Deadly Carbon Monoxide - How To Do Venting Test. A simple method to test your gas water heater or gas appliances. Carbon monoxide could and can be deadly. This is only a test if you don't have a CO detector in your home. Warning ! this test is NOT to measure the exact amount or how much CO or CO2 is in your home and should not be relied on for safety. A Carbon Monoxide Detector should be used in your home. This Test is only a guide to show if the airflow in your venting system is working correctly. And please if in doubt or not sure what you are doing please call a certified repair company on this. Thank you for watching and please check out some of my older videos. Peace to all of you.

You should have both the water heater and the furnace on when you test venting, since they are sharing the same vent. Sometimes an appliance vents well, but then when the furnace is on, it won't.

Power vent could blow down into the water heater?
@MrTachyon
@MrTachyon Жыл бұрын
@@tedlahm5740 Yes, that’s possible. Sometimes the vent pipe size does not have enough capacity for both appliances, or it has a long horizontal run, has debris inside, or it’s disconnected in attic, etc. There’s a number of things that could be going on.

That’s the correct way to check to see if the chimney is drawing..pulling fumes up the chimney. Do both appliances separately then with both on. It doesn’t necessarily make CO. It’s typically co2 and water vapor . If something is awry then C O can be made.

Thanks for this video. What do you do if the smoke doesn't get sucked into the flue? Also, This may not apply to the water heater in your video - But, according to the instructions in the AO Smith install manual for my water heater, the water heater in your video is not vented properly. They recommend at least 12" of vertical vent pipe before the first elbow. And they say "Do not common vent this appliance with any power vented appliance." The installation in your video is breaking both of these rules. But, as I said, they may not apply to the water heater in your video. Just sharing what I read in my AO Smith owner's manual.

Correct , it was an older water heater. I now have a power vented one. The furnace is now vented by its self also. If your water heater is heating it should draw the flame or smoke of the match up the vent but not at no heat. Good comment and thank you.

This does work . I want to say please be safe you guys also if you are using your fire places because of the high cost of propane now . Have your chimney check out if you haven't used it in a while . Flames or gas can enter your home .The news people are saying theirs a lot of fires lately from not being up to code or bad . You don't want back draft or smoke to enter you home and get co2 poisoning . So please make sure its working right , ok my friends .
@DONALD1951

CO2 is carbon dioxide . Flue gas is typically not carbon monoxide but if there not enough dilution air or if the gas appliance is not burning clean then it can make carbon Monoxide. You must do that test with the appliance ON otherwise it means nothing.

broderp you want the flue under negative pressure but your area around the boiler you want under positive pressure as if was under negative can pull products of combustion into the area and cause you some damage

Match test doesn't tell if CO levels are safe regardless of airflow. Always hire a professional to make sure your water heater is safe.

Don't hire a professional. They show up for a short time and only get a snapshot of what the airflow situation is day after day, week after week.

Find out if the vents are clogged all the way to the out side of your house. I would Not sleep if drafts are coming back into your home until its fixed. I would call a repair guy asap because people die from improper venting okay.
