinda fine, but internal balancing ... Jesus is it bad. There are so many units without any use, realy not thought threw. Also the external balance only works for a certain point range. At small and big games the external balancing is abyssal, based on the terrible and unfair army building. Armies: The removal of several units is just bad. Not including FW models ... okay but already not good. But deleting options? Thats just shitty af. Also a lot of cool rules got lost. Empire for example has not a single army rule. Faction based magic is badly implemented too. Gameplay: its still typical Fantasy. The new combat results make things a little bit interesting, but there are a lot of downsites. Big units are generaly speaking still superior to small units, certain unit types dominate extremly, Hero Hammer. Legacy factions ... well, that alone would be enought for me, to not support GW. Thats just another big "fuck you customers"-move and still people defend it. And one point against the "sold out = good argument". The models were never produced in high numbers, some were/are actually just the rest of the models that lay in the storage and models werent available right from the beginning. I would instead say, its quite poor from GW that they cant provide miniatures for their game. Right now there is just no reason to play a objectivly worse game over better ones. GWs marketing policy and absurd price model for 20 years old models encourage to NOT buy that stuff too. I love Warhammer, i love the lore, i love the characters and i love the gameplay, but right now GW dont deliver that. I have 8 big armies and want to play them, but there is a lot i cant use, especially with my Skaven. With the speed GW actually releases things for Old World, you can wait years for much needed updates and im just not willing to wait for eternity and than buy stuff for way to high prices for a 6/10 product. EDIT: My background -> playing since over 20 years, many of them competitive with some success on a national level. Now i play mostly for fun and fluff. And in all 3 points mentioned Old World doesnt do a good job.

New to old world and fantasy in general, I starting watching lore vids etc about 2 years ago and now am on my 13 gotrek & Felix and have started collecting and painting up an empire army made from highland miniatures. I will be buying when GW release empire stuff but till then I won’t be buying any minis as well…. I’m not particularly interested in collecting another faction! They’re all very cool but I’m a Barry basic I like humans and the empire fluff!

Sole mates played a game s few weeks ago and it was great to see their armies on the tabletop. I recently moved and found sbout a 1500 points of skaven (I though I had sold them all). I've bough new movement trays for the new base sizes and am rebasing some AoS clanrats I quickly bought off ebay. Can't wait to get playing again. Skaven seem to struggle with dragons and monsters and aren't doing the best by all accounts but I look forward to the challenge.

Ive barely seen anyone playing AoS for the last year but every club and games night ive been to has been full of old world. Funny that 👀 The worst bit (for GW) that their refusal to support it with proper releases and what seems like a deliberate effort to make the stuff that has been released really difficult to buy people are turning to 3rd party, 2nd hand and 3d printed to fill the void. Its not an issue to me as a customer but as a shareholder its worrying seeing such a level of incompetence that leads to a ton of money being left on the table

I've only been into 40K specifically since 10th began but I am a lifelong part of the Total War community and I can definitively say that a large percentage of the Total Warhammer community is responsible for the success of Old World. Those players have been hyping up Old World from the day it was announced, getting word out, digging out old models, buying up the refreshed kits, and most importantly ushering new players in since it's nowhere near as expensive as 40K and, from what I hear, not as impenetrable rules-wise. It's the perfect example of a legacy community stepping up and doing the company's job for them. Turin, especially, from the Total War community has been plugging Old World pretty much every tournament he organizes.
