You can add Jiar to the kill list when we see Pedro having his breakdown at the final scene. If we look to the top left of the shot we can see that the chimney is bellowing out smoke, hinting at him having killed the still possessed boy and burning his remains in the fire. This even serves as a callback to Pedro having tried killing the boy in a similar fashion in the past. Pedro's brother (during the final shot) is even shown acknowledging the smoking chimney and physically looks to understand what has happened. I love this movie very much. It is the freshest and most entertaining/compelling horror movie that I've seen in years. Damian Rugna made a fan out of me with this one and I will be keeping tabs on his future works.

It's so rare that a horror movie can include kids without it feeling like they're solely doing it for shock factor. So refreshing to see a movie where they aren't giving them plot armor, but also aren't doing it for zero reason. At least they made sense. So good!
@baydiac6 ай бұрын
Yup. Every child that dies/meets a terrible fate can immediately be blamed on an adult in their immediate vicinity. In so many horror movies they hurt kids just to upset the viewers/give the parent characters trauma, but in this one it's blatant cause and effect. If the parents had bothered to PAY ATTENTION and PRIORITIZE appropriately the kids would've made it. That's a fact. But the fact that the parents in this movie are neglectful is part of the plot. (You don't get restraining order-ed and you don't cheat on your spouse without jeopardizing the safety of your kids. Duh.) When the father chose to hang out in the car with the grown autistic kid when there was a little boy left unattended in the house as a result I literally rolled my eyes. That's such a classic neglectful parent move it's practically funny. I predicted the father was going to do it before he did it. Now that's knowing your subject matter right there! Gg to the team behind this film.

When Evil Lurks is fantastic in so many ways, especially with Jair. As an autistic person, Jair was a refreshing change to the constant savantism representing autism in media. His struggles were also well laid out, with him being nonvocal for the majority of the film and the popsicle with the sticky hands being a terrible sensory input. Jair being tough to get out of bed and just the general physical movements of the actor were very well done (although I couldn't say if Jair's actor is on the spectrum or not). The line of "the devil being in him" and then it getting completely shut the fuck down is incredibly refreshing. Although it can be difficult to represent this, especially in a film like this, I think When Evil Lurks at least touched on ablism well, most media will have characters blatantly say something poor about another and then use autism as their reasoning. This doesn't allow for people to say "I would totally say something!!!" It isn't a ton of obvious "because they're autistic" rhetoric, so those who actually call that shit out actually care about autistic people, not just having this savior complex.
@60226 ай бұрын

There should be an approval process where KZbin grants an exception status for specific channels. Like in Deadmeats case. James always reviews horror movies with reverence and respect in the same way an art critic reviews fine art. There is a distinct difference between some channel showing gore just for the sake of it vs Deadmeat showing the gore as a loveletter to the genre itself. Anyone watching Deadmeat OBVIOUSLY knows what they are watching and would never think twice about seeing any particular ad on the video.
@marshalhammel50656 ай бұрын
I have said that KZbin should implement a content age rating system rather than it's current binary system. Channels like dead Meat should not be punished for targeting an older audience. Also, Implementing a framework that let's advertisers better target ads would be advertiser friendly.

I think the goat scene was interpreted incorrectly here, it seems more likely that shooting the goat caused them to be possessed or something causing her to kill her husband and herself, rather than her trying to "contain the demon's influence". It's likely shooting the goat just caused it to spread instantly. Also guessing she's possessed since it's kind of hard to axe yourself in the face multiple times lol.

Glad to watch this before the age restriction hits :D I'm a 17-year-old girl that can't watch all the horror stuff on KZbin because of age restriction, but this channel lets me watch commentary on horror I enjoy! so thank you to James, Chelsea, and the team :]

I always appreciate it when you do this. I know it gives you a huge hit on KZbin but you always stay true to the movies and I respect that. You're still one of my all time favorite channels.

This movie is so much like those "I started a new job or moved into a new place and there are strange rules" creepypasta. In particular the ones where the main character hears or reads the rules and immediately decides to ignore and break all of them. Then they are shocked when they are dying.

Not censoring the video for the sake of keeping true to the film despite KZbin’s guidelines is a massive reason why I always have and always will support Dead Meat. This isn’t just a channel that’s here to make money and entertain it’s a channel that’s incredibly passionate about their work and who have such a deep love for the horror genre, film making, and those like minded. I appreciate everyone that’s apart of the team who is responsible for keeping this company running, you all deserve so much credit and admiration for what you do and the standards you hold.

Beautiful movie. I like to think one theme not mentioned in this video is that the kids suffer the most damning consequences of the stupid adults making obvious mistakes. That then directly leads them to the evil because they're looking for any way out.

The Dead Meat Awards (and Royal Rumbles for that matter) deserve their own playlists over on Dead Meat Presents. As someone who shamefully found the channel late by way of Ice Nine Kills, I used the playlists religiously at first. I think the Awards are excellent and deserve a highly visible spot on the Presents channel for newbies.

That's not a shameful reason to start watching the Kill Count! I started listening to Ice Nine Kills.

James: This movie is BRUTAL! Me: Meh, how bad can it be? Vicky and Santino: Hold my apple juice.
@CarnalSpurn6 ай бұрын
I sent an email asking for this movie to be reviewed a couple weeks ago and I am absolutely THRILLED that Dead Meat did a video on it! Even more when I found out James decided to take the hit from KZbin and age-restricted it instead of censoring the gore. This was an absolutely phenomenal movie, and an equally phenomenal video. I'm really happy James did so much research into the film and included a bunch of these extras. I am 100% on his side for the Vicky death scene - I hadn't really paid attention to the dog sniffing Pedro's clothes, but just with the way the camera was shot behind the dog and the little kids hanging around it I just had the worst feeling something bad was gonna happen... If you haven't had a chance to watch the film please do, the worldbuilding is on POINT and the mind games the demons play on the protagonists is insane.
@LokiMartin-i6s4 ай бұрын
The world building in this is some of the best I've seen in years. Everything was well thought out and well thought together.
