Okay so first of I am not Hating 1) Bettas Need At Least 2.5 Gallons Of Water. And They Need To Live In A TANK not a Bowl. As a bowl spoils bettas eyesight 2) The tank needs to be filtered and heated 3) first, you should acclimate the betta fish, then Net It gently inside (if u get a new betta, only then net it) As YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO MIX THE STORE WATER WITH UR PRE TREATED WATER 4) Was your water even pre treated? You should've at least put water conditioner. 5) your betta fish needs a light in his tank 6) YOU HAVE A SHARP PLASTIC PLANT IN YOUR TINY BOWL!! At least put a silk plant! 7) You CANNOT OVERFEED THE BETTA 4 PELLETS ARE MAXIMUM FOR ONE TIME IN A DAY. 8) NO-NO-NO TO THIS VIDEO 9) I'm NOT HATING JUST TELLING SO U CAN GET A BETTA IN THE FUTURE AND TAKE PROPER CARE! I'm helping you by telling and trust me i am not hating this video! This is a pretty betta pls take proper care 😊

Betta fish are tropical fish from Thailand. Despite what people think they live in rather large bodies of water over there. They need 3-5 or more gallons of water for just ONE. They also need a heater, their proper temperature are 76-82 degrees. They need proper filtration, and they need a properly cycled tank before you put the fish in which can take weeks, even months. When you purchase the fish it needs to be acclimated to the water. And also, fish flakes are a terrible choice for food. They are empty calories that just bloat. A nice pellet is best. It needs it's water changed weekly, maybe bi-weekly. You need to use DECHLORINATED water with a water conditioner. The water parameters also need to be checked frequently with a liquid (not strips) testing kit. Pet stores sell these poor fish in cups and give out wrong care and information. Do your own research before getting these creatures. They are not as easy to care for as one would think.

Actually, it is recommended that you cycle a NEW tank for approximately 2 weeks so that the tank has time to cultivate a good bacteria culture that will help keep the tank clean and ammonia levels low, thus being beneficial for your fish.

Bettas can last pretty long in poor conditions. BUT that doesn't mean they should. It probably didn't last long, that's not rude to say. They should of done their research, got an appropriate tank, condition it properly, supervised her feeding it which I'm sure they did, etc. Betta fish can live very long. It's much better to show a child how long an animal can live when properly taken care of. It's a very important message for life.

Alright, so. You're keeping it in a bowl? And there is no place for him to hide... the rocks seem too bright, you didn't even keep him in the container and put him in the water for 15-20 minutes, that's actually very important to do, you don't have a heater or anything to tell the temperature with! The temperature for beta fish is 76-78°F. I have my red veiltail, his name is Alpha, and he swims right up to me when I go to look into his tank! That betta probably didn't even last a week...

Tank isn't too small for a betta, when you purchase them they come in containers two times smaller. A betta does not require a heater but is recommended, and if you clean the bowl once or twice a week then it will be clean. Lastly, a few pellets aren't going to make the fish obese. Dude learn how to you punctuation and research into this further.

I'm new to fishing,bought a betta last week,asked the ladies if they are edible. Bought 3 more last night,the big one chases the little ones,had to keep them separate,tired of sticking my fingers in there to stop big red from chasing the little bettas. Big red betta chases his reflection. Threw some ants in there,he does not eat them,threw a moth in there,don't thinks he ate. give him betta food,he only eats if it sinks,even then most it it floats to the bottom,and he does not eat it, why the heck is the glass so reflective,it confuses him,and makes him attack his reflection. I have no heater,left the ac on ,woke saw no betta,stuck my finger in,and it was cold,found betta damn near dead,stuck a heat pad in their betta was healthy again in a few hours. betta lie sinking food and food that looks like it's running away from them,they like to hunt living food.I'm going to put them outside and let them feed on mosquito larvae. i might go back and buy all the betta and release them in waterways to help control mosquitoes.

This tank is WAY too small to keep a better - or any fish for that matter in. Betta’s should have a minimum of 2.5 gallons in their tank in order to thrive and live their whole life of around 7 years. IN this tank there’s NO room to fit the much NEEDED filter, heater, and live plants that are required for your bette fish’s health and well being. If you’re looking at buying a betta the start up costs will get you. Food, Prime, Water Conditioner, 2.5 Gallon Tank, Decor/Live plants, Hood/Lights, The Fish itself, Gravel, Filter, and heater! Splurge a bit and give a better life to a betta. DO NOT BUY THIS TANK!

You people are sick. Betta's can not be put in such a small habitat. You need to get better plants . Preferably silk plants, you can find those supplies at petco or petsmart. You need 2 or the 3 decorations so they can hide . Plastic habitats are better than glass. You want to make sure they don't flare because males will do that. Your not caring for the betta fish correctly. I am not trying to hate but this is like animal ubuse. You need to do research before you buy an animal, their living things too. I will list the things you need and for care. 1. You NEED a 2.5 gallon tank NO LESS 2. You MUST only feed 1 little peice of food daily 3. You need a filter or you MUST clean the tank 50% twice a week 4. You need a heater in the tank (they are from a tropical place) At least 75-85° 5. DO NOT POKE THE GLASS 6. Never put bettas together 7. Don't put sharp objects in the tank (It could cut there fins) 8. You need to alcamate them so they get used to the water Please Follow These I really hate seeing these animals abused Yes it is actally ubusing Thank You PLEASE NO HATING ON THIS COMMENT ITS MY OPPION AND REAL HEALTH ISSUES AND CARE FACTS FOR THE FISH

Poor thing! Never put a betta fish in a bowl, Its to cramped for them. Also don't pour the water from the store in with the fish, that's dirty water that could harm a fish and out it under stress with the temp change . I understand this was made in 2011 but still poor thing! It looks extremely unhealthy to, Its colors aren't vibrant enough to be healthy.

@@whocares7854 "Betta buddies" are balls of algae. Also, the reason why bowls are horrible for better fish is because most of them don't reach the minimum size which is 2.5 gallons. Also bowls do not have proper filtration, or heating. Most of all, bowls are very damaging to any fish's eyesight. My betta fish is in a 30 gallon community tank with java ferns, java moss, dwarf hair grass, floater plants and plenty of spaces to hide. He has way more enrichment than a fish in a bowl will have and is a lot more active than a fish w/o a heater. The point is, betta fish are not hard to take care of and putting them in a bowl over a decently sized tank (that you can find for good deals online for kits) is just stupid, in my opinion.

+Spring Howell They do not really need a filter if the water quality is kept adequate with regular water changes because they are air breathers. Plus, if the filter is too strong and displaces too much water, it will cause "current" that the fish will have to constantly swim against. This is a no no because they require calm still water like in their natural habitat. A heater is required if the water temp drops under 80 degrees and the top must be covered to create humidity moist air. When they come up to gulp air, it must be like that or it will cause death due to respiratory problems from breathing in cold dry air. Plants are also necessary because it gives them a sense of security to hide among them and they will even sleep on a leaf. The substrate must also be a natural color and not something gaudy like what you see in this video: It causes stress. Believe it or not, they can live a large bowl if all their other needs are met, but a tank is better. I once kept a Betta in a 55 Gallon tank. I'm sure Kyrone felt like he was living in paradise.
@fatpotg5348
@fatpotg5348 9 жыл бұрын
+Transform987 A filter is not good for a Betta. They are from a still water environment and the filter will cause the fish to constantly swim against water flow. This causes stress and death. The only time you can use a filter is if the tank is large and the filter is not powerful enough to push water in the entire tank. If the Betta can swim in a calm area of the tank, it won't affect him. I once kept a Betta in a 55 gallon tank with only a few corys.

todd marcius You dont know how wrong you are. Betta fish live in 5000+ gallon rice patties, absolutely covered in plants that filter the water, the myth that they live in puddles is absolutely ridiculous, it came from an explorer who happened to be out and about in the dry season, a huge pond was dried to a puddle and he just assumed. so due to that, millions of fish are abused constantly. If you cant give a betta a 1000000 gallon pond, ATLEAST a 1 gallon aquarium. also a bowls round shape causes for less oxygen to enter the water, that causes fish to get sick easily. Plus in anything less than a gallon ammonia builds up fast. (ammonia is a chemical that comes from fish waste.) and ammonia is extremely toxic to fish, as a matter of fact, if a human could feel the pain that fish do in a bowl; it would feel like eating a moth ball, drinking bleach, pouring windex in your eyes and breathing gasoline. yeah, not fun.

Now I have to write another long comment on how to care for betta fish. 😞😔Here goes. Tank size: Bettas need at least 5 gallons to be happy best 10 gallons or more. It needs room to swim. Do not put two or more male bettas in the same tank. Only put a male and a female in the same tank if they are both ready to breed, the male has made a bubble nest and you have a large tank with a removable divider in it. If you are a starter to betta keeping, I do not recommend starting to breed them. Substrate: your betta will appreciate it most if you add a natural looking substrate. If you add a light substrate, don’t have too much light as this promotes algae growth. Sand and small pieces of gravel is fine. Do not use pebbles for substrate as your betta will most likely try to wedge them self between the rocks, it will get trapped. Plants and decoration: all fish tanks require live plants to help the nitrogen cycle to keep your tank clean. I recommend Marino moss balls as betta fish love these. Bettas like Java moss and Java fern too. There are lots of plants out there. If you consider adding fake plants, do not use plastic as a betta’s fins are extremely delicate. Use silk instead. Add hiding places for the betta as they are curious fish who love to explore. Water: add water conditioner to remove chlorine from the tank. Change 25% or your water every week and test your water parameters every 2 weeks. I recommend the API master water test kit. If you have a new tank, remember to cycle the water for 3-4 weeks to help the beneficial bacteria grow. It is a must to add in a heater, a filter and you can get an air pump Introducing new fish: when putting fish into a tank, the fish needs time to adjust to the water in its tank. Every 5-10 minutes let’s some water into his cup/bag. Once you’ve done that 3 times, turn the cup/bag sideways so the fish can swim out at its will. Try not to pour the fish in as drastic water changes might kill fish which is why you should slowly let the water in. Food: give your betta a varied diet. If your bettas main meal is going to be pellets, feed them 3-4 pellets twice a day. You can also feed your betta flakes. Remember to add food like bloodworms, brine shrimp and daphnia to his diet. You can buy these foods live, frozen or freeze-dried. If your fish is constipated, boil a pea for a minute or so, take the skin off the pea and split into half. You can cut one half into small pieces so they will fit into your bettas mouth. Feed the cut up half one piece at a time. You can throw away or eat the other half. If you decide not to use the pea method, try finding a food high in fibre and before you give it to your betta, check if it is ok to feed that food to your betta. Disease: bettas can get many diseases so be prepared with a quarantine tank if your betta lives in a community tank! The quarantine tank doesn’t need to be large 2 gallons is fine. These are some diseases: popeye, cloudy eye, neon tetra disease, dropsy, fin/tail rot and a lot more. Please research diseases bettas get to ensure your bettas safety. Tank mates: observe you betta and spend time with it. Find its personality. You can use a mirror to play with you betta no more than 5 minutes a day. If your fish is aggressive and flares at many things, don’t get a tank mate. If it is a peaceful fish, you may consider adding tank mates. Here are a few tank mates you can have for your betta: tetras, rasboras, guppies, loaches, catfish and a lot more! That’s the basics hope that helped! :3 But I’m just saying but you can’t compare NEMO to a betta. Nemo is a CLOWNFISH which is a salt water fish and a betta is a freshwater fish

I have had my beta (Luna) for over 3 years now. She has been in a half gallon tank her entire life. She swims around like crazy and plays with her plant by swimming through it as fast as she can. Small tanks DO NOT hurt betas in any way. If I start to wave at her she starts moving her find faster and when I stop she stops and goes back to swimming. There is nothing wrong with having betas in small tanks or any smaller fish in a tank like this if there is only one of them! It does not "stress them out" or "depress them". Just don't over crowd the tank or put more than one in a tank that small and it will be fine! (I do recommend at least a half gallon size tank for every fish though and nothing smaller)
@otraxo
@otraxo 9 жыл бұрын
Just because your fish has survived for 3 years doesn't mean that its in a happy or healthy state. Research has already shown that a small tank DOES hurt Bettas. The extreme minimal for Bettas is One Gallon. The reasoning behind some of the tank measurements has to do with not only allowing space to swim and for the inclusion of plans and obstacles, but also for properly regulating temperature. I'm glad to hear that you somewhat care about the animal you have decided to own, but you are not observing any scientific fact or studies that have actually been done on properly building a healthy Betta habitat. Even the tank shape can be important as some fish prefer a long fish tank rather than tall.

I know how to tell if a betta is healthy, it has almost everything to do with their color, shes still just as bright and happy as the day I got her. she does tricks in the water and when I wave at her she starts moving her fins faster back at me. she is perfectly fine.

All these comments are so annoying. The man who sold me my betta had his fish in a one gallon tank with some live plants and a moss ball. Moss balls act as natural filters and are a lot cheaper than some. Some of y'all get way too into these fish and act like they're so expensive and they need like three miles worth of tank to be "comfortable". Do these fish talk to you? Probably not. Not every betta is the same, so stop commenting about how the fish probably died after two weeks. Even if the tank didn't have a filter, they could have cleaned the tank more often than most people do WITH a filter.

Finally someone with some sense! I totally agree! My betta is in a bowl just like and I have him for three years. I clean it out once a week. My last betta fish was two years old and I upgraded to a 2.5 gallon tank with everything and it died within three days. I only use bottled water for them, too. My betta fish will only be in a bowl like this. You can tell it is happy and still alive.

Kayli Boucher Their natural lifespan is 6-8 years. In captivity (if cared for properly) they can live up to 4 or 5. So two years is actually pretty short for betta fish. And bowls are fine but 2 or 3 gallon bowls will make for healthier fish.

***** I did weeks of researching on my fish before I actually got one. Not only did I listen to the person who I bought it from, but I DID search around on the internet. I'm not some dumbass who buys a fish for the hell of it. Recently I upgraded my tank because I noticed the original one cracking at the top of it. His tank is now two gallons, still without a filter. And my fish has yet to experience any medical problems of any sort! I use water conditioner whenever I clean his tank (which is twice a week depending on how it looks.) Not everyone is a complete ignoramus and not everyone knows everything. And I definitely don't think you know everything. So don't try to lecture someone who already knows enough about how to take care of my pet.

My fish isn't unhappy. And I know this because I had to go to Arizona for four days and when I came back my fish wasn't as colorful as he was before. I asked my dad if he had been taking care of him like I asked, and he said he was. I researched it, hoping my dad hadn't lied to me. The day after I returned he started getting all his color back. He had gotten upset because I had been gone for so long. To make my fish any happier than he is now I'd probably have to release him to where betta fish live.

If I had a betta I would probably keep it in a 10 gallon with some neons, live plants and driftwood. It can be harder to keep small bowls clean. Especially with no filtration. And the water will evaporate super fast. Betta's are tropical fish so the water needs to be between 72F and 82F. As long as the water is cleaned and kept in a warm room there should be no problem keeping a betta like this. I wouldn't do it because small fish bowls don't appeal to me. I have a 30 gallon cichlid tank. Just my opinion.

Congradulations on her first beta! Here are some tips to help His tank should be at least 2 gallons and he should have lots of places to hide. When feeding, three flakes in the morning and three at night are more than enough, even if he seems starving, believe me when I say they will eat endlessly. Over feeding will kill it faster than underfeeding. Make sure you research illnesses with the fish and keep the water clean. If you can't get a filter, changing the water once a week should work fine. If you can't get a heater, make sure you keep the room he stays in nice and warm. That should get you started, I hope I helped ^^

This bowl is not acceptable for betta care. Bettas need at least a 4 gallon tank. If less than that this can cause the fish stress or depression. Stress will give the betta what is called "stress lines" that can kill it. Depression likely won't kill the betta but it makes it sad and unhappy. Also you need hiding places for the betta you can't just have one little plant. They need hiding places because they were first wild obviously and out in the wild they needed places to hide from predators like larger fish. Every body thinks they can just throw their betta in a tiny Bork and not even care. Well you're wrong.

We can all agree he doesn't need ba filter. I would say feed Nemo a few less pellets be because you don't want to over feed him. You could buy a small outside thermometer so you can check if the water is too hot or cold. 72-85°f mostly for betta fish. Clean the tank properly and, well, that's all I have to say! Notice how they told her she can't do certain things and how what she must do to keep it alive? So what if the fish dies because it lacked a filter, proper food, ect. Like you all are gonna spend a lot of money on just one fish really people? come on now stop picking on the these guys and look at yourselves for once I'm pretty sure you guys have done the same thing at some point whether your pet was a Dog , Cat ,Fish ,Bird or Hamster you've at least bought something that was bad for your pet or didn't know how to take care of it

+GabbyGameboy see, you're the kind of person who thinks fish are 'disposable' pets. MANY people, myself included, have spent a lot of money making sure our pets are thriving, not surviving. in great conditions i've met people who had bettas live up to 5-10 years. when you give them the conditions they need, their true colors shine through. my little Jerry has a whole 10 gallon all to himself and spends no time sitting around when there's so much to look at and enjoy and gets nothing but the best food and equipment. it's worth the investment and enjoyment of making a small life better. that said, it doesn't cost hundreds of dollars to get the fucking bare basics of betta care. simple filter? $20. Simple heater? $15. A 10 gallon? $10. There you fucking go, just a little bit more expensive than getting useless bowl with some clown puke colors cause "oooh it's pretty!". even decor is simple. a bag of pool filter sand is $12 and plastic plants aren't more than $10 usually and you can go out and get your own AQ safe rocks from the damn park. a betta cramped in a bowl with a sharp plastic plant and nothing new to look at and explore is going to be a sad fucking betta that sits at the bottom all day doing jack shit and end up suffocating and burning from lack of properly treated water and ammonia build-up or over-feeding leading to life threatening obesity. don't fucking buy an animal if you're not going to research how to take care of it you dense fuck. every life matters. and don't fucking start about "oh it's to show her how to be responsible!" they can fucking do that without killing a damn fish in the process. they over-fed the poor thing on the first go.

+End Prince You do realize its a kid with a responsibility right? go back to being a kid and try spending your own money on just one tiny fish I never said fish are disposable.

GabbyGameboy well, you clearly didn't take a minute of your time to completely read my message. again with the responsibility bullshit. a damn child shouldn't have the 'responsibility' of taking care of a living breathing animal if they don't even know how to use a fucking toilet. by saying "it's just a fish" you're implying it's not worth the effort, thus you're saying they're 'disposable' animals. it's pretty obvious you don't care about the well being of the fish itself, only whether or not the kid is getting a good life lesson at the cost of the fish's life. good job, you're probably a kid yourself who doesn't know jack about what they're talking about.

i suppose the term 'replaceable' would be simpler for you to understand, i didn't mean literally disposable. well, you clearly have nothing to counter literally any points i've brought up, don't know why i even expected anything. i'll take my leave and we can consider this over.

oh, get over yourselves. I've had 2 perfectly healthy betta fish that have lived long lives in 1 gallon bowls with no filter. I clean the water regularly and feed them 3 times a week. Anything has to be better than the tiny little cups they come in.

I understand why this video is getting a lot of hate, but it was a cute idea, it just needed a bit of work. My parents and I made these mistakes when I was little too. For the fish to have a good life and be happy (therefore swimming more and being more interesting) a bigger tank (5 gallons Is the minimum the beta should be in) and a heater and filter will go a long way! Adding these things will increase the lifespan of your fish too! Good luck with your beta, and have fun!!!

is 10 gallons enough for 2 beta fish?
@finchtoss3442
@finchtoss3442 8 жыл бұрын
It can be, but the bigger it is, the less chance there is for the two girls to get stressed and fight. Maybe divide it and let them each have 5 gallons. : >

ninjapiglava101 it depends if you are getting a 2 females it should be good but you can't put to males into a tank together unless you have a divider.

ninjapiglava101 you should never have two betta fish in the same tank. unless you have a divider. females can be just as violent.

"let's hope he doesn't die"??? DUDE. he will. you are an adult, act like one. if you really want to teach your kid respect and work ethic and fun, take her to the library to read about fish care, betta fish care, basic chemistry and microbiology of fishtanks (she can read kid's books and you can do actual research like you should ALWAYS do for ANY animal) and then make a proper fishTANK (not glass sippy cup) for the betta. please.
