Not a good idea, many rattlesnakes have stopped rattling their tails since people kill them when they do. They’re becoming more dangerous since we keep blindly fearing them instead of respecting them and their ability to kill.

@@Wizop I’ve seen several videos of rattlesnakes refusing to rattle their tails when confronted by humans. It’s been stated by reptile experts that rattlers are evolving smaller tails and not rattling them. There’s a reason why rattle snakes are listed as the 2nd smartest snakes, only beat by king cobras
@Wizop
@Wizop 8 ай бұрын
@@metaknight115 rattlesnake don’t always rattle. This has been known. But they arnt not rattling or not growing a rattle cause of humans lol. These rattlesnakes, most famously the Santa Catalina Rattlesnake, live on uninhabited islands off the coast of Baja California, Mexico. They lose their rattles, most likely, because they simply don’t need them, or possibly to help them hunt birds more effectively. Other rattlesnakes tho respond to stress differently. Studies of how rattlesnakes respond to stress, specifically in urbanized areas, show that they are pretty good at learning and responding to these situations. When rattlesnakes are around a source of constant activity (like a hiking trail, backyard, etc), they may have elevated levels of stress hormones, and behave differently. It’s not cause they are being killed lol. They don’t know other rattlesnake are being killed. They just live in well populated areas with high traffic around them so they know the difference between just random noise and noise from prey. ( all this was copied from rattlesnake solutions)

We moved back to Florida 2004, lived @ Avalon Park in Orlando. At the time there was a lot of new residential construction and my 4 yr old daughter was playing in the yard & bit on the ankle by a snake 🐍. My mother-in-law was watching the girls and thought nothing of it. I asked my 7 year old to describe the snake to me over the phone. It turned out she was bit by a PYGMY RATTLESNAKE & had to be rushed to the hospital. The blessing was that only one fang injected venom into her, the other fang was a dry bite. It was over $100,000 to treat her with anti-venom for several days. Personally, I’m terrified of snakes, but I respect them immensely. I grew up in St. Lucie County (Lakewood Park in the 70s & 80’s our playground was like Deer Meats Ranch - full of palmettos and pines & oak trees. In between school, we swam, fished and lived in the woods. I lived in Los Angeles for 20 years, decided to move my girls out of the concrete jungle to Florida where I grew up & let them experience what I did at that age! Within a few months she gets bit by rattlesnake. 😮 that was not in the plans! Thanks for the video ROBERT!

Hey Rob, I'm a herpetologist and ecologist who studies rattlesnakes. I really appreciate you relocating the animal rather than dispatching it. Eastern diamondback (Crotalus adamanteus) populations aren't doing great at all in Florida. One suggestion though. It is recommended you relocate no further than a mile and away from busy roads preferably down a hole. I love how you understand ecology and don't unnecessarily kill animals because they can be potentially dangerous. Keep up the great work! I love your videos!

Needless to say our rattlesnake had a sad ending & did not see another day. We used to have lots of Diamondback rattlesnakes & pigmy rattlesnakes out in Jupiter Farms & all of south Florida when I was growing up. We live in AZ and see rattlers all the time. The fire department will come out for free and "relocate" them for you. They have a special pole with a curved hook on the end that they use, to place them into a 5-gallon bucket. I want to say for those who have gotten bitten around here, that the anti venom is around $25K to start. I also want to say that most people bitten do live, but not without getting really ill and swollen body parts.

I agree with all replies under @michaelgomez3044. DMFD sometimes gets way too preachy for his own good. I've seen him do some really nutty stuff in his many videos that I just shake my head at: such as, usually walking barefoot in the woods, scrub brush, and the list goes on and on. It only takes one bite to mess up your day, and the way he handled this rattler, was careless at best. Snakes are lightning fast, as you know, and can strike up to 1/3 their body length. He was holding that snake WAY too close to his legs. He ain't no Crocodile Dundee! All I can say is I would not take any of his advice as gospel. Reach out to an expert.
