+Skyla Jade Forster (Sky) You probably already know this and anyway dont take it as something personal. Documentaries arent something that by law has to cover the real and only truth, or even parts of truth. Its simply a way of conveying information via movies or short shows. However, due to the heavy use of "Documentary" when conveying important truths and real issues, the name has become a symbol of reality and something you can believe in and know to be true.

"Deadliest Warrior" was always a silly, silly show. I remember when they had a "Knight vs. Pirate" episode. They completely ignored the many times the Knights of Rhodes actually fought Barbary pirates in the 15th century, and instead paired their idea of a medieval knight with their idea of an 18th century pirate from Caribbean waters.
@fukyomammason8 жыл бұрын
Especially since pirate is a vocation as old as naval trade and travel. It would have made just as much sense to have a modern pirate ventilate the poor tin can with a Cold War era lmg and then blow his corpse to bits with an rpg. Also there is approximately a 0% chance that anyone working on that show has any idea what or who Barbary pirates were.
@superlive988 жыл бұрын
Actually, I'm pretty sure they did, since a lot of their technical advisers were former US Marines.
@fukyomammason8 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure how that's relevant.
@mpaladin5298 жыл бұрын
Because its in the first line of the USMC hymn? Or maybe because U.S. Marine officers carry Mameluke swords? The USMC kicked the snot out of the Barbary pirates during the Barbary wars (and took their swords). This ended the Barbary pirates as a power because Europe went "that upstart nation kicked their ass, why are we afraid of them again?"
@fukyomammason8 жыл бұрын
That doesn't mean they know any of that history, or that they have any knowledge of people in that era (especially since we're talking specifically about 15th century pirates, before America existed as a sovereign nation). The Marines as an institution may have fought and beaten pirates from North Africa, but I highly doubt anyone involved with the show is over 200 years old. Saying that just because they're Marines, they know about the somewhat obscure history of North African pirates in the Mediterranean and how they fought is like saying everyone in the House of Lords knows how to fight in plate armor on horseback. Actually, it's even more absurd, because I have to imagine the Lords all received higher education. I doubt most of the technical advisors even knew where Tripoli was. Of course, all of this is irrelevant because if they'd known anything at all about the history of piracy they would have at least touched on the Knights of Rhodes (and, indeed, the Marines as well). They wanted to make a show about people hitting each other with funny bits of metal, and they did. The show sucks, stop defending it.

What I find funny is that the "ninja" of the show was not a historical ninja, but a Hollywood ninja. Just everything from the ninja outfit to the ninjatō is pure Hollywood.

I thought the same thing. I was like, wakizashi? No... Katana? No... I had to look it up, like The Fuck is a ninjato? Turns out it isn't. Although there is some validity to the black egg. Sand and glass and other irritants were commonly used as diversion.
@TheSimpleMan4548 жыл бұрын
There would be no fight. Ninja killed quietly, in the dark or from a distance. Training gets you nowhere when your asleep, or otherwise unconcious, or your lungs constrict, or your heart stops entirely. Ninja fought underhandedly and through subterfuge. It wouldn't come toe to toe.

The biggest issue i have with Deadliest Warrior is that they don't really emphasize enough, that the battle at the end of each episode is just a dramatization. The winner is picked out of an algorithm that runs like 100 match-ups. But the battle shown is just there to demonstrate each weapon they talk about in an entertaining way. This results in the battle being drawn out long enough for each weapon to be used, and many tactical mistakes being made. In reality the duel would've likely ended quickly with the first weapons.

The episode that pissed me off the most was Ninja vs Spartan. The ninja tossed powdered glass and chili powder in the other guy's eyes, and he just shook it off like it was water... No... just no... I don't care how tough you think you are, you don't just roll with that. Not only that, but the particulate matter alone would blind you, regardless of what it is... Glass would render your eyes completely fucked unless removed immediately. As much as I think the whole idea of "ninja" most people have is too romanticized and mythologized, I still think they got shafted.

I hated that show. I KNOW that suit wearing programmer was definitely, absolutely rigging the numbers in the simulation program. It never took into account what was actually discussed in the first half of the show. Like The Jaguar Warrior's leather armor was unable to be penetrated by arrows. As someone who has made bows, and shot a carbon fiber arrow 75 feet into a seacan (I missed the target) which dented it a good half inch, as well as snapped the arrow clean in half. That is a good deal of penetration power from an amateur's oak short bow. A real Aztec bowyer would be able to probably create something with better feet per second on the shot, thus, more penetration power. So, how did a javelin manage to penetrate the armor in their ending shown simulation? The programmer rigged his program in my opinion. So many times the one that really should have won lost. Knight Vs Pirate. They stated the pistol type needed to be packed, stuffed, then a bearing of sorts as a bullet afterwards. You had to keep it pretty much at the ready or things would mess up. The stuffing might come loose and the powder packing might not make contact. The bullet might fall out. So finicky you would hate having to use one after trying a modern gun. Again in their own final shown simulation the pirate rolls over from face down to on his back holding the gun and fires in the knight's face. Total bullshit. You should show that. Do a show on all the bullshit that show was portraying, You could find one per show of them showing at the end something happening that you either know would NEVER happen, or they specifically stated it wouldn't happen. I agree with your statements of it being entertainment, cause they weren't unbiased.
