Though I don't own an R5C, I did feel that most of the reasons you mentioned were why I didn't pick one up. I am really getting a lot of good use with the R5. Though the 30 minute time-limit had been a pain a few times for me on live shoots, until I picked up the Atomos Ninja V+. Thanks for the great video!

I agree. I also think he likes the r5 more on the daily than the r5c. And as I’m on a budget …the r5 seems like the better choice. I also do a lot of gimbal work so yea

How did the Atomos help with the 30 min time limit?

@shotbysterl5887 When you record with the Atomos, you don't have a 30 minute time limit.

Thank you for doing this video! I have the canon r5 for photography but I have used it for video work as well. I use blackmagic cameras mostly. I’m moving into the content creation/product showcasing world and need the auto focus since I’m a solo operator. I’ve been using the DJI Pocket 3 because of its flexibility with frame rates, 10 bit color and its size along with the wireless mic. It makes my job easy and all the work goes on socials in portrait mode. However, the DJI is so light that using it for product/detail shots is not as smooth as I would like. I haven’t had any complaints but I notice the little jitters. I’ve been doing some comparisons with my R5 and DJI RS2 in portrait mode vs the DJI Pocket 3 and the footage is WAAAAAY smoother on the R5/gimbal combo. It seems like I’m better off keeping my R5. If I need to do longer takes I have a blackmagic video assist which I’ve used for music videos. The only thing the R5c has that I want is - timecode port, more frame rate options and slightly better image. Thanks again ! Subbed

Wow, this is really insightful. Thank you so much. I’d love to hear more about your commercial work and how these cameras work for you in this. Things like: - would you ever use the R5 for a bigger production - (If so) how do you go with the 30min record limit on actual sets/bigger production shoots (which you mentioned at the end of the video). -What are the instances you would grab the R5C over the R5? (Or what scenarios do you intentionally grab the R5C first). - How have you found the corner wobbles with the IBIS on gimbals for the R5? -Have you ever had any need to rig these cameras internally to cars or for faster moving shots where the IBIS could cause more issues? -You talked previously about the ‘camera perception’ from clients (sometimes if it looks big you get the job!) how has that worked with these cameras? -Do you still use the Atomos V(V+) with these? And have you used ProRes/ProRes Raw much in productions? Thanks so much again, could listen to so much/many more of these!

I wish I had seen this video before buying the R5c while owning the R5. I convinced myself I needed it to become more serious about shooting video.

Re: 7:02 expense of wireless control. I own both an R5 and R5c and agree with you. I've heard it said that the R5C has two (tiny) motherboards inside - one from the R5 and the other from a different cinema camera (can't remember it is the C300 or C70). It uses one for video and the other for photomode. The video motherboard lacks a chip for wifi. I suspect the reason they did that was it was cheaper for them to build and sell the 5c that way, than to rewrite the video firmware to work on the r5 motherboard.

I own the R5C and after a year of ownership I gotta say, if I had to buy another one (and eventually will), it will be either another R5C or if I can afford, a higher end Cinema Camera from Canon. I hear it's not weather sealed. Yes it is. Don't worry about the fan slots. If stuff gets in there you just blow it out. It is as weather resistant as the R5. I was scarred at first but it survived the beach, a waterfall, snow and a desert. I record car videos primarily in an un-airconditioned garage in Florida. Never overheated, never down because of temp. No recording time limit, which are big one for me. Here is the problem with the R5C, there is a mis-understanding, in what people expect vs what they get. It is a video camera in a photo camera body. The menu is overwhelming for photographers. Videographers will feel right at home with that (if they used cinema cameras before). But it will do both video and photo really well. It does not have IBIS. I got used to have IS in the lens and IBIS looks horrible on video, regardless whether its Canon or Sony. In the end, if you want a camera that does amazing video and great photos, the R5C is the one for you. If you don't agree, maybe the R5mk2 will be your answer. My old 6Dmk2 was a photo camera that did okay video and it worked while it did. But you can always rig out your R5 or R6, get an Atomos Ninja and voila, endless recoding. In the end, you can't go wrong with either of these cameras.

Recently picked up a factory refurbished R5 from Canon with a standard 1-year warranty for $2199. Despite its age, seems like a very capable camera in 2024.

What I miss in the R5C is the missing animal AF, and I also miss an IBIS for handhold work with the 100-500mm RF. Because I like more 8K 60 RAW-LT for the fiew times I am filming (in a year) and because my PC Handel's 8K-RAW-LT 60fps in realtime, I like this files. The big Downside is that I always work with an external power bank, which makes the R5C heavy. With the workaround cable splitter, I can use the start stop in 8K-RAW-LT 60 on a gimbal, so this is no big problem for me except the weight of the Powerbank, which is ofcourse needed also in this case. A R5 MKII with 8K RAW-LT 60 working just with a single inbody Battery and this with a somehow good battery life, is what I expect from the new upcomming R5 MKII. I guess also a Cinema R5C MKII will alow 8k-60 with the internal battery and it will most likely have an integrated ND (as addon over the R5 MKII), but I'm afraid that the C-version will again have no Animal-AF, and for filming handhold birds, I want that and I want IBIS. Thank you for your comparison and I know that "soon" we will read if you like more the R5 MKII or the R5C MKII. Thank you always for sharing your experiences👍

omg wait the r5c does not have animal af? I was aiming for that one as i wanted to upgrade my dslr and animal af is the main reason i want to uhgrade as well as video D:
@iliaskapatos7 ай бұрын
@SpikeIsAZombie in the R5C, you have animal AF but only in the foto mode, not yet in the video OS. An R5 has it everywhere. Because the C400 got animal-AF, I have the feeling that this will find its way also in an R5C with one of the next firmware updates.

I have the R5 and isn't it also the case that the R5C isn't weather sealed? For video it seems like the C400 would make more sense if you can put together a little more money.

Great insights!!! Interesting!! I have R5 and do both photo and video commercially. Yes I use IPB light but in contrasty situations I find the DR lack and therefore start to think about R5C but listening to you, hmm… should get the R5C at all. So there is no IPB light equivalent in R5C? If you want to make an even more in depth between these two I would really like it.

I sold the C and kept the 5 because of battery life, ibis and size. Plus being able to hit the record button while taking photos. But If my R5 had the Cs quality and features it would be the perfect camera.

Hi, I have this eternal dilemma too! I have an r6ii and an r5c! I'm seriously thinking of selling it, because even though it has crazy image quality, it makes me slow as an elephant! It has many functions for those who make high level videos, but for wedding and commercial product videos it is tiring me! For a while I even thought about moving to Sony, due to the dissatisfaction that Canon brings me, but having a complete RF kit, I prefer to stay! At this point I ask you, does it make sense to sell the r5c and get a future r5ii while having the r6ii?

I would love an R5C but so expensive and closed lens system is a turn off. 8k60 would be amazing for 3d but the open gate 6k30 from the S5ii satisfies me.

R5C is better if you’re going to record sound directly to the camera. But I agree, on the gimbal, it is a disappointment. Frustrating, because it seems like Canon’s early promotional material assumed that people would use this as a gimbal camera.
@dingdong56014 ай бұрын
Doesn't the R5C use the same preamps as the R5? They're both unbalanced too.
@aaron.harrell4 ай бұрын
@@dingdong5601 The R5C has the cinema system’s sound options. For example, you can set two channel levels independently on the R5C, essentially creating a safety track in the device if you want to. You can also adjust the levels while recording on the R5C rather than having to stop recording and adjust them.

If you want to use R5c as ur A cam, and R5 as your B cam, to keep the look identical, which codec you use on R5c and which codec on R5 for 24 and 60p ?
