I wish I understood what makes deadmau5 tracks sound so much better and satisfying than almost anything else. The only thing I've noticed is that he doesn't use unnecessary sounds. Many tracks are so cluttered you can't hear clearly what's going on. Deadmau5 tracks are always crisp, clear. When it pops it pops; when it slides it slides.

Not just that, but the vocal processing is incredible as well, the lead voice alternates between being omnipresent and very focused, all during thematically appropriate places in the song, it like hangs in the air in front of my head, when most voices through my headphones are either in the middle or behind. Stereo separation and imaging is so well done, the bass is powerful yet doesn't take up the space of anything else, not just in frequency, but in actual 3D space. I don't know how he does it so well man, years of practice and innovating on his methods I guess.

Deadmau5 is a legend at this point. I think it was 2008 when I first noticed him. I went to a NYE Armin Van Buren ASOT. It was an 8 hour set for Armin. A world record I think at the time for the crowd size. I was locked in all 8 hours. But my only regret was Deadmau5 was playing outside on one of the other 2 stages and I had no idea who he was. And then I went home and discovered his random album title, and I couldn’t believe it.

I just saw Deadmau5 live for the first time at DAER. Quite literally the most transformative experience ever. I had to go alone, none of my friends had the time or money. Every, single, thing about this track is just so thoughtfully produced. The percussion seems like a boring 4 on the floor beat sure, but every different sound in it has multiple layers, the snare alternates between center and stereo wide, but not in a way that's instantly predictable. The hats are just the right length, and they sound so naturally placed, like they're on the upper right of the imaginary drum kit or something. Skylar's voice hangs omnipresent, and it's SO clean, it doesn't overlap with anything. The processing accentuates all of her natural harmonics and raises the frequencies it occupies in the mix but without making it sound trebly and harsh. Moreover, the interplay between the main vocal which is super wide and in front of you as the listener and the background vocal which is super clean, minimal, and hanging in the air directly above you is also beautiful. A subtle touch you don't notice right away but it contributes so much life. The bass is crazy too, it's incredibly powerful but both it and the kick drum hit hard in the low frequencies (something that isn't by any means trivial to achieve, even with aggressive sidechain), they never get in the way of one another. Another thing I noticed is that even though I'm listening in stereo on headphones, sounds appear to not only come from a 2D plane in line with the middle of my head going left to right, they come from the front as well, which for me is an experience I've found rare. Often sounds only come from the side and the rear, especially with vocals, but here the vocals along with some of the percussion are coming from in front of my head, incredible. Finally, I'd like to mention the piano chords in the bridge section. Play that on a real piano, it won't sound that good. Those low frequencies along with however that piano is EQ'd are amazing, so lush and ward like I've very rarely heard. I know I'm being like an autistic level of analytical here, but every new song Deadmau5 releases I'm just in awe of how well it's mastered. This man is the best in the business.
