Good job! I was given a 2005 Grizzly last year from a buddy at church. Spent about $1400 on it including new tires and a winch. Has a 5-valve head; put in a 686 piston and cylinder--it's DANGEROUS now! Love it!

Yeah those Yamaha Grizzlies and the Kodiaks are some solid quads hands down. The first real quad that I rode when I was only 6 was a 2004 Kodiak 450. I grew up riding it on my parents land, and we did a lot of woods clearing for trails and campgrounds, so when you were riding it and brought the chainsaw out, that brought back a bunch of great memories for me. My Dad and I used to haul some massive branches with the Kodiak, that thing can pull way more than you'd imagine lol. We'd tye a chain around the tree and to the hitch on the quad. Was super fun. I'll never forget how much fun I had on that thing

That's the needle bearing knocking on the connecting rod is knocking. From that burnt motor oil. It sounds like A bad needle bearing to me Joe. I'd rebuild it anyways. Cause it will eventually go out on it. Maybe not right away though. The clutches do make noises on those to. That's A rod bearing knock grinding noise inside of that engine. I'd tear it down.,an replace it with A new one. A trick on that clutch needle to bearing pack it with marine grease lightly. Watch the difference in the sound.

Take some WD-40 "dry lube" and hit the primary and secondary clutches with the spray (cover off of course) while the engine is idling/quad is parked. Pretty good chance the noise completely goes away. That same exact noise is very common on Polaris RZR's with the belt drive set up. They need to be dry lubed every couple rides to keep that noise down.

Both of my Grizzlies didn't knock like yours. They tick but not that loud. Also, when you remove the foot rest, also remove the 4 or 6 bolts holding that foot rest assembly so your not fighting it when removing the clutch cover. They are great utility quads.

@@yeahright302 that's part of the problem here. it definitely sounds like a lower rod bearing going out. To not just pull the top end to check is a bad move but also a lot of people who don't know any better and go by what this dude says, thinks its fine are going to have a machine of their own blow up because of bad information. We are definitely in the age where being a back yard youtube mechanic pays more than being a factory certified technician who makes sure they are doing things correctly.

I have a 2009 and most of the noise comes from the heatschielding(bolds breaking). The only thing i hate on the maschine is the rearbrake. The cable from the footbreak fils with dirty water and than fails.

About time you picked up a machine that you didn't have to dig deep into it. Nice one! Last year I bought a $140 electric power washer off of Amazon for my 41 foot sailboat. Works great. Used it twice now. If I was doing something like what you do or working on cars a lot, I'd buy a gasoline powered one with high water flow volume, which is the key, to removing heavy debris, not just, high pressure, but water volume flow too. It would pay for itself in a couple dozen uses. And thanks for making theses videos, Joe. Happiness to you and your family.

Bought a ninja 250 earlier this year that had a horrible knock. Turns out the dealer who diagnosed it as a bad engine failed to put one of the spark plugs in and so it was running on one cylinder and wheezing out the other. Popped a new plug in and rode it for a couple months before selling it. Just can’t trust anyone.
