One thing that really stood out to me: Wolverine and Deadpool have ACTUAL masks made of the same material as their outfits. I can’t remember when the last time we saw that in the MCU was, because everyone now has “nanotech” helmets/masks that just materialize on their faces. It was so nice to see them out their masks on.

I wonder how wolverine's mask works. He pulled it up from his hood so I thought it was fabric like wade's, but later he removed it like a helmet and it remained a helmet.

@@b_a_t_m_a_n_ yeah that was a little silly. But I just rolled with it. I didn’t mind because the actual physics on the masks rarely makes sense in the comics anyways. They’ll go from being fabric that can be crumpled up, to being hard like a helmet. I’m just glad he had his actual mask.

The way Vanessa's character is treated really bothers me. Like why did she and Deadpool have to be on the outs again? It's just rehashing what happened in the first movie again. And she doesn't get any focus at all other than being a motivation and storyline crutch. In my ideal Deadpool universe she would've gotten powers in the first movie and actually had some scenes in the second one. If they wanted relation ship issues they should've set it up and not have it occur off screen and in flashbacks...

I thought their relationship was actually really mature. They weren't bickering or arguing, and they were even kind of jovial in there flirting. Vanessa knew wade was going through it and didn't want to put anymore stress on him or her. She let him make his own decisions, and in the end, love prevailed. She even got her own boyfriend, that is a better example of a healthy adult relationship than most things seen on TV today

It’s implied by Wade using air quotes when talking about his “Talents” and then saying that Vanessa is tired of his shtick which is probably just him only doing mercenary work, killing randos or low level criminals, or nothing at all and he wanted to be something that made her proud and somebody that “matters” so it seems like she was just trying to pushing him to better himself
@UbinTimor
@UbinTimor 3 ай бұрын
@@Ebuggs12 Yea, but if you're trying to push someone to be better for your relationship you don't do that by leaving them and being distant with them. To me, at least, it felt like the movie was trying to imply that Wade felt like he needed to be better for Vanessa, that because he was so hyper fixated on being someone better he ignored their relationship- by that I mean nothing else seemed to matter to Wade besides finding what really made him feel like he mattered and as a result Vanessa felt like she didn't matter to him. I don't know, it's very hard to believe that Vanessa would leave Wade the way it seems like the movie wants the viewers to believe, that she left him because of his obsession with finding a meaning in his life so that she could be proud of him. She was EXTREAMLY supportive in the first Deadpool movie (it's one of the reasons why I like the first one more than the other 2), it just feels out of character for her to up and leave instead of buckling down and helping Wade through his issues- Vanessa was more than willing to stick by Wade when he thought he was going to die and was only upset with him because he left her out of fear that he was going to be a burden. It just doesn't feel right that she gives up on their relationship, especially when Wade literally travels back in time and saves her from dying, like I don't know, that feels like a real dick move to just abandon someone after they saved your life. And if they did talk it out it was through exposition- we don't really see them through the whole process to get both sides as to why the relationship wasn't going to work, all we know is Wade is still in love with Vanessa and Vanessa couldn't take being in a relationship with Wade anymore because of obsession with finding a purpose, it's all just kind of hand waved away.
@Ebuggs12
@Ebuggs12 3 ай бұрын
@@UbinTimor idk if it’s the obsession of finding purpose but more of “he has these amazing powers and gifts and he uses them for such small things or is just a mercenary that kills people when he could be saving people like the x-men in his universe but he blew that by killing the villains in DP 1 and 2 so he tries to be better and join the avengers but not for the right reasons which was for selfish reasons and not selfless reasons also you don’t have to stay with someone if they save your life 😭 she’s moving up in her job and he’s at the same place he was in the first dp movie and maybe even regressing due to him having more potential but still having the same profession from before his powers

@@Ebuggs12 I'm not saying she HAS to be with him because he saved her life, I'm saying that he loved her so much that he bent the fabric of space and time to prevent her from dying because of how much he loved her- and she knows that he did it, that HAS to mean something to her, but she leaves him anyway. I don't think anyone would question their relationship if their partner was willing to do something like that, I know I wouldn't, so breaking things off just because you feel that same someone is holding themselves back instead of working with them to figure things out seems pretty dickish to me especially if you're just going to get back together with that person later on anyway. This is the same woman who forgave him for running away because he didn't want her to watch him die, she thought he was dead that whole time but was willing to start again and she didn't even care that he was all fucked up from the experiments, but she can't work with Wade on his issues when she has been very supportive in the past? like I said before, it doesn't feel like that's Vanessa, that's not something DP 1 Vanessa would do, and because she's had so little development- basically she's been nothing but a plot device for the last 2 movies, it's hard to agree that leaving Wade was a good call especially when it seems like they get back together anyway only to probably break up again or for her to hardly be in the next movie.

I love how they basically worked in the fact Disney is trying as hard as possible to dissociate from Marvel film properties not produced in house by them, and actually made that a plot point in the story with the Void basically being the trash bin for all the non-MCU fluff, except they really hold Deadpool and Jackman Logan in unusually high regard because everyone does irl lol They took what could've been really cheap fanservice or even an attempt to mock all the discarded Marvel films of the mid-2000's and actually turned it into a fitting eulogy for the place they hold in Marvel's history. One thing that bothered me as well was how much the film kept trying to set up Deadpool to be some misfit underdog that failed to make it into the X Men, when half the plot of the first two films is literally Colossus desperately trying to get Wade to join the X Men because he thought he was qualified. It was Deadpool's own choice not to fully join because he felt like his schtick didn't vibe with the school and because he thought that being that brand of superhero was lame. So why is the story pretending that wasn't the case? It's just inconsistent characterization to force in a cookie cutter arc of the week for Deadpool.

I think the main reason why they only did one "other actor as Wolverine" cameo is that it was intended to be a joke/surprise, like "wow the joke is that it's another actor playing Wolverine instead of Hugh Jackman" not like "here's a montage where we are trying to put your fancasts into work". What I recall learning about Snipes’ onset antics on Blade Trinity was that he was really pissed that the studio was ending his franchise and pivoting to a spin off with these two young white actors ( Biel and Reynolds!). That sounds petty af, but also remember Blade was the only successful black superhero led film at the time and he REEEEEEEEALLY worked hard to make that a thing. I think before Blade he had even tried to get Black Panther made. So for his franchise to end and his final movie is written as stealth pilot for yet another superhero group of white lead actors.... insert Michael Jordan “and I took that personally” meme here. i’ve just now recalled all that from watching this video. I had forgotten about Blade Trinity (as should most of us), but the lead up to that phonecall to Snipes must’ve been interesting giving Reynolds’ previous experience. I think giving Snipes that line w/ the bazooka was just perfect because he kinda does own that role. He even brought the character back for a quick & HILARIOUS cameo at the end of the 1st season of What We Do In The Shadows. I‘d like to think he was more than willing to play character again on the big screen.

Indeed. The idea was that they were trying to erase Blade like they did Black Panther (even excluding Tchalla from X-Men 97) despite the success of the film - that was his frustration. This was during an era of cinema where producers would refuse to let the audience know that it was Marvel or DC related material due to the failure of the two industries at the time by hiding the logo 3-5 minutes into the intro credits... action films standing on their own name while subtly hiding the Marvel logo to ensure viewers are not put off. In Wesley Snipes' interviews he always made mention that they were "bringing in the new heroes" to replace what he helped make in an effort to downplay his presence with "excessive" comedy.

Deadpool and Wolverine is more focused on being a Meta Narrative about the 20 years of Fox Marvel movies than it is on being a good story and that.... is fine. I wouldn't recommend this movie to someone who doesn't watch hero movies or who thought the fox movies were bad from the jump, but(much like No Way Home) it is a fun time about and a fun cap to these specific versions of these characters. I have a deep love for the Fox universe just like I do with Rami's spider-movies. Its not Infinity War or Endgame and its not trying to be. Its Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman having the fucking time of their life reminiscing on this franchise that has been so entwined to their career. Also this movie had like... 5 writers which probably explains why its messy.

While the script definitely has problems, I think that lazy filmmaking is the biggest thing holding the movie back. There's so much potential for comedy in the filmmaking itself (Edgar Wright's style is a cliched but good reference point for what I mean), yet it's shot and edited in an extremely workmanlike fashion.

Plus a scene with all of them trying to kill nova one more time before she went inside the TVA room 4: would have been nice to see Wolverine slice people up with his claws.. why didn’t that happen in this movie? In the Happy Hogan scene, they show the date as being like March 2018 or 19 which I think is the day that Disney officially bought Fox, and they joke about how the “boss” (referring to Tony Stark) doesn’t do this anymore (cameos? No, interviews) which means this takes place before Infinity War so the Avengers are at more or less their typical status quo (minus a few on the run from the govt) and it’s implied that this is one of his stops during his multiversal/time travel trip with Cables device from the end of Deadpool 2.

A few things really bothered me. One: wolverine died in the future. If Deadpool breaks out of the TVA to go get wolverine why would he go to the future where he's already dead? Why go to another timeline at all? Why not just go to his timeline and grab present day wolverine? They already set up a team up at the end of Deadpool 2. Two: why did the TVA need Deadpool? They say they need him and then he leaves and they get the timeripper running without him. If they never got Deadpool, they would've been able to just prune the timeline. Three: they kept acting like Deadpool is a loser and the x-men didn't want him but Deadpool 2 ended with the x-men telling him the door is always open at the xavier institute. There's more, but it just blows my mind that a multi-million dollar movie is able to completely botch something as simple as making a story that makes sense.

Cavill-rine was such a dud as well. They did the big Marvel pause where they expected a reaction, and there was nothing. No laughs, no claps, nobody cared. Been to see it twice and both times, you can feel the awkward energy in the room as everyone waits for the movie to start back up. Actually, a few of the cameos were like this. I think the majority of people wouldnt have known who Elektra was, or got the Gambit jokes (or even understood why he was there). Full of cameos that start with the Marvel cameo pause, and pretty much none of them landed except Blade.

1:38 Absolutely not. A movie should not adhere to its genre so strictly to the point where given the chance to add something substantive, it shouldn't, because maybe you can get in one more quick easy laugh. If you can make something profound work in a comedy film, the film is all the better for it. As long as the tone is balanced well, substance is always appreciated ,at least in my opinion.

On the concept of "Anchor beings," it makes no sense in a world based on physics. . . buuuut, the MCU us now a world based on STORIES, it is entirely managed by a GOD OF STORIES. So now anchor beings make sense, because of the God of Stories gets bored of your universe, if all the stories in it have been told, why bother to continue it? Further, one could argue that Logan was NOT the anchor being of that world, Deadpool was, and maybe they just assumed otherwise. Deadpool was "dead" in the sense that he had become boring and pointless, but this adventure brought him "back to life," allowing his story to continue.

I just came from the movie and I can attest you are absolutely right, in the campfire scene the dialogue ends at "you never were that guy" and then in the flashback they add the "until you were" part and it totally stuck out to me so hearing someone else say it confirms how odd it was to leave it incomplete in the initial scene. If it was meant to be a reveal to hammer home the theme then the initial scene should've been shot in a way where it was clear she continued talking but we weren't sure what was said. Then the split works fine for me.

I have a couple counter points: 1. The fight vs Cassandra Nova’s goons made sense to me. The reason the fight didn’t end immediately is because Cassandra Nova was focused on converting Wolverine to join her. If Wolverine doesn’t show up till the end, we’d ask why she didn’t just kill everyone immediately 2. The Deadpool Core would not have just been like “Oops, they got past us. Let’s go home. They could’ve still blitzed Deadpool and Wolverine before they stopped Cassandra

13:30 That scene took place in March 2018 (there was a close up of a clock at the beginning), so before infinity war, so yes there was an Avengers team. But I agree it was a weird scene. Because yeah I don’t know why there would be interviews for that. And also I don’t get how he got there, because cable’s device is only supposed to travel in time. Also America Chavez is supposed to be the only one who can travel to other universes, so theoretically he would have only been able to go to branches if his own. And wouldn’t that have caused an incursion? lol idk

@JOVONO No, what Avengers books have you been reading? The Avengers aren't the Justice League where they're the cream of the crop of superheroes of that universe. They're on the same tier as the Fantastic Four and X-Men in terms of importance. The reason not everyone can be an X-Man is because you have to be a mutant (outside of odd cases like Juggernaut), and the Inhumans aren't a team, they're a subspecies of humanity like mutants.

An explanation at the end- paradox only wanted to destroy that universe. Cassandra was going to destroy every universe except the void. Still didn’t make total sense, but I guess she felt that she had been betrayed by the TVA and the only way she would be left alone in the void is if she destroyed every other universe.
@gamelairtim
@gamelairtim 3 ай бұрын
My main plot problem was that Paradox's plan made no sense. This was not so much the resolution of a plot as lucky things kind of coming together. Paradox was apparently ordered to recruit Deadpool, but then he deliberately ruins that by telling Deadpool that he won't be able to go home and his friends will be wiped out. No problem, because he prunes Deadpool, but then his plan to use the ripper falls apart because Cassandra shows up. Basically, no one had a plan. Paradox was going to use his unlicensed ripper which would have probably gotten him in trouble but maybe not. Cassandra could have just ruled the Void, but she decided with no plan to destroy a bunch of realities. Wade had no plan, just hoping they could somehow convince Cassandra not to kill them and instead send them to the TVA. Wolverine had no plan, he would have just killed Cassandra and been stuck in the Void. Fun movie, but it was "just a bunch of stuff that happened".
@rmsgrey
@rmsgrey 3 ай бұрын
A big part of the point of Paradox is that he was an idiot who thought he was a hero. He'd been given this makework assignment - spend a couple of hundred years watching a timeline slowly unravel - presumably to keep him away from anything important - but saw it as an opportunity to prove he knew better than everyone else. As for Cassandra, she would have stayed quite happily ruling the Void and ignoring the timelines, but Paradox attempted to have her assassinated, showing that she couldn't afford to ignore the rest of the multiverse. So, in order to secure her domain in the Void, she decided to wipe out the multiverse, leaving only the Void. She had a clear plan, which was explained in the movie, and which failed only because two heroes were willing to sacrifice themselves to prevent it.

A big part of the meta-commentary is that everything stupid paradox does is what Bob Igger tried to do. Bob went and bought fox and then tried to turn Deadpool 2 into something PG-13. It was Bob Chapek the other Bob who Greenlit this movie. Paradox is Bob Igger. The TVA is Disney. He’s not a “villain” Paradox is meta-commentary.
