This video is a guide to work with emotions through various Contemplative CrossFit tools. How To deal with anger, fear, guilt, shame and jealousy. The source of all dissatisfaction. How reactions and triggers arise. What and where exactly are emotions? The importance of compassion, and understanding karma, causes and effects. Spiritual bypassing and how non-duality can suppress your feels. Shadow work, and the neuroscience of ‘letting go’. Very juicy stuff brah

aren't all of them neutral ? you just label them as "positive" because of concepts and beliefs? which is another form of desire that we have to let go and see reality as it is. I don't know

@@kughdommed4582 automatic habitual tendencies towards clinging/aversion makes sensations pleasant or unpleasant, this is unavoidable, but the more you let go in the moment the more the vedana tends towards neutral, and then disappears

@@kughdommed4582yeah, I hear what you’re saying. But this is where the bypass comes in. It is occurring and it isn’t. On some giant zoom out perspective, yeah - all just vibration. But this is also a detachment technique that can be used as cloak to avoid one’s own funk. It’s incredibly effective for a while. But eventually you’ll see there’s a fear driving this inability to address things on the “causal” plane - whatever you wanna call it. In short, you’re forced to either cycle between states of bliss with endless tiggers that don’t ever leave, or look at it objectively and begin the deconstruction process and live life.

Understanding this video along with my own personal experience basically cured my anxiety/depression within a day. Or should I say my anxiety towards feeling anxiety and depression towards feeling depressed. Once I allowed and opened up to feel the sensations fully, the resistance was gone and with that, negative emotions started to feel “good”, like a bitter coffee. It’s just another flavor of human experience. All my previous resistance and aversion towards negative emotions brought on hellish experiences. With this new found awareness I’m enjoying life instantly even in the midst of anxiety. And I’m sure it will only get better as the negative emotions dissipate. This wouldn’t have made sense to me whatsoever a week ago. But now I know. Thanks Frank, for being creative and so well spoken.

Maybe the people you call horrible actually remind you of something or trigger something in your own experience, it might be of value to you to look there when that happens. Judgement of others usually comes hand in hand with self judgement. I work a busy job and it doesn't interfere with my quote on quote spiritual path at all. No actually I think there are even more opportunities to see conditioning come up than you'd maybe have in a monastery. How deep the innocence goes in even conventionally speaking horrible behavior is astonishing.

20:41 , you were talking about the don't know mind there and I love it. Adyshanti once suggested a meditation that to every thought that arises I just reply "I don't know" and sitting with the sensations that arise. This way of engaging the relative felt hugely valuable to me and I still practice that way sometimes. The middle way, no certainty.

Frank, I'm experiencing every single word. Just in the last week. On the conventional level, I was telling myself that I'm full of shit. I'm not doing enough. On the ultimate level, I was telling myself it's OK. Never realizing what I was doing. Why is it so hard to remember?

Because it’s not about having to tell yourself anything. It’s about experiencing in such a way that it changes your orientation. For example, when someone feels very loved, they don’t see so many situations as a threat. They don’t have to remind themselves. It comes from knowing. But the knowing has to be uncovered.

Hi Frank, I watched this video several times to really understand it. I have a "real world" question on integrating this teaching into my daily life. So I went to the doctor today for my dad today. In the apptt and after, I had ideas for the care of my dad. My brother was in the apptt too. We have different beliefs about the care for my dad. When thinking about suggesting some ideas, I held back because I imagined that my brother would have not liked my suggestions. And if he didn't like my suggestions, we probably wouldn't use those ideas. So my thought is to avoid it because it will make me feel bad because I would imagine that my brother will be judging my ideas, and by default, judging me as kooky or not smart or whatever negative judgment he would likely have about it. So I didn't say anything. But then I think that I'm doing my dad a disservice by not making the suggestions. I heard you saying that there are neither others, nor not others. And yet here I am navigating the relative world. Should I make the suggestion and just feel the feelings that come up with a potential negative interaction with my brother? Or should I just not say anything? That option also feels bad because I feel like I am just giving up. Do I just give up all relative beliefs about health? I guess I just need to feel it all, whatever choices I make. I'm certainly feeling it right now. feels bad. And I need to accept that. thanks.

Bypassing is temporary in any case. Eventually everyone must go through. I knew a monk, he practiced core 'who am i' practice for 30 years with lots of hardcore no-sleep no-eat periods, etc. He said that the meditation stops/you get stuck and linger in 'limbo' until the issue is resolved that makes the 'stuck'. It is natural. You must deal with everything that arises - no choice here. While dealing with emotions and beliefs - the practice still happens, i.e. you are interested in 'who deals', 'who gets emotions', 'who is stuck', etc. These are not exclusive.

do you ever look at yourself in the mirror while practicing do nothing meditation? it's as if "i" "see" all my physical and emotional levels dissolve. the ego, mind, body, and physical illusions come forefront, background, and middle, until there aren't any levels (whilst being at every level)

I've tried to give the path my all as a last result to relief me from my suffering but failed. I would say I'm now in a way worse space, hyper conscious of the rapid cycles of my mind. I wish I could go back to my humanity. Luckily it's coming back a bit in waves but I'm kinda fucked up. Be careful with this stuff I would say. Building a healthy ego I think is a better way to go, at least at first before diving into this stuff when you're suffering a lot

Hey Frank question... When you say there's no ground of being or ultimate reality is that because there truly is no ground of being? Or is it just the fact that we have no way of knowing if there is an ultimate ground of being? Like is there some sort of substrate or substance that everything is made out of and we just don't know it? Or is the absolute reality just subjective and relative

It’s all just different ratios and intensity of heart expansion and waves of goosebumps all positive or what would be called positive but idk that I could categorize any of them as representing the ones understood by most ppl.. compassion is the only thing that can border what might be called sadness otherwise.. Any thought is no issue if not attached to an emotion And Any emotion is just no problem if not attached to a thought Both just process naturally like breathing if decoupled

You observe, upon sensory contact (1st dart) how your mind reacts to it (2nd dart) and then release the craving (a tension or contraction in the head of body) that arises from this reaction and then just relax. Watch how your attention is jumping and contracting from object to object both internally and externally and just let go of it before cascading into habitual tendencies. I go over this in detail in the do nothing meditation video m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/bHLZeXuflpuloLs&pp=ygUgRG8gbm90aGluZyBtZWRpdGF0aW9uIGZyYW5rIHlhbmc%3D

Yes, this is all very true, but saying such things and BEING such are two very, very different things. Surely you must mention the 5 precepts as the very basics of morality before you can come anywhere NEAR an experience of anatta. You cannot start with meditation and then move on to moral behavior. You need to implement the 5 precepts before you even BEGIN meditation or approaching the eightfold path. If your mind is a gooey, gummy mess of impulses, lusts, needs, wants, and desires, how can you possibly approach Dhamma? The distractions will drag you back to the starting point every time.
