The state needs to stop paying "homeless subsidies" to out of state people. They are coming in from all over the country because of the subsidies and the weather. Would you rather be on the street in a place with freezing temps and snow all winter or a place with sunshine, mild temps and no snow?

From the looks of it they collect junk and leave the area trashed. Landlords don’t want to deal with this. It costs money to evict, repair the damages, time and effort to collect on nonpayment of rent. Landlords should not have to put up with their disrespect. If they could follow the rules they most likely wouldn’t be homeless. It is their choice then to live like this.

She shouldn’t lose her benefits because she gets a job. That’s where the system is broken. There needs to be a time of transition while she has a job being homeless on the street and transitioning into an apartment. Building is not easy and there needs to be allocations for the transition time of at least 18 months, when the system of people over the system put that in place, the transition money that is needed, while they are doing a new job so they can be sustainable and not become homeless again, then we can start attacking the homeless problem. And by the way, what happened to these so-called entrepreneurs pre-pandemic that were going to come together and put all their money in one pot to help the homeless situation what ever happened to those people I sure like to know.

Nothing will change until the city or the state changes how they deal with these homeless. They are chronically either addicted to drugs, alcohol, have mental issues, etc. It should be mandatory institutionalization for those camping on the streets. Give them so many chances to leave or else they come under control of the government. They cannot manage their own lives, and the way they live prevents citizens from safely and cleanly enjoying their properties and the public spaces. Imagine having a business (Whole Foods) with an encampment right outside its doors. I also think the warm climate attracts them to come to California. They wouldn't last a week outdoors up here in the northern states in the winter.

Yes, people definitely prefer living on the streets than having a 40hr a week job to be able to have a roof over their head. MAny Cali homeless have jobs, maybe two. These homeless people are a symptom, not the problem. Marginalizing their struggle and dehumanizing them, might help you deal with it,, but it doesn't help, and in fact means you are part of the problem. Have a nice life.

Never thought I'd see a city turn into a third world eyesore especially in California....people have to want to solve their problems....these people want to live like this as many have been on the streets for years...the percentage of people who were of the working class and lost their homes and jobs and ended up on the streets is very small compared to the numbers who have taken over the city streets as their residence by their own choice...California attracted these people because the big cities started providing some help and the word got out...now, Calif houses most of the homeless...30% or more of the homelesss in the U.S. ...these people migrated from all the other states who wouldn't put up with the drugs and alcohol abuse or the trashing of their cities...for about 2 years I watched groups of homeless people..mostly young alcohol and drug abusers migrate through our town in mid-California...we didn't put up with their trashing our city and so they decided to move on to a big city where liberals are so happy to help them with their abuses...S.F. actually hands outr free drug parapherbakua....and how do the homeless repay the city...they crap on the streets...do drugs in the open in front of businesses....and destroy business areas....that's gratitude for you...

La crosse, WI was a prime example of this very thing. The city decided to allow the homeless to set up camp in a city park away from the touristy areas. People were coming in from all over the bordering states because they heard of this and that the police are not monitoring the park. It turned into a big party place. I even had a client give up his apartment to go camp at the park. Well, for everyone that didn’t like following rules of the landlords, shelters, hotels and motels, the encampment turned into turf cliques with rules people had to follow. There were a couple of deaths, one a murder. Lots of overdoses and the surrounding clinic, hospital and residential areas were preyed upon by some of the homeless people. It was a disaster! The same city paid for the sheltering of homeless people in a huge hotel for the overflow of the Salvation Army and a Catholic Charities program. Lots of drug use, police contact and violence. Another disaster. Until the drug problem and mental health issues are addressed this will be the norm. I fear it will get worse.

@@cbx500cbx So you think all that land out there does not belong to someone? Most land is owned, also, the reason these people live close to towns is convenience. Close to bathroom facilities, stores, benefits offices and the safety aspect, especially for women. Also, people may offer to help in the form of money or goods. Moving these people on is a POINTLESS task because they have to set up a "home" somewhere, they don't just disappear from the planet when forced to leave. Maybe do what Australia does, allow these people to live in their tents on unused land and have paid workers clean the area around them weekly. Australia has accepted that the spike in homelessness is due to a lack of affordable housing and they have accepted until that issue has been solved, people have to sleep and live somewhere and the numbers are going to keep increasing until somebody decides to solve the problem.

Job,jail or rehab.Take your pick. Out of state "homeless" sent back so their state taxpayers deal with it. No free housing for anyone. What an absurd concept. If youre an adult ,you work.We are not babysitters or caregivers for criminals and lazy bums .We need to vote out the politicians who have normalized this anarchy.

And the weather. If I could afford to move, I would go way up North. I would not mind at all ice coming out my nose if it meant that I could walk down to the 7-Eleven on the corner without having to get beg from three different times. I'm barely off the streets myself, I've got enough for a roof over my head, unlimited internet, and I can afford to eat healthy from my own kitchen food that I cook. But I can't even step outside to check my mailbox without somebody asking me for something, it is exhausting. I would love to move up to the Frozen North somewhere.

Over three events I've experienced over 10yrs of homelessness in three different cities. My experience is that the people in these encampments do not want a shelter (admittedly many shelters are very bad places), nor do they want involvement in any kind of a program to get them off of the street. A large percentage of the homeless population are criminals and crazies. First thing to do is round up the criminals and The crazies and put them into the proper programs, the few that are left will benefit from the government money and programs... And we absolutely need to stop spending government funds on people who entered our country illegally. I got no problem with immigrants, I got no problem with non-Americans, but they need to come in legally.

A big problem is that rents are too high in Los Angeles and the requirements to get a place are impossible for a transitioning unhoused person to meet. Studios in the worst neighborhoods start at $1500. If you have bad credit, no landlord reference, not a job that pays 2-3X the monthly rent, they can’t get a place even if they have money and a job and the $4500 required to move in. And if they have an eviction record then they are really screwed. I know they are often on drugs and booze, but for many, it starts off as a matter of landlord greed and policy.
